Spicy Mussels and Old Brugge salad.
Deanna G.

We stumbled upon this gem after looking up best mussels in Brugge and having a rude welcoming at another restaurant. Everything happens for a reason! The ambiance was adorable and the food was delicious. We shared the plain salad, salad with old brugge (cheese), spicy mussels and Flemish stew. We loved it all. The spicy mussels were not that spicy at all but truly delicious, we were using shells to scoop out the broth to drink!!! And ordered bread to dunk! The Flemish stew tasted like a delicious onion soup with great portions of beef. Very filling and delicious. Salads were nice as we needed some greens after all the fries this trip. Highly recommend and worth noting that the waiter (likely part owner) was extremely friendly and accommodating. Felt like we were locals!!!

OMG OMG the best flemish stew you will ever have !!!! Incredible!! Everything is homemade, the fries, the bread and they only make food that goes according to the season. For ex they are not serving mussels now because the season is july till november. We had the stew and the balbainaire or something like that. Amazing. This restaurant deserves 6 stars !! The onwer serves and the wife cooks ! incredibly good !!

Traditional Flemish Stew

Well...I followed the yelp rating on this one and it sure was right! Like most others mentioned, the owners run this place right and know it! The husband read me the suggestions and highly recommended the Flemish stew, but I had already arrived knowing this was what I was after. When the plate arrived I was given the suggestion to put fries in the stew and let them soak. This was indeed the best way to eat them. The fries alone didn't really knock my socks off, but I wasn't bothered since the stew was so amazing! In such a small town like Bruges, this place stands off the beaten path and excels at providing an amazing traditional meal.

Loved this local food spot. Owner is host/server and wife is the chef. If you want some local food and friendly service, this is the spot.

Frites with mayo, plus the mustard sauce for my mussels.

My husband and I came here for a "local Belgian" experience that was away from the tourist crowds but only 15 minute walking distance from our hotel. The restaurant owner was so attentive to us. We walked through the entire menu and let us know what dishes were in season / speciality. I had never tried a mussel before and he was shocked. He went out of his way to cook me ONE MUSSEL so I could try it for the FIRST TIME! Wow, it did not disappoint either. They had a great beer list of delicious Belgian beers that you don't see everything. My husband is a beer geek and he was giddy at some of the selections. The restaurant owner also recommended beer pairings that weren't listed on the menu! The interior was gorgeous. Felt very romantic. I would go back for dinner tomorrow!!!

Waterzouie -awesome.

What a great find through Yelp. We love this pub-like restaurant. It is warm and cozy with great blues music. The proprietor is friendly and enthusiastic. There is a nice selection of beers and other beverages. And the food is awesome. We both ordered Waterzouie - chicken vegetable soup/stew from Ghent. It was a welcome dish on a cool evening after an off on on rainy day in Brugge. The portion is large and the favors are delicious. It is loaded with chicken and vegetables, spices and cilantro. They use whole coriander seeds which add incredible flavor. The service is friendly, the place is cozy and the food is delicious. Again, the music really adds to the environment. We will go back to try some of the other dishes that look so good.

Food is delicious. We had the shrimp curry pasta and beef stew. Host recommended a great beer pairing for the food (a blond for the curry and a strong dark beer for the stew). Only downside is that the service is a bit slow since the owner was the only person busing but he was very friendly.

Mussels and bouillabaisse - two of the best dishes we had in Bruges!

My boyfriend and I went to T Gezelleke for dinner. Great experience, would highly recommend - the waiter is very friendly, the atmosphere is warm and comfortable, with bricks, dried plants and a stove. The wine and garlic mussels I got were amazing and the fish bouillabaisse my boyfriend got is still a dish he talks about with delight. Even though it looks a little "out of the way", it's a less than 10min walk from the Markt and definitely worth it.

Flemish stew. Abt 12 beer recommended by owner.

Excellent food. Wonderful service. Best meal in Bruges. Get the flemish stew. Owner is happy to help and give recommendations. I highly recommend stopping here.

Flemish stew- don't hesitate! Just order it! So amazing!

Get the Flemish stew if you like yourself! Seriously, it was excellent and we've tried it at other places and it doesn't compare. Loved the decor and the atmosphere of this restaurant. Great spot for apps and drinks, a full meal, or just dessert. I know it is a little out of the way, but seriously either walk or take a cab! It is worth it! If we go back to Bruges, I'm eating here at least once. We are here twice on out visit to Bruges. The owners were helpful when we asked for recommendations and answered all out questions about the menu. I want to go back and we just left after our second meal here. Everything was superb!

In case you need to find it!

Who knew you could eat mussels raw! Amazing, friendly and outgoing owners... With food they are right to be proud of!

I'm a tourist and naturally, I gravitate towards touristy things, but there's always a part of me that wants to experience the true nature of the place I'm visiting. My husband and I happened to stumble upon this place--a true mom/pop restaurant. The gentleman who both serves and owns the restaurant is incredibly friendly and so attentive. It's such a different experience from other places where we've had to wait 20 so minutes only to leave because no one's checked on us. We didn't get to meet the cook, aka the owner's wife, but the food was so hearty and delicious, it was worth every penny we spent. The beers...I mean Belgian beers in general I'll swoon over, but the restaurant had some pretty good selection that it was hard to choose just one. Next time we visit Bruge, we shall return.

Found this restaurant on Yelp and couldn't have been happier!! Got there late on Monday night and even though they were close to closing, he accommodated us. Service was very friendly and efficient. The food was awesome!!! We had Flemish stew, bruschetta and a salad. All were great - the stew was delicious!! Only thing that could be better is if we'd found this place sooner. We will definitely come back here on our next trip.

We had the Flemish stew, mussels and fish soup. We've had more flavorable dishes elsewhere. The open patio had a nice ambiance.

The signature item was their Flemish stew, but I opted for the mussels as I heard people raving about them.

Great atmosphere!! Fun American light rock, good variety of drinks. The only turn off is the self…read moreservice but that's ok because the team is cool!

Long before I met Lauren, Leine and I traveled Europe, landing in Brugge in a small aircraft and…read moretwo overstuffed bags, out for blood. And eventually, out for beer at Bar des Amis. It's the kind of place you get drunk and look around and marvel at the inevitability of life's wonderment. That if you choose a path, it somehow finds you. And with Leine being blonde and gorgeous carrying around a tiny jar of moonshine infused custard for occasional dips of her pinky, I felt myself turning into an image I'd dreamed of since the age of nine, a traveling artist with a muse and the caked wavy hair once worn by Tristan Tzara, the dark sunken eyes of Man Ray, Leine posing at Bar des Amis as if in black and white with a bottle of Duval. She pours it slowly. Sips, leans in to kiss me and I can still hear the bubbles fizzle out on her lips. The bartender is tall and modelesque, and takes to Leine. He adds us on Facebook. I order three rounds of beer here and they're sweet; this moment is so rich, it's cloying. I can't help but think of what can go wrong. Yet the barstools feel stable beneath us. The Bar des Amis furniture is nothing special. The patrons, though, are. They are glad, not yelling at the TV during soccer like in the other pubs. The bartender gives us a free shot and smiles at my flirtatious girl. Her shoulders are exposed and she's receptive. Her energy is a powerful light beaming from the chest. She reminds me of me! He leans in to tell us that Brugge is thinking of creating a network of underground piping strictly for beer because the cobblestone alleyways are too narrow for the beer trucks. Leine laughs but I've turned cynical and profess that the town looks a bit like the town in Pinocchio. Like the buildings are set pieces and that our perfect little world might crumble. How much beer did I have here? Am I that unsure of her love? I'm being unfair, of course. Leine has done nothing to deserve my darkness. Her hand has been a fixture on my thigh. It's not until later, when we meet an Englishman here, who warns us of pickpockets in Rome, that our night unfolds into powder white oblivion.
