Best lo mein ever! Me and my friends had lo mein from Chang Express three years ago when we were visiting Elk Rapids. It was so good we talk about it often. Finally, three years later I was back in town and got the lo mein. It was exactly how I remembered! read more

Food was really good, I enjoyed the chow mien, and the Korean chicken a lot. service was the best also, they are really friendly. Not from this area but if I come back this will be my go to. read more

My husband and I ducked in for a late lunch and were not disappointed! Nice server and quick service. Our food was delicious.

Horrible, just horrible. Vegetables overcooked and soggy, rice undercooked, and crunchy. General Tso chicken was the worst I've ever had. All dishes, watery and over salted. Very expensive for this type of takeout . Disgusting. Don't even think about it.. read more

Food was ... meh ... And prices were higher than other Asian restaurants we go to, with better food .

The family ate here once and found our menu choices lacking flavors. Nothing special and reluctant to go back.

Just sub par... food was blah...nothing to really enjoy... building was blah... clientele and environment was just kinda "Walmart"...

Love Changs. Even though it is the only place to get Chinese food close to Elk Rapids, it is my favorite place. I always either get the Chow Mein with white rice and brown sauce or the Sesame Chicken with white rice and am never disappointed. read more

The man who served us was very nice. However, we ordered sesame chicken and fried rice and they did not meet expectations. The chicken was soggy and the rice was dry and not well seasoned. This could have been a bad batch of food, but it was disappointing to pay and not get quality food. read more

Possibly the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. I ordered Kung Pao chicken and it had no flavor, no fresh vegetables (looked and tasted like they were out of a can) and the restaurant is dirty and falling apart. See photo ... i have no clue why anyone would give this restaurant more than one star. I would like to give it 1/2star. And it cost 12 dollars!!! A total rip off. This place needs to be shut down and is an embarrassment to Elk Rapids. read more

Chang Express - This was a brown flavorless mess. - Thai Near Me - Elk Rapids, Michigan

This has to be the worst tasting and the most expensive Chinese takeout ever! General Tso most disappointing, steamed noodles all stuck together and came out square in the shape of the box. Egg foo young $21 for 3 little pancakes with the worst gravy. read more

Our favorite classic take away Chinese restaurant in Sarasota. Family goto order is Crab Rangoon, Orange Chicken, General Tso Chicken and Pork Noodles. read more

Really love their food. I would eat it every day if I could. The Thai and Chinese are both always great. The mom and dad are so friendly!

Food is pretty good, service is good, prices are pretty high but I would go back bc it is the only Chinese food available in town.

Best Chinese take out I've have. Very fresh and very tasty. Wish I did t live 3 hours away

Very good Chinese restaurant located in Elk Rapids. Food is hot fresh and tastes great. Maybe a touch expensive compared to other places but not having to travel to get high quality Asian food is worth it. read more

I got take out from this joint when it first opened. I liked it. I went into today, since I'm moving back into ER. I liked it. I think I would like their Chinese stuff better than their Thai, but I'll see the next time I go in, because trust me, even with the 3-star, I'll be in again for sure. I think my biggest problem with the place is that they have a whopping four tables, and no real servers. It's just sort of the guy behind the counter comes out and asks you what you want (from the take out menu) and then comes back with it a few minutes later and walks away. Also, they do not have fountain pop. A definitely no-no for my boyfriend. Also also, they delivered my boyfriend's food before mine, which seemed both odd and rude. But overall, they were pretty good, and I'll be in again. read more

Excellent Thai food! Excited to have found genuinely prepared Thai in 'Up North' Michigan Elk Rapids. After ordering a handful of times, I had to write a review since it seems to keep getting better. (You know it's good when your born and raised in Bangkok father loves it!!) Not only is the food full of flavor, fresh ingredients and good presentation, the family who owns and operates the restaurant is full of hospitality and courtesy - Always treating us as if we are family friends and bringing the food out to us. It's almost like a small hidden gem in the quaint downtown of Elk Rapids. It's great for take-out and also has a few outdoor tables that is really nice for a summer stop... We've never had anything we did not like, but here are some favorite dishes definitely worth ordering: Pad Thai entrée with tofu, Fried Rice entrée with chicken, spiced medium (#7) - so good!! Pad See U with chicken, and Gang Curry with chicken. read more

I came here with a large group of 8 friends and placed a large carry out order.. I went for some General Tso's and was very happy with what I ordered. I found the dish to actually be pretty sweet. They turned all of our orders around quickly and we walked down to the park to eat it. The room inside the restaurant is small, but there are plenty of places outside to eat if you don't mind a short walk. read more

Great family and food! For small town N Michigan, Thai is wonderful. Has been improving since they first opened.

Pad Thai is amazing! My favorite order 6 years plus! Other favorites: dumplings, egg rolls, hot/sour soup. Really great family run restaurant! read more

Really enjoy their take out food! We eat there a lot. Very friendly. I especially like their sweet and sour chicken

Excellent Moo Goo Gai Pan, worth the dinner prices - a "hidden gem", good place to escape the tourist rush. Friendly and attentive service, without being overbearing. 5/5 read more

Chang Express - a plate of food with rice and vegetables - Thai Near Me - Elk Rapids, Michigan

The owners are awesome, it was my first time there but it felt like going to see some old friends. The food was the best part of it all, good portions, good prices, and it all tasted really fresh. You can choose how spicy you want it on a scale of 1-10 and they have a gluten free menu. Would definitely recommend to anyone. read more

The meal that my mother and I had here this past weekend was tasty. We were biking around the downtown area and were considering what to have. We went with one of the Chinese selections. We shared the general's chicken, about 3 in spiciness, in a 1-10 rating. It was still pretty spicy. We also got white rice and one crab meat cream cheese wonton. The meal was just the right size for sharing, or for extras for later if you were to get takeaway. Pretty reasonable, price-wise and nice service. read more

I ordered a Pad Thai, that by my experience with Thai Restaurants, I can tell it was definitely not proper executed. As I miss the taste so much, I still enjoy the peanut flavor. My husband ordered the two style chicken and he didn't like his meal. read more

We enjoyed a very nice visit to Chang Express. it was during the Paddle Antrim Festival. There were many people milling about town. We went in and were greeted right away. The young man that was our server was very friendly and helpful in explaining the different types of food and spice levels. He made some suggestions which we appreciated. We ordered crazy noodle (heat level 3), and egg rolls for an appetizer. Everything was delicious and hot. He checked on us many times to make sure everything was ok. Will definitely go back. If you are looking for good food and friendly service, then this is your place. read more

Just had a dinner and egg rolls. Both were very good. There are a few tables inside to eat at, and I would recommend that. Our dinner got a little soggy on the ride home. But, soggy as it was, it was de-leesh! read more

As I sit here with a full belly....I am glad we stopped in! It may be a small place......but that's OK. Friendly staff.....the adorable pre-teen girl 'helping' was such a joy to talk to! The food......NOTHING bad to say. We ordered Korean Beef.....has a light, sweet flavor....no need for soy sauce. Szechuan Beef had just the right amount of kick. Egg rolls and Crab Rangoon.......very tasty. Dinner for 4 people....$35. Deal in my book. This will the place to be each time we are in the area! read more

Pros: I've lived all over and when I moved to tiny Elk Rapids I didn't expect much from the local cuisine. I was pleasantly shocked when this turned out to be the best Chinese food I've ever had. Great egg rolls, great chicken chow mein, great vegetable lo mein. Cons: a bit pricier than I expect my Chinese food to be. Also, I have had the chicken chow mein several times and had a very salty experience with the white sauce once. read more

I got carry out here last weekend. The vegetable egg foo young is fantastic. I feel that the prices are a little bit high but overall a very tasty meal. It is wonderful that the restaurant is so close to the beach that you can walk down to a picnic table and eat by the lake. read more

Very friendly service. If it isn't busy they will come out and sit and chat with you while the food is cooking. Family run business, The food is good, If you like spicy the Crazy noodles or Gang Curry are very good. The Pad Ped is also very good and can be made rather mild if you're not into spicy. There isn't a lot of seating but in the summer there are a few tables outside as well. read more

Great Chinese food. Actually will spice it up as hot as you want. The owner is super friendly and they always greet us. Prices are bit higher (but not terrible) and no buffet (thank you). Pretty quick service. read more

Our family has been to Chang's many times and will be back many more times. The food is well and carefully prepared, attractively presented, and delicious. And -- something you don't often find -- the owner will gladly let you design your own entree. We've done it twice and may have invented a new dish for their menu. Hope so and hope others will like it. read more
