4 Gringos is a revolución! Not only is it the first taco truck, it also serves enlightened tacos. This is no TacoBell-style fredagstaco with old ground beef, grated Norvegia and hard Eldorado shells. At 4 Gringos they are serious about their quality proteins: marinated beef, pulled pork, chicken, or refrito beans, and dress each one with its own character. The combination is explosive - each juicy bite is extremely flavorful, and anyone used to classic "Nor-Mex" would be dizzied by the spectra of taste of these badass tacos. The usual run of info: you can order big snack 2 soft-shell tacos for 70 noks (hipster), up to large meal 4 for 130 noks (fiesta) with a choice of beef/pork/chicken/beans, served out with a set of three/four toppings of their design. The beef is probably the best, the pulled pork second. They also have toasted quesadillas and mixed burritos. You eat outdoors without a table: while sitting around Youngstorget's fountain is nice in the summer, it can be less pleasant in cold winters. It's not perfect: the luscious toppings can be a little too messy for a one-handed taco dining, and make the taco shells too soggy to hold it together. Many trucks in USA serve up double tortillas for this exact problem, and they could have done that here. Also, I do think they are victims of their own creativity and being overly complex. Each taco had 5-6 flavors going on, and I prefer 4-5 for cleaner palate. Or, you should not order a fiesta of all 4 flavors, like I did! :) The food is competitive with some of the best sit-down tacos around. Taco Republica may have better-made cochinita pibil but they cost a fortune, whereas 4 Gringos is affordable and unique in giving what we the people need more of - a pioneering no-frills, damn good food truck. read more

One of the first food trucks to pop up in Oslo. 4 gringos are four guys with restaurant background who serves simple Mexican street food from their small truck parked at Youngstorget. Two tacos cost NOK 70. You can choose from chicken, beef and vegetarian (some kind of beans) at the moment, and pork is to be added to the menu shortly. They can also make it as a quesadillas. Additionally they offered chicken chili soup for NOK 60. When I ordered two tacos I got a little taster of the soup to warm myself on. A welcoming treat in the cold. They are open every Saturday now, but told me they plan to expand to Thursdays and Fridays as well, and in the long term they hope to stay open 7 days a week - all year. read more

I have eaten total five times. In the beginning I thought they were great. Bit small tacos, but the chicken for example, was delicious. However, last two times seems like the quality has been going down... I got soggy flavoured nacho chips...horrible. Almost like bad Taco Bell in the States. The beef tasted like barbecue sauce in it, and there has often been too much fruit and sweet things on the taco in my opinion. However, the service is always great (guys from the UK, always friendly and talkative) and its cool to have real food trucks in Norway. I hope they will try to improve! read more

Best burrito I've had so far in the city. I've stopped by to see these gringos multiple times and I am never ever disappointed. The flavors are fresh and spicy and the pork is what dreams are made of. No matter how busy they are these guys always serve with a smile. Just typing this makes me want one of their burritos! This is the real taco food truck in Oslo. It's real Mexican food with burritos and tacos on the menu and all tastes good. So if you see this food truck I really think you should try it and its great for a quick lunch or dinner on the run or at a festival or other event. The food truck also looks very cool. I've tried both the tacos and the burrito and I really like them both. The tacos are really good but my personal favorite is without a doubt the burrito. Looking for a place to have a relatively quick dinner near Youngstorget, the time finally came for me to try one of Oslo's food trucks. To be honest, I have been a bit skeptical about the food truck concept as it is expressed in Oslo. In my head, food truck means good food to cheaper prices than in restaurants, but looking at the prices on the menus compared to the sizes of the meals I have often gotten the opposite impression. I wanted a proper dinner to keep me full during an evening of adventures, and asked the woman at the counter about the difference between the Burrito and the Fat Boy Burrito. She explained that the Burrito was 350 g while the Fat Boy was 500 g. Being a big eater, I though I'd go for the Fat Boy. I was oh so wrong - 350 g would have filled me properly! I did not manage to finish the roll. And to be honest, it it did not do much in inspiring me to finish it either. It tasted mainly of beans and red cabbage. I missed a more distinct taco flavor, and some salsa freshness. But I put in a disclaimer here that I've not eaten than many burritos in my life, and maybe I'm just not a burrito person. Now don't get me wrong, this was an OK meal, but I consider it to be overpriced at it's 135 nok. On the upside, Youngstorget is a lovely place to sit and have dinner in the warm summer evenings, and there are some benches conveniently placed close to the truck. Unfortunately, my prejudice of the food trucks got backed up. But I promise, I will try to keep my mind open and give them more chances ;) read more

Okay.. so we had them nacho-platters, and they were terrible. I couldn't eat it, I have two friends whom couldn't eat it. The food was cold, the "seriously hot" sause was mild, and in addition their "Jarritos" soda was more of a juice. Also, the texture of the meat felt like hair. I was nice enough to give it 2 stars, for getting what I ordered (at least something in the same category). read more

I just had my first chicken burrito at 4 Gringos and I have to say it was really good! Also a pleasant change from the many shawarma shops in downtown Oslo. But back to the amazing chicken burrito! It was really nice and tasty :) Flavourful and moist chicken with nice'n'fresh salsa served with a delicious chipotle sauce, of which I got some to take home with me. Good service too! Devouring that burrito and closing my eyes brought me back to the infinite truck burritos I've eaten back in sunny California! I'm so looking forward to come back for the chicken burrito and all the other nom stuff they are serving. Highly recommended! :D read more

Pork without any spices, raw bell peppers, red onion, plain pinto beans, some kind of sweet sauce w/ no chili/spice, guacamole that looked and tasted like it's store bought. Want a good burrito? Don't go here. I was really really sad when I started eating my long awaited(!!!), so called burrito. It was one of the most bland things you can imagine (I mean spoces have been around for a while now), with a coleslaw (wtf?) overpowering all the of the other tastes in the wrap. I am really sad to say that their tacos were the worst I've had in my entire life. I ordered the vegetarian tacos which basically ended up to be just salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and a tablespoon of beans; in short, stuff you would get without the meat. It was very bland and the combination tasted weird, even though it's standard Mexican fare. They also could have substituted the meat with other vegetables (bell peppers, zucchini, etc.) to make it more substantial, or charged less for vegetarian tacos. I paid the same price as the non-vegetarian version (almost $10). Service was poor and slow. I stood in front of their truck for a while before they even said hello to me. Blond guy who took my order struck me as a know-it-all when I requested a vegetarian taco (not on the menu), though perhaps he was just trying to be cool. I thought this place was run by people that had actually been in Mexico for awhile. Maybe I misunderstood as this was definitely not even close to authentic Mexican food except the fact they were very liberal with the cilantro. I got the quesadilla since I think it is extremely hard to go wrong with a tortilla and melted cheese. So whenever I try a new Mexican place, it is always the first thing I order. The cheese wasn't completely melted and it was kind of cold. Also, the juices from the beans and "guacamole" ran, so the tortillas were soggy on the bottom. They were edible, but I prefer not to waste calories on "edible" unless it's something healthy. The guacamole however was repulsive. I have had some bad guacamole in Norway given it's not easy to find a good avocado here so I am tolerant and sympathetic to what people try to pass off as guacamole here and often just try to ignore it. This guacamole, however, looked like what came out of my two year niece when she had the stomach flu a couple of weeks ago. It was yellow, it was runny, and there were unrecognizable chunks. I can't imagine there was any avocado in it at all. I am thinking they might have tried the mashed peas trick and tried to cover that up with a ton of lime juice, onion, and salt as I have never seen bright yellow guacamole or avocados before.
