The environment is decent, service is good, most importantly the food is excellent. Although it looks like a bit pricey, it is value for money

I found this restaurant through Instagram since they have just started an Instagram account. Looking at their IG posts, it seems like this place offers traditional Japanese cuisine with high-quality ingredients. Finally I had a chance to try this restaurant. Starting with the Eel nigiri and Wagyu nigiri, which were ordered by my husband. So, I did not taste them. He said the Eel nigiri was solid, and the Wagyu nigiri was very tender, but it didn't melt in his mouth yet. Ebi shinjo - Deep-fried shrimp paste. The batter was crispy, and the shrimp paste was soft, resulting in a very good texture. Tuna aburi battera - The shari (sushi rice) was quite good. The tuna and aburi sauce on top of the sushi were actually better than in other restaurants. The sauce wasn't too thick (I don't like too much or too thick sauce on top of sushi), and this was perfect. Deluxe sashimi - Hamachi, Salmon, Tuna, Tai, and prawn. The quality of sashimi I had in this restaurant was very high. Especially, the prawn and Hamachi were exceptional. It was priced at CAD 98.00, but it was definitely worth it. Miyazaki wagyu sukiyaki - This was the highlight of our meal. The Miyazaki wagyu was incredibly tender, melting in your mouth and bursting with flavor. The sukiyaki sauce was rich and flavorful, and I truly enjoyed it with tofu, shungiku, and other vegetable ingredients. I will definitely order it again. Overall, I am really satisfied with this restaurant. In terms of price range, it's not the kind of place I'd visit on a daily basis, but when I'm in Richmond, it's definitely worth a visit to try authentic and traditional Japanese cuisine. I will definitely visit again

One of the most memorable meals I have ever had, and certainly my favorite for my most recent Seattle/Vancouver trip. After discovering that our previously selected restaurant for our dinner plans was a bust, we redirected and came to Syu for dinner. This was a blessing in disguise as this restaurant was my favorite for the entire trip. My boyfriend and I ended up coming here due to the amazing reviews for the Omakase Bentos. We were lucky enough to have secured two of the last four that the chef had available for the night. As part of the bento, you were given rice, a 2x2 tray of accompaniments, and a bowl of rice. The 2x3 bento had assorted sashimi, tempura, salad with a fish in the center, pan fried cod, melt-in-your-mouth wagyu, and this amazing creamy salmon paste. We also ordered two Ikura handrolls and shared a unagi scallop roll to top things off. For less than $100 USD per person, including gratuity, this was a great deal, especially since the quality of the food is worth significantly more in the Bay Area. I have Syu bookmarked as a must visit during our return to Vancouver.

I had hoped for the best after reading the mixed reviews that I would have a pleasant experience. I absolutely loved the service, staff was super attentive and kind. The food and the price, not so much. Food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great or worth the price. I could get the same type of food and the somewhat fresh fish at any local sushi restaurants in my opinion. The restaurant has good potential, great parking, ambiance, and staff for a special day. Just need to fix the food so it tastes like it's worth the price and the freshness of the seafood needs to be dealt with.

I heard this restaurant was newer and they were working out the kinks so I'll be kind. Each dish was delicious and well presented and I can see all the servers hustling. We had to flag down our server to order. Our drinks came way after our food but worth the wait. Try the matcha "shot". Ambiance is pleasant and super clean. Hope they get super busy so they can hire more servers. Prices were a little more expensive than normal and they had some unusual items. All very good! Would try again and remember to bring your patience. Don't be afraid to wave over your server. There is street parking but avoid indoor parking garage if eating late. You'll have to walk around the building to get back in if you do.

I would say dining here is definitely not cheap, but it's worth a try! Everything we had was very good. The kinmedai whole fish is definitely the highlight of this dinner. The kinmedai whole fish includes sashimi and nigiri. The fish is fatty and fresh. They also use the leftover fish to make soup! The creamy uni udon is really delicious. I also really enjoyed the beef sukiyaki. It's savory and sweet, the umami flavor of the sliced wagyu beef definitely elevates the whole thing. Since this place is so close to where I live, I would love to try their lunch sometime!

One of the best meals I've ever had. We ended up here on a whim after the other places we were looking at were closed and as soon as we got here we were worried it was too fancy for our budget tonight. While this is definitely on the nicer end it's well worth it and priced very well considering the quantity and quality of the food and service. Our servers were lovely and helpful and the atmosphere really gives Syu an upscale feel. I can't recommend the Omakase Bento enough it allows you to try a little bit of everything and at $58 the quality and selection can't be beat.

The staffs/owner were very friendly and made great recommendations. Had the hamachi carpaccio, so refreshing and appetizing. The homemade ponzu (lemony) sauce has a nice finish with thin sliced onions and veggies. The Engawa Arburi nigiri was recommended, and it was phenomenal. It is the 'fin edge' of flounder. Super delicate, with seared (arburi) flavor and melts in your mouth. Yum! The other highlight was the Wagyu beef cubes severed on stick. Two skewers 4 cubes each. The Wagyu was perfectly cooked. It melts in your mouth with every bite. We also enjoyed the 7 piece Omakase sushi set. The fish was very fresh and satiating. Love the lotus root chips garnishing. We loved everything we had but would likely skip the Omakase appetizer Platter. Perhaps we were spoiled by the hamachi carpaccio appetizer. We still enjoyed it but For the same price, we would prefer the sushi set. It had 9 small plates in a beautiful serving box including- tiny sashimi cube of salmon, tuna, tamago, and my fav is the komochi nishin (herring fillets ("Nishin") layered over a base of crunchy capelin roe), also included in the tiny plates of apps were, chicken karaage, baby taco, sliced taco, taco in red sauce, and seaweed salad. They told us to join the google waitlist when we wanted to come in so we checked about an hour beforehand and there was no active waitlist online. We were seriously refreshing the screen as we were driving over to the restaurant. When we got to the restaurant they told us to join the waitlist and lo and behold there were already 5 people ahead of us!! The restaurant is small and the waiting area even smaller -- with 5 ahead of us we ended up waiting about an hour!! We got the dinner sets of soba/sushi, chirashi, and unagi. Everything tasted solid but seems small for the price. My little (who doesn't eat much) finished the whole meal set and said she was only 50% full and proceeded to eat snacks in the car after dinner. The staff spoke Japanese so you know it's pretty authentic but for the price and the wait, it could've delivered more.

Our server was fantastic. We didn't get her name, but she's from Ontario. She's been there almost a year. She's very professional, but cheery, warm and friendly. We love how the hand rolls are served by the chefs who prepare them and done at well unhurried pace---always keeping a watchful eye on the guest. The restaurant is really a big bar which makes sense in this kind of experience. The design is sleek, modern with an eye catching ceiling design. It's located by one of the entrances of CF Richmond Centre Mall. We were happily satiated, but didn't feel full.
