For snack/dinner, I decided to visit a pølse stand called Syverkiosken to try out sausage served with lompe (a flatbread rather similar looking to tortillas but made from potato). Place is a bit further out of city center so bear that in mind if you're in a rush or rely on public transport. I wasn't sure what to get so just asked the owner to serve me the most classic version. The fried onion was a nice touch alongside your classic ketchup and mustard topping. Pretty affordable (34DKK) by Norway standard for sure but not the most comfortable seating area (outdoor and by the trash), more so a street style kind of food.

    Witness this hot dog masterpiece!!!

So freaking delicious. Nearly every meal I ate in Oslo was over 500kr, but the best thing I ate was two of these guys for a fraction of that. Service was awesome - very friendly and welcoming to this tourist. Grab a few of these and a vaffel and you're set.

Really good food and especially friendly service. He knew quite a bit about our home state of Montana! Really fun place and the ambiance of street food doesn't get any more legit than this place. We're happy we found this via Yelp!

My wife, daughter, and I visited the "best" hot dog stand in each city (Bergen, Oslo, and Tromsø) during our visit to Norway. I give Syverkiosken the award for most difficult to order for English speakers. Their menu was just the Norwegian name of several hot dogs written in pencil on a small sheet of paper displayed in the window. Pictures would have been beneficial, or at least a better view behind the counter through the window. We struck up a conversation with a local, asking what his favorite was and to help translate. He got us going in the right direction and narrowed things down. The man behind the counter appeared aloof initially but warmed up once we started talking to him. We learned at this stand there is only one kind of actual hot dog but multiple toppings to add to it. The first choice is bread or lompe (tortilla-like). We all chose the traditional hot dog bun (bread). My wife added fried onions (onion straws), ketchup and mustard. I tried carmelized onions on mine instead. Between the two, I think crispy is the way to go. The caramelized onions had a pickled taste to them. They had other toppings, including relish and potato salad. We enjoyed our hot dogs but this stand was not on anyone's favorite list. For my wife, Tromsø won. Bergen came out on top for my daughter and I.

Fun location to stop and grab a norge hotdog! Stepping out of our regular comfort zone hot dog was exciting and nice to see a different style. You can add your choice of condiments and lounge around while commonly music will be played. I do wish there was more seating but always okay to grab and go!

Serving affordable Hot Dogs since 1979 Syverkiosken is a culinary landmark in Oslo, the Sausages boiled in a rich Stock offered on Potato Flatbread with a variety of condiments displayed in Norwegian. Located near Alexander Kiellands Plass beside a mural, usually unmistakable thanks to the line, guests request Dog on Lompe that are quickly prepared featuring plenty of snap atop Lompe that is soft and warm. The last of its kind, a family recipe passed down with time, sauteed Onions are suggested as the most favored topping per owner Erlend Dahlbo though the "special" includes Potato Salad with Mushrooms while fans of heat may prefer creamy Jalapenos.

While on a recent visit to Norway, this one spot was on our bucket list to try and it did not disappoint. The hot dogs are long, slender dogs boiled perfectly. I order one with the lompe (flat bread like tortilla) with the crispy onions and fantastic mustard. That was the best combination in my opinion. My travel mate ordered the same but with ketchup and homemade potato salad, be careful because this one is messy. The service was delightful, we couldn't decide on what to order so we let the next person in line order and then asked lots of questions. There is now a laminated English ordering sheet that is very helpful. The gentleman serving our hotdogs was friendly and helpful. This spot is easy to find with a few bistro tables outdoors. There is always a line so be patient and figure out what you want to order before visiting. Makes life so much easier. I recommend trying a Norwegian hotdog!!

Would you believe that I would fly across the world to eat a vendor hot dog?? The answer is, yes, most absolutely, yes! Ask me again? Yes! In a heartbeat. I don't speak Norwegian but I would learn to speak it if it was the only way to order a hot dog! Luckily, I didn't have to go through that route. Can I just say that it was freezing the night we went. It was -20 but hunger doesn't care how cold it is. So frozen, we marched to get to this place. And was it worth it, hell yes! They spoke to us in our tongue!! No confusion, no doubts. My 2 hot dogs and 2 drinks plz! We scarfed our hot dogs almost instant. They were phenomenal. And we had two drinks that m we've never tried before. They were good too. The hot dogs were perfect! Tender, not overcooked, not chewy, just perfect. The flavor was just right. The best part of these hot dogs is that there was zero indigestion. None! If I had a private jet, I would be there right now. They have been in business for over 50 years and guess what, it's for a reason! Do not hesitate! Just go!! Money well spent!!!

    Norwegian style pølser

Syverkiosken serves this Norwegian delicacy up hot and fresh. Their pølser constitute cheap eats in terms of price but are not stingy on flavor. Sourced from a local butcher and boiled in bone broth, they are extra savory. They can even be served with jalapeños for added kick. I, however, opted for "Norwegian Style" which came cradled in a lompe. This soft potato and flour tortilla nicely balanced the snap of the hotdog and crunch of the fried onions. I only caution that you to watch for drips of tangy ketchup and mustard less you stain your shoes.

Huge amount of history here as the oldest hot dog stand of its kind from when they were popular in Oslo in the 50s (or so the young lady tells me!) They put what appears to be a tortilla on top of the hot dog - but it's made of potato. I had some fried onions and sweet mustard on it and it was .

We had to try this place given it was the only local hot dog stand left in Oslo. It was such a beautiful neighborhood joint - the owner was SO kind and welcoming to us asking which flavors we preferred and building a hot dog around that. He knew everyone in the area by name and really had a presence in that neighborhood. The hot dogs were also AMAZING, which makes sense because he home-makes all the ingredients and grows the jalapenos and tomatoes himself. He boils the sausages in a bull broth which gives it a smoky flavor and basically we scarfed everything down. We tried one with homemade potato salad and caramelized onions, and the other with jalapenos, onions, homemade mustard and ketchup. He throws his own spin on them by throwing this thin potato pancakes on top, but don't worry it works! Two hot dogs for a little under $9 - quite a steal in center City Oslo! I'd highly recommend this place - not only for the delicious food but also for the wonderful hospitality.

Overrated. Save you hotdog needs for somewhere else. The service and ambiance was good, but the hot dog was not anything special

They don't open until 2pm on Sundays, I will try to get Yelp to update. We showed up at noon so had to figure out how to waste a couple hours, which was a bit difficult since most retail in this area is closed on Sunday. We were starving once we came back at 2pm, and each ordered a dog. We can't read Norwegian that well so kind of flew by the seat of our pants, but it turned out all good. The beer selection here is good, and not horribly overpriced. I really like the vibe of the place, it's spacious, had covered outdoor seating, and comfy to hang out and stay a while. We both really enjoyed the dogs, I like mine best but my husbands was really good too. He got the Puerco, and I don't remember the name of mine. We also got the polse chip things which were interesting... they were thinly sliced sausage cooked until crispy and you dip them in bbq sauce. Definitely one of my more favorite stops in the Sentrum and I know we will be back!

The menu can be a little difficult to navigate on your own, but the employees are able to help if you need it. Google Translate gets the job done too. Most surprising was the vegan dog; it didn't have the snap of the other sausages but otherwise it was indistinguishable from them. We had 4 of them (Puerco, MIM, Completo, and Bunga Bunga) and the Puerco (chili dog with chips, cheese, and their chili mayo) was the clear favorite. They also have a dozen beers on tap here, originating from the US to Japan. Total cost for 4 dogs + 2 beers was 532 NOK (about $66 US) which is an average price.

Not only is it the first taco truck, it also serves enlightened tacos…read more This is no TacoBell-style fredagstaco with old ground beef, grated Norvegia and hard Eldorado shells. At 4 Gringos they are serious about their quality proteins: marinated beef, pulled pork, chicken, or refrito beans, and dress each one with its own character. The combination is explosive - each juicy bite is extremely flavorful, and anyone used to classic "Nor-Mex" would be dizzied by the spectra of taste of these badass tacos. The usual run of info: you can order big snack 2 soft-shell tacos for 70 noks (hipster), up to large meal 4 for 130 noks (fiesta) with a choice of beef/pork/chicken/beans, served out with a set of three/four toppings of their design. The beef is probably the best, the pulled pork second. They also have toasted quesadillas and mixed burritos. You eat outdoors without a table: while sitting around Youngstorget's fountain is nice in the summer, it can be less pleasant in cold winters. It's not perfect: the luscious toppings can be a little too messy for a one-handed taco dining, and make the taco shells too soggy to hold it together. Many trucks in USA serve up double tortillas for this exact problem, and they could have done that here. Also, I do think they are victims of their own creativity and being overly complex. Each taco had 5-6 flavors going on, and I prefer 4-5 for cleaner palate. Or, you should not order a fiesta of all 4 flavors, like I did! :) The food is competitive with some of the best sit-down tacos around. Taco Republica may have better-made cochinita pibil but they cost a fortune, whereas 4 Gringos is affordable and unique in giving what we the people need more of - a pioneering no-frills, damn good food truck.
