I wish they had better moo shu pancakes. The moo shu itself was decent but the pancakes were thick like tortillas.

Ordered take out (2 meals plus Crab Wontons). Sweet and sour chicken looked like plain chicken nuggets that had been microwaved (not cooked in any sauce). Soggy, tasteless and awful. Garlic scallops were rubbery and tasted old. Called the Manager and she said she would have to "talk to her Boss and would call back". Never called back. Horrible food, horrible Management. The pictures lie. This is a rundown strip mall Chinese buffet that sells brick-a-brack at the register too. They do not have wonton soup or any wontons on the buffet. I was hoping that maybe they were of good quality so not offered on the bar, but unfortunately my assumption was completely wrong. I ordered a cup of wonton soup. They brought it out in a to go order. ??! We were seated at the table. The wonton soup was awful. The broth was flavorless, like bin water and the dumpling itself had little to no filling and what was the filling was unrecognizable. The hot and sour had a serious layer or gummed film across it but the egg drop soup was edible. The honey chicken is popular so they keep refilling that dish. The string beans were coated in a sticky BLACK oil that wasn't quite soy sauce but wasn't horrible either. I think it was supposed to be oyster sauce. The Thai chicken was flavorful and had a good heat to the spice. They had the typical crab ragoon, egg rolls and stir fry dishes, but I only tried what I listed. They rest didn't look edible. They didn't clear plates or refill drinks, but the wait staff hung around, and watched like hawks, and loudly chatter and rough house with each other on the other side of the restaurant. They do have one kid that is dedicated to clearing tables but only after people leave, that was clear. I had to flag someone down and ask for more water and coke and to order a cup of soup. Don't be fooled by the offer of sushi on the buffet - it's old, dried out and all cooked. Nothing raw. The tempura coating hid the filling but thankfully the dried out stale tempura was hard as a rock and therefore saved me from whatever was lurking inside before it was too late. I probably should have not started with attempting sushi first and took a good look at the bar. That would have given a clue to not even try it. If you visit, stick to the menu, unless you have a stomach of steal and don't mind bad Chinese food. There is evidence enough that the food would be good if fresh. After a long first day at the nearby Great Wolf Lodge, our family was worn out and a bit undecided on what to do for dinner. The general consensus was split between Chinese food and sushi. We found this place did both and away we went! There is a very large Chinese buffet and I contemplated going with that for dinner. That is, until I saw one of the servers douse each tray on the buffet with hot water - an old buffet trick to keep things looking "lively" and not dried out. So, after that not so subtle maneuver, I went with the menu. I went with the honey chicken - don't ask me why as I hardly ever order a deep fried Chinese entree. But, it looked like a mostly Americanized Chinese restaurant and this was the best I could come up with. My father-in-law went with the sushi menu and went with gyoza to start and California roll. That came out quickly compared to the Chinese entrees that were ordered for our table which included pork lo mein and chicken chow mein. Each entree came with a choice of soup (egg drop or hot and sour) and crab rangoon or egg roll - each came straight from the buffet. You can try to run from the buffet, but you cannot hide! The hot and sour soup was OK, the crab rangoon had a hint of crab to it so there was that in Hunan's favor. My wife went with the egg roll and it was basically limp cabbage deep fried in the thickest wrapper I've ever seen. For the most part, our appetites were sated and we were refreshed for more waterpark fun. The price was right and we were in and out in pretty good time. This would not be a return trip when we get to Traverse City again. read more

Excellent food with great flavor! We really enjoy take-out from Hunan. Our favorites are General Tso's Chicken, Hunan Chicken and Shrimp Lo Mein Noodles. The food here is on par with some of the best Chinese restaurants in the Detroit area and the best (by far) that we have found in Traverse City. We like a lot of flavor and they do a nice job. Portions are good size and prices reasonable, too. Highly recommend! read more

Tasty General Tso's chicken with nice-sized portion. Eggroll was decent. Sauce was a touch heavy was still tasty. Standard American Chinese food menu with pretty much everything you would expect. You can barely get inside the door to get your food, as the rest of the place is closed off. Dark and creepy with no one there and the lights off. read more

They'd been working at camp and needed ethnic food in a bad way (that and to visit civilization). We all had the buffet. Onto the food, dishes I tried as follows: Green beans, looked ick but tasted good. Sesame chicken- yum. Teriyaki chicken- too tough fried donut- a win crabmeat and cream cheese wontons w/ sweet & sour sauce, that's a hell yeah. salad- ah, uninspiring iceberg but suitable given the environment. Some sort of shrimp dish- not bad. Curry dish w/ chicken- highly recommend. Fried rice & reg. rice were good. Didn't try any noodles this trip. Bring your appetite, a pretty good deal at about 12.45 p/p with non-alcoholic beverage of some kind (soda, lemonade etc). Please note: I know people who are deathly afraid of buffet & others who swear by it. I think this one was probably about average, but generally I am more pro-made to order chinese. I went here with a good friend, while I had a sore throat, and I just wanted some soup. And soup did I get! The hot and sour soup is delicious, has lots of big chunks of tofu, a great flavor, and just enough kick. I also had a mexican roll from their sushi menu, it was fresh and flavorful with a spice that sneaks up from behind and tickles your throat. And an order of my staple food at any asian place, Edamame. The Edamame was just ok, it was overcooked, so the pods were smooshy and not firm, they weren't salted, but whatever. Two outta three ain't bad. The tea was hot and plentiful, and my dining companion had the buffet, and smuggled me back a piece of bacon wrapped pineapple on a stick, which was incredible, even though he had dredged it in satay sauce. We ordered food to go. It was really good! Chinese food is always hit or miss but this one was definitely a hit. We ordered almond chicken, sweet and sour chicken, pepper steak, chicken fried rice and sushi. Everything was above and beyond what we expected. I'm tempted to give them less stars due to poor service but the food was decent. If nothing else, very large portions. I highly recommend sharing an order with someone if you get supper carry out. The young Asian gal who took our order was borderline rude and impatient. Even though the menu clearly stated that smaller portions of each item were available, we were told that you could only do that at lunch time. So we ended up with more food (and expense) than we wanted. The almond chicken was much different than we've had elsewhere but the fried and battered chicken "strips" in the meal worked. I'll be honest. I am a sucker for Chinese Buffet. Especially when it is actually good. This place did not disappoint. The Ragoons were really good. The chicken on a stick was great, and really everything I had was pretty tasty. I went there and ate at this place because I didn't have a lot of time to go to a restaurant, and order something and wait for it. I had about 15 minutes, and I went in and rocked this place. I had 2 plates stuffed pretty full of a wide assortment of items, and it was all great. When in the area, and crunched for time, I will be back at this restaurant! read more

I want to say their food is always excellent when we are in the mood for Chinese. Today they went above and beyond with their customer service. I ordered the house special and when I got home I saw it had broccoli in it. I'm allergic to it so I called them up explained the situation to them. Disappointing. Arrived for lunch right at the lunch hour. Consistent traffic yet should have in no way been overwhelming. Impersonal staff. Buffet was ok. Nothing was hot. More room temperature. Crab Rangoon was good. Cashew chicken flavorless. Bourbon chicken...don't. Lots over cooked. The sushi tasted like it came out of a box. Extremely dirty and smelly bathroom. Went there 06/01/19. Food was so bad I got sick from it. I should have known from just looking at it but, I was hungry and figured it wouldn't be that bad. I was wrong. This Chinese buffet is the best I know of currently in TC, but by a slim margin. (Chinafair nearby is a very close second). #1 Atmosphere if you enjoy quiet dinner conversation without a lot of commotion going on. They play soft calming Chinese music all the time. Staff is very friendly and have often just recently come from China, few speak fluent English, which for me adds to the charm having been to small by-the-way restaurants in mainland China. The real treat at this location is the Sushi. Reasonably priced, it slides nicely into the 2nd best sushi in TC position, in my book. The meats are always very fresh. The selection is adequate. The rice is perfect. Flavors are wonderful. I recommend the B-53 and the Mexican Roll for a little spice. Lobster roll for some rich flavor. California roll for eating light. Minor issues I have with this location: 1. Consistency. Sometimes the rolls are so big they are hard to eat. Sometimes they are small. Sometimes the spicy rolls are tame, sometimes they will scorch your tongue. Sometimes they remember who ordered what, sometimes they plop all your rolls in the center of the table for a free for all. 2. Furniture. I don't recommend sitting in a booth. They are long passed being worn out and need replacing. But don't let those things deter you. They serve great food and work hard to create a fair priced dining experience. read more

Terrific takeout. I'm not enamoured of the restaurant's ambience; apparently neither are most people, since almost nobody ever seems to be eating there. Like most of the Chinese food places in town, this place relies on its takeout business - and rightly so. My son loves the General Tso's Chicken; I'm partial to the beef with broccoli. A chinese buffet that is clean, isn't entirely full of breaded and fried food (actually a nice variety of chinese food), and includes some sushi that is fresh. It's not a sushi restaurant, so don't expect Red Ginger, but I think Hunan does a nice job. Don't confuse Hunan with the two other Chinese restaurants nearby, which I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. Has a loyal following of "regulars" who live here. That says a lot. read more

We had to go support a friend one evening and our 14 year old daughter and her friends were coming home after we left....so we left her a $50 bill and instructions to order dinner for themselves. We thought they'd get pizza but my daughter likes TC Hunan so they decided to order that, delivered. She called and placed her order for delivery and they said "ok bye" and hung up. They never asked for the address? She called us and said "what do I do?", we said "call them back and make sure they understand that it's delivery and not takeout and make sure they have the address". She called back twice and each time she starts to talk, they hang up on her both times. She finally calls back again and this time they get the address from her. Well, they deliver the food and she hands him the $50 (because it's all she has...) she waits for change and he hands her back $8 and rudely says....'"what about my tip?" She's kind of confused at this point, this is her first time handling getting food delivered....he never really gave her a total but all they got was 2 orders of sesame chicken combos?? so she's flustered and he's pressuring her for a tip, so she hands him $5 and closes the door. He took advantage of a kid....because she was a kid! No way in the world did 2 orders of sesame chicken combos delivered cost $42.....no way.....and then he forces her to give him even more money?!?!? My husband called and pointed out to the "manager" that their driver took more money that was needed and that they would not be receiving any more of our business in the future, but they had no response. If they had any business sense at all they have our number, they have our address, they would just find a way to give the money back they flat out stole....but no...nothing. read more

Best chinese buffet in town. Always a variety of chicken, whether sesame, honey or peppered. Also the crab rangoon are really good and they make them by hand-you often see them doing it. It's set back from the street and the address on the map is incorrect, it's just behind taco bell near south airport road and barlow. I'm not a huge soup fan, but others like the egg-drop. read more

Hunan Traverse City is the best ! Hands down the best around! The Shrimp Fried Rice is the best! Awesome Kung Pau Chicken. Very reasonable price! They only thing is that they do not deliver unless you order $45.00 , Which is not to bad if you have about 5 to 10 people ! I highly recommend Hunan in Traverse City! read more
