Joe worked with me for about a year, and I felt I could trust him. I eventually gave him $500 up front for a lesson package. He completed less than half of the lessons and stopped responding my my calls/texts. I went to confront him in person, and he refused to speak with me. I warned another patron of his poor business ethics and he said "I was no longer allowed on the premises." I have reported him to the better business bureau. Do not give this con artist a dollar. read more

The15 round boxing training structure designed by Joseph Stray consists of stretching, shadow boxing, heavy bag work, explosive interval training, mitt work, and muscular isolation training. Joseph Stray is an industry veteran with a background that includes more than 10 years in boxing, promotion, coaching, and leadership. As the owner of Syracuse Boxing LLC. He has earned a reputation for building and contributing to boxing and fitness programs that consistently generate outstanding results. He is noted for his motivational personality with an informed and direct coaching style. He has worked with companies including STAR Boxing, Mike Tyson Academy, Syracuse University, and Media 64 Entertainment group for Carmen Basilio's feature film.

Syracuse Boxing began at the collegiate club level and expanded into the Syracuse, New York community at the historic Pastime Athletic Club.

Meet the Business Owner: Joseph S.

A native of Syracuse, NY, Joseph Stray started his boxing career back in 2004. Initialing training at the Northside Boxing Gym and then transferring under the wing of legendary boxing coach Ray Rinaldi, Stray's career took him to the Olympic qualifiers. After years of training at the West Area Athletic and Education Center (formerly known as the Syracuse Golden Gloves), Stray enrolled in Syracuse University (SU 2010-2014) where he would take up Sociology as a major. During his time at SU, Stray started the Syracuse University's Boxing Club and organized the first boxing match on SU's campus since 1957. The event doubled as a boxing showcase and community outreach program, bringing together inner city youth with collegiate boxers as organizers of the event. From his academic and boxing career, Stray developed an interest in transference. His student-led boxing club embodied his theory that pugilism provides learning strategies for discipline and critical engagement--

Syracuse Boxing, organized and instructed by Coach Joe Stray, provides a comprehensive and complete Boxing experience for Syracuse, NY. Mr. Stray is experienced in both the competitive and fitness aspects of the sport, with many years of fighting experience. Mr. Stray brings a level of peer-motivation and professionalism to each training session, and I have never had an issue with scheduling sessions in my ongoing year of training with him. The sessions themselves are well-structured, and cumulative; providing newcomers with a technical foundation for Boxing, and slowly working towards more advanced techniques. Mr. Stray's newly-implemented 15-round training system is equal parts rigorous and rewarding, providing a nice balance between technical instruction and physical fitness. With one year of training under my belt, I have received numerous compliments on my boxing technique by other combat sport athletes and Boxing fans; technique that was provided exclusively by Syracuse Boxing. read more

Joe was a phenomenal teacher to my two young kids. Being a father himself, he had a knack for knowing how to get on their level and talk to them. My kids were always excited to go. With COVID, he was flexible and allowed us to do zoom and and even offered to come to us for less exposure. He really took his time to answer all questions and you could tell he thoroughly loves his job. Great prices too. After reading reviews and speaking to others in the community, Joe was a no brainer for us. We cant wait to see Joe when we return to NY to continue our training! read more

Joe Stray is a professional. I've only signed up for 4 sessions, but in just 3 I have already noted my form and technical ability improve. Not to mention my confidence. He's has done good things for me, hyping me up for my next fight. I have plans for invest in another 8 sessions with him. Programs like this in bigger cities, you could see prices much higher than what Joe is asking for. And it's totally worth it. I'd recommend him as a trainer to anyone looking to shapes their technique, learn basics, or get fight ready. read more

Syracuse boxing was good. I took a few lessons to start a new hobby. Joe was informative and knew his stuff. He was most certainly patient with me as I tried to figure out if this was for me. I learned some great skills and would def refer anybody to him in the future. Great guy. read more
