Reese was amazing for my first class introduction for woman empowerment despite having a bad hip she was able to work with me she was very patient, kind, and very informative I was very nervous during class. I took the beginners' class with Renner, and he was absolutely fantastic. His instructions were super clear, and his positive, encouraging energy made it easy to lean into a beginner's mind. I walked in for the free trial knowing almost nothing about BJJ. I just wanted something physical, social, and mentally engaging all at once. Staff remembered I was a first-time guest and made me feel welcomed right away, which makes a huge difference when you're new and a little nervous. What surprised me most was how much the experienced members invested in helping me. People stepped in mid-drill to give pointers, added their own tips on top of the lesson, and the instructor actively told everyone to read their partner and adjust intensity, so as a beginner you're not getting steamrolled. A few other things I appreciated: - The instructor demos moves from multiple angles so the whole room gets a clear view - Members get access to an online course library, so you can prep before class A couple of practical notes: the facility is clean, locker rooms and bathrooms included. If you live in the South Bay, there really is no better place to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. When I had my first class here, Rener Gracie personally guided me through mount escapes. At Gracie University, you get to learn armbars, chokes, and triangles directly from the Gracie Family. The biggest strength here is the learning environment/focus of this facility. At smaller gyms, you go directly into wrestling and grappling with more experienced teammates. At Gracie University, their entry level "Gracie Combatives" program focuses on mastery of 36 fundamental techniques before you grapple with people. If you want to write a sentence, you have to learn the alphabet first. To some who want to start grappling immediately, this could be considered a negative; however, I really appreciated their approach to teaching. To women who are interested in self-defense, they have a women-only program that focuses on fundamentals that prep you for the "gracie combatives" program. It's quite practical and I think it's really great. Rener and Ryron Gracie also host many seminars at this location for guests from all over the world. They've increasingly had more workshops for police officers and medical health professionals to improve awareness of positioning and control in order to reduce the incidence of excessive force in both of these areas. I would love for my hospital to invest in this type of education for my colleagues as workplace violence in hospitals is becoming more prevalent. Even though I no longer come here for classes, I appreciate what I learned from them, and I'd recommend it to anyone who is willing to learn BJJ. read more

Last July I took the free Women Empowered Seminar. It was a very positive and eye-opening experience. We learned some basic self-defense moves, and the most interesting thing was learning that my instinctual responses to the scenarios presented, were actually the opposite of what would work to defend myself. I began taking the Women Empowered classes, and as with any new skill, there's a learning curve, however Gracie University has an organized training system which allows you to learn and practice the basic skills. Also the Gracie University Online classes allow you to review what you've learned in class and prepare for upcoming classes. Rener, Eve, Sam, Bobbie and Renee are all excellent instructors, always patient and encouraging. Their enthusiasm and passion for teaching inspires the entire community, as seen by the many WE pink belts who work with white belt members, to help us learn and perfect our technique. My two grandsons recently joined Mat Munchkins and Little Champs, and they are having a great time not only learning skills, but also learning to listen, focus and be responsible. They're constantly asking to watch their jiu jitsu videos and love to practice at home! Gracie University itself is a beautiful facility, very spacious and clean. Enrolled my 7 year old last week bc of the anti bullying program they offer. Was a bit skeptical that my son would want to even try. Robert at the front desk was very polite friendly, and informative. He had broke down how the 10 day free trial worked as well as the monthly membership . Within minutes he had my son all decked out in his gi ready for the mat. Class was fairly large with the amount of kids. However with the number of instructors per kids surprisingly it was all under control . I must say Im very happy that I got my son into this .
