Systems training center camp review: Our kids had an amazing experience at Systems Training Center Summer Camp! Every week brought a new theme that kept them excited to come back--from movie making and engineering challenges to building a utopian city and exploring cultures from around the world through food, dances, and traditions. The camp does a great job balancing indoor activities with fun walks outside, giving the kids plenty of opportunities to stay active while learning. More than anything, it's a safe, encouraging environment where kids can be loud, get messy, make mistakes, learn from them, and build confidence and independence along the way. The staff truly cares about the kids, and you can see it in everything they do. If you're looking for a summer camp that's fun, creative, educational, and helps your child grow, I highly recommend Systems Training Center. It's a place every parent should consider! read more

Important note: This review pertains specifically to the Systems Training Center Summer Camp, not the dojo's regular martial arts instruction. My son attended the summer camp/day program only and was not enrolled as a regular martial arts student. I enrolled my son hoping for a fun, safe, and well-supervised summer experience. Unfortunately, that was not our experience, and I would not enroll him again. The camp often felt disorganized and seemed to operate without much advance planning. Activities appeared to change from day to day, and there was little evidence of a structured program. The first warning sign came during my son's first week. After only a few days, he came home, burst into tears, sobbed in my arms for more than ten minutes, and begged me not to make him return. He described the environment as "overwhelming" and "overstimulating" because of the constant screaming, yelling, and disruptive behavior from some campers. Those concerns continued throughout the summer. To be clear, I understand children sometimes struggle with emotional regulation and behavior. My concern is not that children are expected to be perfect. My concern is that I expect adults supervising a children's camp to appropriately manage disruptive or aggressive behavior, protect all campers, and provide an environment where children feel safe. Based on both what I observed and what my son consistently reported, I did not feel that happened. For example, my son reported that one camper became upset during a game, ran at him while screaming, and grabbed at his clothing. He also reported this was not an isolated incident but part of a pattern of repeated screaming, tantrums, and disruptive behavior from this camper and another camper that made him increasingly uncomfortable attending camp. My biggest concerns, however, involved supervision and safety outside the dojo. My son reported that counselors took campers on neighborhood "ninja walks" and encouraged them to practice parkour on nearby structures, including climbing a structural wall at a neighboring apartment complex using decorative rocks as footholds. He also reported a counselor challenged the children about who was "brave enough" to jump from what he estimated was a very high wall into an enclosed area below. My son declined to participate because he felt uncomfortable and became so distressed that he cried. What surprised me most was that I was never informed campers would routinely leave the dojo for these neighborhood activities. Nothing in the written materials or waiver explained that campers would be practicing parkour throughout the surrounding neighborhood. The paperwork states parents would receive advance notice of field trips. In my opinion, taking campers outside the dojo and throughout the neighborhood constitutes an off-site activity that parents should be informed about beforehand. When I later spoke with the camp director, she confirmed that these neighborhood "ninja walks" are a regular part of camp and stated they have permission from neighboring property owners to use parking lots, areas between buildings, and other structures. That was the first time I had heard that explanation. She also said part of the camp's philosophy is "stretching the kids to their limits." While I support helping children build confidence and resilience, I believe those challenges should occur in a carefully supervised environment with clear communication to parents. I also had concerns about security. During the entire camp session, I was never asked to show identification when picking up my son. On multiple occasions, counselors were on their phones when I entered the dojo and did not even look up to acknowledge who had come through the door. The surrounding neighborhood also concerned me. During drop-off and pick-up, I observed several individuals who appeared homeless and/or intoxicated. One individual in particular was dirty, disheveled, and wearing torn, soiled clothing. I watched him stand outside the dojo for several minutes with his face pressed against the glass doors and his hands cupped around his eyes so he could look inside and watch the children. Learning that campers were routinely taken on walks through this same neighborhood only increased my concern. When I discussed these issues with the director, I did not feel my concerns about supervision, behavior management, communication with parents, or safety were meaningfully addressed. Every family has different expectations, and some children may have a wonderful experience here. This review simply reflects ours. I was looking for a camp with consistent supervision, proactive communication, thoughtful behavior management, and strong safety practices. Based on what I personally observed and what my son consistently reported, I do not feel this summer camp met those expectations, and I would not enroll him again. read more

Systems Training Summer Camp was amazing! This is my son's first camp this summer and he had an absolute blast, he never wanted to leave. The thought and care put into this camp is unmatched. It wasn't just martial arts and movement, they got to do craft projects, games, had live entertainment, and creative projects that I'll forever cherish. My son was cared for, challenged and learned so much too! I'm very grateful to Mishel for her thoughtful weekly camp curriculum. Mishel and the staff were engaging with the kids and showed genuine care and interest (which for summer camps is a rare find!) Well, I usually picked them up at around 1-3pm and they would get upset that I came before 5pm! This gym is truly one of a kind. It has become a second home for my daughters and I, and the impact it's had on our confidence and strength is incredible. My middle daughter started with the summer camp with Coach Mishel and Coach Ed, and I was blown away by how hands-on it was. Unlike other camps, they blend STEM activities with martial arts and take the time to know every child on a personal level. Seeing her thrive there was the start of our journey here. My oldest daughter began with the women's kickboxing class and has since expanded into Jiu-Jitsu. Her athleticism and confidence have grown exponentially, and now both she and my middle daughter train jiu-jitsu multiple days a week. As for me, I've become a religious regular at the women's kickboxing class. Every woman should join this! Bo is one of my favorite instructors; he gave me the confidence to keep showing up. I learn something new every single time while constantly sharpening my current skills. I've since branched out into Thai pads, bag classes, intro to fighting, and Muay Thai. I've been training at Systems Training Center for two months now, and I absolutely love it! I mainly take the Bang Muay Thai classes, taught by Coach Mark, Marcus, and Bogarth -- each bringing their own unique and valuable teaching style. Coach Bogarth brings a fatherly energy to his classes that makes them both fun and challenging. He kicks things off with cardio (which I dread but secretly appreciate), and it gets your blood pumping and your mindset right. Coach Mark is incredibly technical and sharp -- probably because he's actively fighting. He teaches with a tactical mindset and helps you understand how to read your opponent and counter strikes effectively. Coach Marcus starts his classes with dynamic movement, which I love. His sessions blend technical skill with real-world self-defense applications, helping you connect what you're learning to real-life scenarios. The Krav Maga, bag work, and Thai pad classes have been amazing as well. Coach Marcus, Riley and Bogarth really focus on technique -- Riley especially emphasizes proper form to prevent injury, which I appreciate so much. He also breaks down why you're doing each movement, which helps you retain the information and execute better. This is amazing gym! I've been coming here for a little a year now, taking classes that include CrossFit, HIIT, and Olympic Weightlifting! Since I started I've lost some weight but what really mattered to me was getting stronger. I've come a long way since I started from lifting only a bar to now lifting 100 pounds! The trainers are amazing, they get to know you and acknowledge your improvements. They are all very knowledgeable about the movements and patient with teaching and getting you to where you want to be. Really great spot to get fit and learn self defense. As a busy professional, I was looking for a place that I could kill two birds with one stone and I have not been disappointed. Prior to the pandemic, the gym was teaching specific self protection classes for professionals that were not looking to earn a black belt in jujitsu but were just looking to master the 20% of combat skills that would take care of 80% of public encounters. Really smart and effective. Along with the physical part of the classes, they also had statistics to show why they were teaching specific techniques over others. 1. First of all, you are not present ALL the time at your gym as you would like people to believe. You are also a personal trainer ,and you do other events outside of the gym. You have other people teaching your class in your absence.So how can you be able to say that I "ALWAYS" take breaks on my partners turn ? Secondly, on the times when I did take breaks on my partners turn, I ALWAYS made sure to tell the instructor to take over in my absence so they can still put in work. The majority of the time, I took breaks on MY turn. 2.I took your advice and watched "ANY YOUTUBE VIDEO" I did not see people grabbing other peoples buttocks. They placed their hands behind the knee not hamstrings or buttocks. 3 times this young man placed his hands on my buttocks. The first time you were present and you said to him "Look where your hands are". His hands were on my buttocks, then after you corrected him he put them in the proper place, behind my knees. You stayed for a while making sure he understood how to properly do the maneuver. Once you felt he understood it, then you left and went to go help another student. The second you left the young man gets selective amnesia and places his hands around my buttocks AGAIN! I cautioned him and said " here" with a firm voice pointing to my knees. We do the maneuver again and he does it a THIRD time. I grabbed his wrist pushing his hands away from my buttocks and sternly told him that " You are making me very uncomfortable". If I had yelled as you falsely accuse me of doing, then why didn't you immediately come to my aide Marcus and come see what the problem was? I have no problem with Krav Maga being a contact sport. I have a problem being groped by a teenage boy with raging hormones and an owner who is blaming me trying to drag my reputation through the mud. In an effort to discredit me and make himself look like he is a concerned, caring individual.When in actuality all you are really concerned with is securing your reputation and INCOME. I even offered to give you a letter from my cardiologist which clearly states what I can and can't do. You indicated that you DID NOT need it. Do you think that all heart conditions are the same? Now you want to act like I was being disrespectful and selfish for needing to take a break. Tell me, Marcus, how is it disrespectful for a person with a heart condition to ask for a drink of water? When I was trying to be respectful and I asked: "May I go get a drink of water?" I was told "NO" Then you proceeded to embarrasse me in front of the entire class. You are no better than those people who knew about Weinstein, Cosby, and even Trump. They all blamed the victims instead of the perpetrators. It doesn't matter if the young man is 14 or 60 He was shown by YOU how to do the maneuver properly and twice after you were gone he STILL chose to put his hands on my buttocks.Not my thighs, not my hamstrings, and definitely not around my knees but my buttocks. 3. I signed up on March 10, 2018, at your place of business. The first review I wrote was written shortly after signing up. That was BEFORE this incident and your true colors were still in hiding then. Where is the confusion? 4. Yes, I've studied at ONE other facility and checked out another. It's a free country and I am allowed to do that.I gave them two stars, YOU were the only one who got one star. I wasn't groped at their facilities - just yours. I've trained with male partners at both places and never had any problems. They also didn't have an issue with me needing to get a drink of water during instruction . So the fact that you had the audacity to say I don't like being touched by men, is so ridiculously unbelievable and it is quite stupid. What facts do you have to back up that claim? I don't like being sexually assaulted by one. That's what I don't like. 5. You are also delusional if you think I would say " No hard feelings" to you over the phone when all you've done is blame the victim and try to cover up what happened at your facility so you can save face. Why would a victim who has been sexually assaulted say " No hard feelings"? That is what YOU said trying to cover yo ass. I even had to call you back after the first time we spoke on the phone because you had other things going on and you needed some time to THINK about this situation. After I called you back that's when all of these outlandish allegations came about. You've done absolutely nothing but blame the victim, and try to make your self-look like someone who is concerned about the situation at hand. When we both know that you are only concerned about securing your income. I have no reason to lie about ANYTHING that I've said and I've got receipts to back it up. Systems Training Center really took me out of my comfort zone and got me started on my MMA/ Jiu-jitsu journey. I credit them from helping me become more accountable and more disciplined in my everyday life. The coaches and staff are among the kindest and most welcoming people I've met. Going into a gym is already an intimidating feeling but from my first day on the mats I've felt welcomed in every class. The coaches and people who come here are always very helpful. I've been coming to Systems for about 7 months and even though there's other gyms near where I live and it's a bit of drive for me, I still choose to come to here for welcoming atmosphere. I attended the Yelp Fit Club event here and then came back for a trial crossfit class with my hubby. I will say that if you are interested in MMA then this is definitely a great place to start! When I walked in they had two martial arts classes going and people in the boxing ring. I'm not much for wrestling or grappling or punching, but there were some girls in there killing it! Go MMA girls! I loved my crossfit class with Marcus. He is a great instructor. He showed us the workout of the day aka WOD. Rope climb, 25 squats, 15 pull ups. Three rounds. At first I thought how in the heck will I pull off 45 pull ups? I am no Rocky Balboa. Well you other non pull up peeps they have bands that hang from the pull up bar that help you do pull ups! I did 60. Yeah yeah! Haven't done a rope climb since high school. I made it but my leg is still chaffed owie. I was way more popped than I thought I would be after that workout.
