He was not recommended to us by anyone nor did we personally know anyone who used his services. My family had no association with Benjamin Kohen prior to the wedding. Of course, friends offered advice and referrals of photographers they had engaged as well as tidbits of information on photographers whom they suggested we avoid. We met with several of the "highly-recommended," "highly-regarded," NYC-area photographers--some of whom we had even used in the past for a variety of important occasions. In all of the encounters, we spoke with staff members--not the photographer. Much to our delight, when it was time to glean insight into Benjamin Kohen Photography, we met with Benjamin Kohen! He spent almost 2 hours via Zoom answering our questions and addressing our concerns. Additionally, he provided various pricing/service structures that aligned with our budget. We ultimately chose Benjamin Kohen--a photographer with whom we were completely unfamiliar and whose work with which we were completely unfamiliar--for a most important milestone event. We are thrilled we made that decision! In advance of the wedding, Benjamin Kohen met with the bride and groom for an "engagement shoot." The opportunity to photograph the engaged couple did more than provide the families with beautiful photos; the time that Benjamin spent with the newly-engaged couple established a relationship between him and them. Thus, a level of comfort and familiarity was established in advance of the wedding day. Essential to this exchange, was the opportunity to acquaint Benjamin with "photo preferences" e.g., the bride likes to be photographed from a certain angle/side, the groom expressed his preferences. A working dynamic was forged, as Benjamin photographed the engaged couple on the day of the engagement shoot. Benjamin traveled to several of the couple's favorite sites--relevant to their courtship--to snap portraits and candids of the soon-to-be bride and groom. The engagement photos were lovely. Furthermore, they provided yet another opportunity for the couple to review what they like and share that information with Benjamin--who, subsequently, implemented that feedback into the wedding day/photos. As for the wedding day, Benjamin Kohen and his colleagues arrived at the wedding venue...early! He and his crew began executing on everything he had planned and scheduled with the bride and groom. There was a timeline set in advance, and he stuck to it! This certainly mitigated any stress related to photo taking. The videographers were also present to capture every facet of the wedding day preparations. Again, there was an established level of comfort between Benjamin and the bride and groom, which contributed to an ease in photographing. Benjamin's other photographers and the videographers were extremely professional and were obviously capturing shots from every vantage point. This is clearly evidenced in the photos and video. And if you are wondering about the actual wedding photos and video footage, they surpassed our expectations. The lighting and various techniques created stunning content. The photos are classy. The photos are elegant. They reflect a union of two individuals...not a photo or photographer. The photos reflect families and friends and the love that abounds. While memories are forever held in the heart, photos and video are invaluable in their own rite. Benjamin Kohen Photography created treasures. I will say I had a great experience with hair/makeup and dress but photography was such a horrible experience. We saw sample pictures beforehand and decided to go with Rahel but the pictures we actually got were no where near what we were given. I will preface and say that we were pre-warned that we were double booked that day and were not going to get the main photographer,however, I am not just upset at the quality of photos but just the lack of professionalism that followed. We ended up taking studio photos that day with the main photographer which actually were edited and came out nice, however, the pictures taken at the venue were terrible with the other photographers. Many of the pictures looked like we were inside a club due to horrible flash. Many pictures we were washed out with flash directly in our faces. Not just that but barely none were edited. We just got a photo dump of nearly 7 gbs of just raw pictures. We hired photography to get professional pictures but we just ended up with a photo dump of just raw photos and terrible ones at that. The worst part is I tried emailing the group about my concerns 3 times with NO response and am just amazed at their unprofessionalism with their clients. I guess once they have your money they just have no regard for you. If at least there was some dialogue about the situation I don't think I would have been as upset but the fact that before the wedding they were very responsive to the silence that followed afterwards is just what is very upsetting.
