This wasn't our first choice tonight, but we were so happy with the way things turned out. The restaurant was busy, but they found a table for us for one hour until the next reservation showed up. We managed to eat and enjoy our meal in the time allotted.
I, of course, ordered the Stoverij (beef stew) again because I liked it so much the first time. My wife ordered the Ossetong met madeirasaus (ox tongue in Madeira sauce). Both dishes are Belgium classics.
Let me start by saying that the beef stew here was better than the first one. The sauce was not as sweet and more savoury which was more to my liking. Even the fries were crispier. But, sadly, the side salad was a let down. It was teeny tiny and had no dressing.
I might've liked the ox tongue that my wife ordered more than the Stoverij. It was a large bowl of hearty stew with mushroom served with a side of creamy mashed potatoes. The dish was loaded with large slices of tender ox tongue. And the sauce was soul (pun intended) delish. Perfect for a cold, rainy night.
The portions were quite generous. One main + extra side salad would've been enough for the two of us if our eyes weren't so greedy. The food was a little slow to come out of the kitchen (40 minutes). Otherwise service was pleasant, but understandably rushed. read more
