I tried this spot out last night for the Muay Thai class. I have never taken a Muay Thai class before and made that very clear to the front desk and to the instructor. They were so patient and went above and beyond to make me comfortable. Fight training of any kind can be very intimidating, especially when. you look around the room and everyone looks like they know what they're doing. I was made to feel very comfortable and safe. As far as the class went, it was RAD! The instructor had me focus on myself and my form. He never put me in any situation where I wasn't ready for. In fact he gave me drills to just keep practicing and then would come and check on me and when I was ready he gave me a new move. I really appreciated the patience and the immediate safety/comfort I felt. read more

My son was a rising freshman and wanted to join the high school wrestling team at Mira Costa. A friend recommended Black House and my son started going a couple months before freshman year at the beginning of summer. It made a huge difference and he showed up to Freshman year have a decent understanding and some skills. He continued to go to the gym during the school year and it's clearly made a difference. He placed first in his weight class at the freshman open. I'm so happy he got a head start at blackhouse. read more

Great Muay Thai gym! As someone who knew nothing about MT before going in, the class was very welcoming to my beginner level. The coaches and other gym members will help you improve and challenge you to push your skills to the next level. You have the privilege of training with other fighters who fight professionally in MMA and Muay Thai, and it never feels like anyone gets any partial treatment. It can be discouraging going into a martial art with no prior experience, but no one is here to judge! The coaches are here to help you improve, and if you put in the effort, the results will show. So if you want to challenge yourself, be part of a community hardworking fighters, and have a fun time doing so, come out to Black House! Sawatdee krap! read more

This is solely based on their email skills. I asked the for the rates for adults and children. They replied with "Yes , we are open" and proceeded to tell me their schedule..... what???? To simplify the question I asked "How much?" crickets.... Why is it so hard to get pricing? read more

By far the best gym for martial arts in the South Bay. I've been attending this gym for almost a year now, and I've really enjoyed being a member here. I started out learning Muay Thai, then eventually doing Jiu Jitsu too. The coaches are both very experienced (and successful professional fighters, at that) who are very intentional about passing down their knowledge and wisdom of martial arts (this is in context of both competition, as well as self defense). One other thing that I appreciate is their openness to beginners. From my experience, I notice that most gyms want already-experienced people for the sake of using them for competition. But the truth is, those types of gyms don't do well in helping beginners. I've seen beginners come in, get good attention, and eventually spar with old-timers with success. It's a testament to the coaches' willingness to invest in people. Coaches Miguel and Gregory are a credit to the gym's success and growth in membership. Lastly, this gym has something that no other gym has: a good wrestling program. Coach Kenny is a wonderful, successful and experienced coach. He's coached UFC fighters to become champions. That should say enough. So in conclusion, I recommend and endorse this gym to anyone wanting to learn Muay Thai, BJJ, and/or wrestling. read more

I've been coming here for over two years mostly for the jiu jitsu. Luiz Panza is the current coach. It's been a great place to train and there's a good family atmosphere along with good competitiveness. It's not uncommon to see some top level international MMA and jiu jitsu players roll through. They also have Wrestling taught by Kenny Johnson, Karate by Chinzo Machida and Muay Thai by Daniel Worin. Look these guys up. Having so much under one roof saves you from having to drive across town to different training centers. If you're the type who doesn't like the white knuckle commute and have work/life balance issues, it's great having this convenience. read more

My family has been coming here for almost 4 years. My son started kids classes here at that time and then my husband started taking some of the adult classes. Now he comes 5-6 times a week. My daughter had been wanting to start classes like her brother when she was 2 (she had to wait until she was a little older). Now she is hooked and wants to spend ALL her time here. I was taking the womens classes but hurt my foot :/ (will be back soon :) Needless to say, we are here ALL the time. If you've wanted to try out mma, jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, wrestling or karate, the pros and the guys in the classes are super nice and helpful. There's a variety of classes Monday-Saturday, open mat at various times/days and on Sunday. Often times, pros and top level fighters stop in to train. I highly recommend coming in and trying them out. read more

The people are great and the classes are amazing. It's truly a home felt environment and the vibe a is a lively vibe. The people are highly respectful. I personally recommend coming to train at blackhouse cuz that's where it's happening. Also if ur interested in karate then this is the perfect place to come to cuz the Machidas have a great mind set and mentality of traditional karate while at the same time making it ideal for self defense. read more

I currently began taking jujitsu course at this establishment as well as Karate Machida courses and I can not expressed how pleased I am. Not only do you train with well trained professionals but there humbleness is truly extraordinary. The degree of respect they carry for one another in combination with their humbleness is a complete culture shock. I would definitely recommend this gym to anyone. read more

My son has been training at Black House for 2 years under the guidance of Master Roger Dalbianco. Within 6 months he placed 1st in both Gi and No-Gi at the LA Open beating 7 competitors (winning 6 by submission). He later took 2nd in Worlds...twice! I'm a lifelong martial artist and looked at all the schools between PV and MB, and found Black House to be the best place for my son and quite frankly adults as well. The trainers are top-notch! It doesn't get much better...from the owners Kenny Johnson (7x US Olympian), Ricardo Arrivabene (BJJ Champion), Coaches: Luiz Panza (World No-Gi Champion (2016), Pan American Champion (2016/2014)) , Roger Dalbianco (3rd degree Black Belt), Eduardo Pamplona (Muay Thai), and Miguel Jacob (Kick boxing). Best of all, every one is very humble and nice. A true House of Lions! Thank you Black House for welcoming my son, Mark, and giving him the gift of Jiu-jitsu! Oss!!! read more
