Small bakery with great pita bread and delights. Baklava is divine too.

I was in Kanata and after searching for restaurants nearby, found out that there was a PiRho Grill…read moreon Hazeldean Road. I've been wanting to try PiRho Grill for the longest time. I am a sucker for create your own bowls filled with veggies and sauces. I looked over the menu beforehand and had an idea of what I wanted. My husband was not too familiar with this place, so he just followed my lead. We were both greeted right away when we walked into the very clean restaurant. Service was friendly, and the staff was super patient and walked us through everything. We both settled on the grain bowl. I topped mine with tzaziki, spicy harissa, shredded lettuce, red cabbage, red beet quinoa, pickled peppers, pickled onion and tomato and cucumbers. I got the vegan option for protein which is the zucchini fritters, and topped it all off with lemon tahini thyme dressing. I also got a side pita and a vegan granola ball for the kid. I found the bowl OK. It was very pretty, but I am not sure if I did my best creating it. It was missing some acidity and nothing really stood out. I would skip the spicy harissa next time as I was not a fan of it. I also did not like the zucchini fritters, which I was so looking forward to trying. On a positive note, the red beet quinoa was amazing. My hubby had the same thoughts about his bowl and was not wow'd. The star of the show was that pita. It was fresh and chewy. I think next time I go, I will try out a wrap.

I still remember when I discovered the original PiRho Grill down in Barrhaven 4 years ago. I…read moreabsolutely loved it. The whole "salad/grain bowl movement" was new to Ottawa and the Mediterranean flair of PiRho Grill reeled me in. I spoke with Tom, one of the owners, and even back then he was thinking of opening up multiple locations. I urged him to open one in Westboro, but it hasn't happened yet (Tom, if you're reading this, please think about it, the only salad place I have in my 'hood is Freshii, of which I am not a fan. I don't like tasteless and spongy chicken, please help me out! Lol). Anyway, they opened up the location downtown on Elgin next, then this one on Hazeldean in Kanata. Maybe it's because the Barrhaven location was where I had my first taste of PiRho Grill and thus has a special place in my heart, but I found the food not as flavourful at this Kanata location. It's still really good, and in my opinion so much better than the national chains of salad places, just not as good as the Barrhaven location ;) I had the salad bowl ($12.25) and chose a mix of all the greens. For my dips I got the eggplant one and the red pepper hummus. For my protein I got half chicken and half baked zucchini cakes (so I got 1 cake). For toppings I got cucumber and tomato salad, roasted beet quinoa, red cabbage and crumbled feta. I was really tempted to get the pita crisps because they are really good, but I'm trying to limit my carbs and reduce my gluten intake, albeit to the chagrin of my taste buds. For the dressing, I got it on the side and I got the yogurt dill, which tastes a little like tzatziki. Service was friendly and efficient. During this Covid-19 Pandemic staff were wearing masks. We were in Stage 3 of re-openings so indoor dining was allowed and their indoor dining space was open. They also have patio seating. I took my food to go and did my favourite thing: ate in my car! Yep, the secret's out, I love eating alone in my car parked in a parking lot or on the street. I did this long before the Pandemic, I just appear less weird doing it now! If I really like ya, I'll invite you to eat in my car with me, but this invitation has been extended to very few people (and now with the Pandemic even less people, lol). Alright, enough about me and my idiosyncrasies, back to the restaurant... So the restaurant is in a plaza with lots of free parking. It's in the same plaza as Chocolats Favoris, Starbucks, and Farm Boy. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Kanata and like salad or grain bowls. They have wraps as well!

Technically that makes it a 3.5; I could live with that. I like this place so much that I'm surprised I haven't written a review for it yet! Let's remedy that now... We usually get one of their skewer platters (souvlaki), and we tend to rotate between the chicken, pork, beef, or lamb. The salad is not gargantuous, but big enough, and tasty too and contains lettuce, a couple of slices of wedgie tomatos, a couple of black olives with pits still in them, feta cheese, and onions. The chicken souvlaki I had was very tasty and I LOVED the tzatziki! There was plenty of rice, and a couple of potato halves. This meal is filling enough and comes to about $11 per person. Bonus: You save the nearly $2 delivery charge by picking up the order yourself. They do have a few tables for 2 or 4 people if you did want to eat in, but mainly their biggest business is their take out service/delivery. We've eaten here often, and will definitely be back again.

Bad judgement prevents them from chanhgig what most are complaining about. Not a good sign. I should have read more into that. We persisted on a paper menu of which they have few copies so we were sharing with others. SLOW service. Decent kabobs but should be for pork and chicken 5 bites of meat for $8. Lamb $11. The Greek vegetable salad elsewhere I normally LOVE. Reviewed with them that it was no lettuce and the usual veg. BUT at home we had a styrofoam box filled with UNripe tomaoto quarters, 30 of them, 4 round rings or red onion, 4 olives, and 4 1 inch thin slices of feta cheese. Good dressing but really no salad to put it on. Threw most f the tomatoes out,m and had a few bites of the salad, but it hadn' sufficient ingredients to be enjoyable - or nutritious. WASTE of money. 3 small pieces of spanokopita were tasty. In all for $58, not enough to eat and very ordinary. We should have used the crazy fast menu board as our warning that common sense is lacking here throughout. We won't return.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised for a few things at this location: for one thing, the restaurant is really big - much bigger than the old location! Secondly, we were looking for an open restaurant with electricity during the aftermath of the derecho, when so many of us were without power for days. Busters filled the gap! It was mid-afternoon, around 2:30pm, and although it was busy, it was not over the top. The server was friendly and informative. The third thing that really surprised me was the live 12-piece band, playing "swing" music! It was great fun!! I'm really glad to see Busters is still around, and I'd certainly like to go back.

I missed going for a couple of weeks, and it gave me the winter BLAHs! LOL!! So, it's time to cheer up. This is not the biggest Farm Boy, but it's one of the older ones. I like that they sell things here that are not found elsewhere. And they offer a salad bar (presumably by weight), that looks intriguing, with wonderful large olives, and a variety of other fresh ingredients. I like their deli counter. You can get a sample items as you go along. I got slices of salami and wasn't sure which one to get, so I asked for a sample of that, and they gave it to me... Glad I asked too, because it was spicier than I would have liked! Farm Boy also makes their own versions of things, like a tasty, thick egg nog. There's a $1 surcharge for the bottle, which you get back when you return it empty. That's a nice touch! They also make house-brand salad dressings, and different oils which would make nice gifts. And generally every week I come back to see what flowers they have on display!! (Or that humongous pumpkin they are likely to have, leading up to Halloween. Watch for it!) So, I'll be back.

I actually think I've had it once before, but that would've been 15ish years ago so I think enough time has passed haha I also had it topped with shrimp, which I don't think the Works even has anymore as an ingredient. I chose a sesame multi-grain and upgraded to a Kobe-style wagyu beef patty, bun and sweet potato fries with a side of Beechhouse sauce. As you can imagine, this order was quite expensive, since the Works burgers are already pretty pricey. The sweet potato fries were worth the upgrade, in my opinion, especially with the extra Beechhouse sauce for dipping. They were crispy, not too greasy or salty, and there were plenty. I always love their unique Beechhouse sauce and it's perfect with the sweet potato fries instead of mayo or ketchup. I know it has carrots in it because you can see the small shreds, but it's not like a carrot dip (ha!); I just find it really flavourful. The burger was good, but I wish I had just ordered the standard Canadian beef patty. My husband ordered it and his was less done than mine, which I liked better. My patty was smaller and more cooked, which made it drier and bit less flavourful, in my opinion. The Beechhouse sauce and avocado helped the dryness of the patty, and the crumbled feta added that bit of salty flavour. The tartness of the few sun-dried tomatoes brightened it up a bit and wasn't overpowering. I also got a Caesar that was the daily special and it was good. The food was made and presented well and service was friendly. I'm sure we'll be back here if we're craving the Works in the future.
