A glass mug filled with golden beer and a foamy head is positioned on a dark, speckled restaurant or cafe table. In the background, there are other drinks, including a tall glass with a lemon slice and ice, and another glass with a straw. The setting appears to be a casual dining environment with blurred elements of the interior and outdoor light visible.

We wanted to try Polish food while in Chicago and we're so glad we chose this restaurant to try! The waitress was very nice and we enjoyed all the food we ordered. It was a lot of food for 2 and we brought some leftovers home. I recommend trying this place if you want authentic Polish food!

Food: my second visit after few years, can't forget the taste of the sausage & the cabbage roll. Service: seems they were having a wedding event when we arrived, staffs are so busy and takes 20-30min waiting for the food. But the staff are nice as always. Ambiance: very cozy place, each table has its own shape, the gambling machine is very rare decoration in other restaurants. Price: $30+/ 2ppl

A transparent glass mug filled with a light amber-colored liquid is positioned on a dark, reflective table surface. The mug has a handle and the brand name 'Anchor Hocking' embossed on its side. In the background, there are black chairs, tables, and patrons seated, indicating a restaurant environment. The image captures the beverage and part of the dining area.

Stitch visited Szarotka in Justice, Illinois and found a cozy spot serving up classic Polish comfort food. The menu proudly states that everything is fresh and nothing comes from a can--Stitch likes that! He started with the potato pancakes, which were big and crispy but a little bland, so maybe choose a different appetizer next time. But then came the Polish Plate #2--whoa, it was huge! Easily enough for two Earthlings (or one very hungry Stitch). The plate had two tender cabbage rolls, tasty dumplings, pierogi, Polish sausage with sauerkraut, and a refreshing cucumber salad. Everything was delicious and super reasonably priced--Stitch got a beer, appetizer, and meal for two for just $45! Stitch says: give this place a try and come hungry!

Polish plate #1 on the menu - A white oval plate contains Polish cuisine with boiled potatoes, two types of sausage, and a generous serving of creamy gravy. There are pickled vegetables and chopped green onions on top. The table has a dark surface with a spoon and fork on a napkin, and additional items include a bowl of potato salad, a glass of beer, and a pitcher of beer. A small flower arrangement is also visible.

First time here and I love it . It's been a while since I had Polish food and I was recommended to try Szarotka in Justice and I'm glad I did the service was great and the food was delicious

Polish Plate no. 1. Enough for two.

I've had a few Polish dishes in the past but nothing like a true authentic dish from a true Polish restaurant. While in Chicago we try to sample different foods and dining experiences the city has to offer and managed to come across Szarotka's restaurant. We were not disappointed. In one word, Delicious! The service was great as we were promptly greeted and seated at a comfortable table for four. The area is good for families yet well suited for larger events and larger meals. I sampled a chicken dish bathed in a very unique teriyaki sauce with mushrooms and vegetables. My side of sauerkraut and mashed potatoes completed my meal. We also had a Polish Plate No. 1 which was a combination of sausage, sauerkraut, pierogies, and cabbage rolls. Our dinning companions had a side of potato pancakes and cucumber salad (we had to sample) The best potato pancakes!

Two elderly women are seated at a restaurant table with a granite surface. One woman, wearing a purple sweater, is holding a bowl of soup with a spoon, while the other woman, standing behind her, is wearing a striped shirt. The table has a glass of water with lemon, utensils, and napkins. In the background, a person in a red shirt is seated near a window with curtains, and sunlight is coming through. The setting appears to be a casual dining environment.

The line was long at times, but the staff did a great job of keeping the food full and hot! They do take reservations and it's great for large groups. The food is incredible and authentic. Best potato pancakes and stuffed cabbage I've ever had! I also loved the sausage and the coleslaw. They only had potato pierogi at the buffet but you are able to order variations from the server. Our server was prompt, but a little standoff-ish. It may have been due to how busy the night was. The kraut was not my favorite but it was still good. They had a carving station at the end of the buffet with different meats! If you do not like traditional polish food, there are still some options. That being said, you'll be missing out! There was a little dessert station with a few options and a soft serve ice cream machine. Our entire group ate until we were stuffed! I heard they do catering and I think in the future we may try that for a family event.

Growing up Polish, we had…read moremy grandfather's funeral luncheon here over 40 years ago, and shockingly, nothing has changed -- literally nothing. The interior and exterior appear untouched. The chandelier and lighting were coated in dust and grime, and it didn't look like the carpeting had ever been cleaned. The food was basic and bland. The sauerkraut tasted "off," and the cabbage rolls were served in a watery broth instead of the traditional tomato-based sauce. Everything felt generic and uninspired. Not a single pierogi was available, which was especially disappointing. Our server, Agnieszka, provided no real table service. Our water pitcher was never refilled, no extra napkins were offered, and when I asked for sour cream, I was told to get it myself from the buffet. From the moment we sat down, she rushed us repeatedly, asking multiple times if we were ready for drinks. She even cleared plates while my uncle was still eating she took his plate while he still had sausage on it he was eating. The bill came to $225. We paid more than half in cash and the remainder by card. When she came to collect the cash, I politely asked to count it together before she took it. She responded assertively, "No, I am going to count the money with you. This is how we are going to do it." Her count was incorrect, so I said, "Now I am going to count the money with you," and my count was correct. After paying, we remained seated for about 15 minutes. She then came over and told us they needed the table for people with reservations. She said to leave without saying that we had to leave. We were all stunned! While there were a few people waiting, there were also several open tables. We were essentially pushed out so the table could be turned over. Overall, the waitress was rude, authoritative, impersonal, unprofessional, and completely out of line. Everyone working there appeared miserable. We will never return. As a family, we should have left our childhood memories untouched, they were good ones. Tonight's experience was horrible. If you're looking for a pleasant environment, do not go here.

The portions were generous, everything arrived hot and fresh, and you can tell a lot of care goes into every recipe. It felt like a true home cooked meal in the best way. We left full, happy, and we're already planning our next visit. Also side note - We've also ordered their food through DoorDash, and it was just as delicious. Tradycja is a fine, upscale dining experience: really awesome decor with lots of hand crafted touches, a menu filled with great choices. I started with the sauerkraut pierogi as an appetizer: light and simple but amazing with bits of bacon and a small dish of sour cream. My main was called a breaded pork chop but I'd call it more of a schnitzel topped with mushrooms and a sheep's milk cheese. For sides I added sauerkraut and potato pancakes. While the pork and sauerkraut were both great I cannot emphasize enough: these are the best potato pancakes on the planet. No applesauce or sour cream needed. Service is also very friendly and accommodating, our server was charming and helpful. I should add that everything was cooked to order so it's not quick but unlike lots of other restaurants, you can tell that Tradycja doesn't use shortcuts or cheap filler ingredients: everything is like you would make it at home. My wife has a sensitive stomach and ends up feeling like she's had way too much salt and grease when we eat out and she felt great after our dinner there. Please go there often: this place is a treasure.
