I would not hesitate to call Tom when needed again! Delays were encountered when a Special Order Velux needed to be obtained and installed, but his level of workmanship was worth it! Very hard to find a knowledgeable, professional and most importantly honest contractor - Tom personifies all these qualities. My home has a skylight which we needed to have inspected for potential repair. Of the variety of contractors I reached out to for my skylight inspection, Tom was fantastic. He kept in communication, scheduled / showed up on time, thoroughly inspected the interior / exterior and gave a comprehensive assessment of what needs to be done. He took the time to actual share the basis for his assessment and what potentially needs to be done ( along with what potential windows could be better served for my home & why ). He explained the roofing angles and what type of setup is best for particular roofs. Tom & his crew replaced an outdated, incorrect sky light on our roof. Upon calling Tom for initial estimate, he was here in less than 2 hours to evaluate. Tom had great ideas on how to repair / replace. We immediately hired him & he placed an order immediately for a custom size sky light. He followed up later that week to give an update for the status of order & was here the next week to install. Beautiful work. Clean. Efficient. Installation of the skylights by Tom Barkocy was excellent and I originally provided an excellent review. However, Tom failed to complete the trim and hasn't responded to multiple attempts to reach him by phone, email, Facebook Messenger and a fax. Last October he sent me a note promising to get back to me that day. He didn't. I didn't push for awhile, thinking it might be Covid related, but this is ridiculously poor service. Also, the solar powered skylight he installed in our bathroom hasn't worked for more than a year - making the solar installation a waste of money. read more

I hired Tom to do some work on my home in Avenel NJ. Firstly, he has the worst communication skill in the entire world. It literally took days to get return calls. Meanwhile, he is very available for collecting his money. The work was lackluster at best. I now discovered that he never pulled permits for any of the work and now that i need to spend thousands to get this corrected with the city. This guy is a nightmare. read more

tom has done work for me in the past and it has always been done on a timely basis. I contacted him to put nine windows into my home and I started paying him upfront with the understanding that he was busy, but he would get the work done. At this point I have paid him $4,000 and tom has only put two windows into my home. He had stated the approximate cost would be $450 per window. Through countless phone calls, emails, texts, I have tried to reach either tom or someone in his office with no response. I still hope to hear from him, but I might have to consider legal action. DO NOT HIRE !!! In February 2019 I gave Barkocy Brothers, Inc a $16,000 check to buy materials for our skylight replacement project. The estimated total project price was just under $32,000. Here we are 6 months later (August 2019) and I still can't get a start date for the project. At first he was very responsive, but red flags (limited response to inquiries, telling me that he would stop by the project site then not showing up) started to pop up and now I am in the process of filing complaints with the BBB, NJ Consumer Affairs, etc. If they are so busy that they have to put me on the back burner then I am happy for their success, but 6 months is long enough. I hired Tom on 10/30 to replace a leaking skylight window and repair water damaged sheetrock. While I kept following up with him for a start date, he told me 3 different times he was putting together his schedule over that particular weekend. His jobs were running behind due to the rain. Yes I get it because I had water pouring through my ceiling quite frequently. I would still never hear back from him without my following up. After my asking him point blank if he were just too busy so I could find someone else, I finally got a he was going "to help me out with it" as if it were going to be a free favor. During our last contact he asked me for days that were good for me in which there were 3 during this week, tomorrow not being one of them, so he's completely blown me off, nor would he reply to a text message in between. Extremely unprofessional and rude. I'm a chimney guy and I am writing this review based solely on seeing their work. Being that I'm on roofs all day long I don't necessarily have a super well trained eye but I can see very obvious differences between a good roofer and a bad one. The roof these guys did in Glen Rock looked great, and since my customers always ask me for a roofer.. I got their number. I believe they've been in business quite a while too. Barkocy roofing did 2 roofs for me over the years. Over 20 years ago they did a good job. At my present house, different story. We have had a major leak for a long time. Tom came, made a repair. charged me good money for it, and it leaked even worse. Constant emails and excuses. I was in the hospital, busy etc. He kept promising me he would return to fix the roof, but never had the decency to do so. We work very hard for our money. We have 2 kids in college. Barkocy ripped us off, and this is what he bought for himself. Stay the hell away from him, or you will be sitting here writing the same letter. read more

They did a major job for me years ago and at the time I thought they were efficient and showed integrity in their work. We had a five year warranty and before the warranty expired I contacted them because of leaks in the same 2 areas they did work on. They came to the house and said it was an easy fix but from that point on I was never able to get an appointment to do the repair. "I'll call you next week, too busy until next month, blah blah blah" were the responses I got. The dad blamed the son, the son blamed the dad and how sad is that. That was in August of the year before my warranty expired in April. Nothing. I wrote to the BBB and asked that they refund the money I paid them (approx $6000) so I can have the work fixed correctly. Again, they claimed they were willing to do the repairs and I was never able to get an appointment with them. Also, up until I had this bad experience, I referred many clients to them who all told me they never responded to the phone calls. As far as I'm concerned, they are losers and a waste to do business with. Shame on the sons for destroying a business that their dad worked hard to build and handed to them. At some point, I didn't even want them to come back since I have no way of knowing if they are actually doing the repair. Losers! read more
