Delightful spot in downtown Traverse City. If you enjoy Asian food definitely visit. Make a reservation! Their menu boasts so many starters - small plates that you could share several of those if you wanted for your meal. I added a photo of what I ordered. I also sampled the Dragon Wings and they were tasty- not typical of what you'd expect. My boyfriend had a specialty sushi roll and was smitten with it. We had top notch service and the atmosphere fits well with the theme.

Red ginger is located in the center of TC. From the reviews on Yelp, I had to come and try it out. I brought my coworker with me and we got a seat next to the bar in front of the windows as the tables were full. Honestly menu looks delicious. I got the Thai curry that has the shrimp and chicken, my coworker ordered the buns and said they were delicious. My food was very tasty as well but the rice was not fully cooked yet :( Other than that, the food was good, I'm guessing it might be because it was so packed in there and they tried to serve too quick. I would give them a second try though! Also, one thing to note, it is pretty loud there. So depending on what ambiance you are looking for your dinner time in downtown TC, you might want to consider that. But I do recommend it if you want a nice meal there :)

Great Asian fusion restaurant. Selection of bourbons was good. Sat at the bar, and it was very loud - to the point it was difficult to hold a conversation. The sushi was excellent although on the pricey side. Highly recommend, except for the noise level.

This was a spectacular experience! If you follow my reviews, you know that I'm all about the full experience. We got it here! We were fortunately greeted and seated immediately. The ambiance is beautiful with soft romantic lighting. The service was amazing. They new we were there for a special occasion so they pulled out all the stops. The food... I don't even know how to deacribe the food that would do it justice. I started with a sake flight. We then chose two types of sushi. The sushi was INCREDIBLE!! The waitress recommended the sea Bass as the main dish and we decided to split it. I was quite full by the time we finished the sushi but had to try the entre. It was absolutely delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. If you want an amazing night out, I highly recommend checking this place out!!

This is my favorite in TC...bar none! From the manager's welcoming attitude thru dinner and dessert, it's all top notch. Our sushi was delish. My dessert was so fabulous I almost ate the candle! Can't remember now what it was, but I think a lemon mouse cake. They book up far out during tourist season, but you can eat in the bar area and they take some walk-ins.

Upscale is the best word. Tune in to the dress code before venturing over there. This is clearly $$$ dining. The cost to value ratio is balanced, if you enjoy top notch Asian cuisine. The atmosphere is most inviting, not too fancy, yet worthy. If you are in the know on this fare, order the Miso Cod. Excellent! All of the dishes I tried were fabulous. More than just dining, the entire experience was wonderful. From their incredible staff to the wide range of traditional offerings tailored with a modern flare. The chefs must be World class! 03/24

Red Ginger is located in the heart of downtown Traverse City right on Front Street and right next to the State Theater - you can't ask for a more central location than this! During the summer, the locals have told me that it is nearly impossible to get seating here without an impossibly long wait given that this is basically one of the only sushi offerings in the city and so centrally located that everyone flocks to here. We came in the winter (early February) and it was still busy even on a weekday at 7 pm! So busy that there was only bar seating available remaining, but the fact that we were seated right away was such a luxury my local friends to here had never experienced and they were delighted by it. So we sat at their "bar," which refers to the entire front of the restaurant. The bar area is actually quite large, we weren't at the bar counter, but actually a high top table next to it. There is both bar seating and kitchen counter seating where you can watch them making sushi, as well as a ton of high top and regular top tables throughout the front of the restaurant that make up the "bar area". The back 2/3rds of the restaurant is booths and other tables that are the main area of the restaurant, but the bar area serves the full menu, so it was perfect for us! The menu is definitely a ton of Asian fusion, which is a little off-putting for me, as an Asian haha, but ultimately the sushi rolls were surprisingly decent and this is definitely somewhere I'd recommend in the area for a more upscale kind of meal and if you're in the mood for sushi. They do combinations that I've never experienced before (that's where the fusion comes in), so just note that what you're getting here will not be authentic (plus it's white-owned and operated), but for what it is, it's good. I got two rolls and was more than full on them. The first was the Chef Dan's Signature roll, which was butter poached shrimp, asparagus, truffled bacon aioli, soy paper, and garlic chips, and it ran $18. I can tell you I honestly didn't really taste the truffled bacon aioli, but everything else was good on it. I also got the lobster tempura roll, which ran $20. I obviously know that the items I ordered are more pricey because of the type of seafood I ordered as well, so this is definitely at the high end of their rolls pricing. They give you a good amount of filling to sushi rice ratio, so I didn't feel like it was highway robbery by any means to charge that much. Last thing of note is that I can tell they are trying to curate an air of classiness and sophistication within their restaurant. They even have a dress code on their website and embossed into the window next to their door to dress in "elegant/business casual" attire, which is definitely super peculiar. You can come in wearing your beach attire or just casual clothes (the way that my friends and I walked in), but then that just means you can't sit in the "restaurant" area, only at the bar & lounge LOL so...make of that what you will.

Get an order of charred shishito peppers for the table. The smoky sake glaze makes them irresistible! The green Thai curry with chicken and shrimp is the bomb! The presentation of this dish is beautiful, but I won't spoil it for you. Now I know why this place was jammed on a Tuesday night!

Everyone was hyping up this place and I had such high expectations. The place is dated and not hugely devoted to Asian or Japanese decor. It looks old and just plain atmosphere. The food we decided to try 3 apps. The bao buns we had to send back they were fried not steamed, incredibly dry and hard, and no flavor. The potstickers were decent but just streamed not a huge crust. And the spring rolls were just fine- nothing special heavily fried. We honestly sent back the bao buns bc they were horrific and ended up with the lettuce wraps, they were extremely salty but better than any of the 3. Idk what the hype is the waitresses were all standing around laughing and talking to the managers. Randy was great server with great service. This doesn't deserve the hype I thought it was going to be. I just took a picture of the hard side of the potsticker and the other part was under cooked.

This place was wonderful! We were gifted a gift card to use for this place and really didn't know what to expect. Everything was great. We arrived a little early for our reservation and we were able to be seated. Honestly that set things in motion. The wait staff was friendly and personable. Enjoyed a nice bottle of wine, appetizer of calamari, and settled on some delicious sushi rolls for dinner. The whole ambiance and experience was great!

    Beef Tenderloin Penang

Didn't mess around with the order. Straight to the entree with Beef Tenderloin Penang - 9 out of 10. Dessert coconut rice pudding with rum mango sauce, 8 out of 10. Terry - great server - great recommendations - pleasant and fun. 10/10. Views of the Bay/Lake Michigan from most of the dining room otherwise a trendy and energetic Bar. Get in when you can, great spot!

We went to this restaurant only because everything else was closing soon. The ambiance of the restaurant was pretty cool. Fresh flowers situated around the restaurant. The service was ok. Took a while for everything. The food was just ok as well. They were all out spicy tuna so many of the rolls we wanted were not available. We had the lobster dynamite and another roll that we randomly tried since there was no tuna available.

Prices are a few dollars higher in the restaurant than they have displayed on their online menu. Service is amazing, they take great care of you. We had a reservation for our anniversary and they had a card ready for us when we got there that their entire staff signed - so cute! Even gave us a free dessert. My favorite thing was the ribs! Sweet potato tempura was incredible too and was my first time having sushi with sweet potato. The Beef Ishiyaki concept is very fun but small! Still think it's very pricey, but will go back!

Miso soup and an appetizer feature Crab Rangoon. Delicious!!

The excellent service and care that Scout and Pavel presented was far superior to any restaurant or business I've been to in years. I love the style of the restaurant. It's very well kept, very chic yet staying with the Japanese theme, which could very well be considered high-end. Their prices do not reflect what I would expect from a restaurant of this status. I ordered a noodle soup that did not appeal to me at all. I realized that I had made an error. I have Normally ordered sushi and tempura at Japanese restaurants but for dinner this evening, I decided to vary from that and try a noodle soup. It was too strong for me as far as fish flavor and I could not interest my appetite. I didn't ask the waitress to trade it out, but she was kind enough to request that the manager grant a substitution. That was awarded and I ordered Katsu. There are not many restaurants where the employees would even notice a problem or care to reach a solution but I found this such a cherished act and without a doubt deserving of high reward. I would like to suggest that perhaps a ginger sesame dressing could possibly be more tantalizing on the cabbage slaw. The dressing reminded me of a little bit of French and a little bit of plain mayo, The Katsu sauce was just a bit overwhelming with molasses taste. Unless this is how it should be, I think that the sauce that you put on the 'perfectly prepared botan rice' might be better with the Katsu. I believe this sauce was a restaurant made teriyaki and presented well with the rice. Other than that, the presentation as well as the food preparation reaches a 'high 5" without hesitation. I sincerely wish more restaurants, including businesses, had staff this attentive. It's not something that you can hire. It is a virtue of personality and it's rarely seen anymore. lastly, I must mention the edamame's. I have ordered them in every Japanese restaurant I've been to. My sister ordered a side also. They were eight dollars each, but we could've easily split the dish. I have definitely paid as much for very small servings of the edamame. I feel like I had that for dinner and I was really getting full. They gave adequate servings on everything. I don't think anyone would walk away hungry with any fault of the restaurant. Thank you as we really enjoyed our visit and our dinner and I'm sure we'll be back again.
