Ok, this is going to be a lengthy review! Sit tight…read more I left another practice in Anchorage because of miscommunication. I do not hide the fact that I am not a fan of dentist offices. What helps me with my anxiety is trust. I like to see the same person again and again. So, a little mix-up at previous office has caused me to no longer feel confident about the dentist. I figured I should empower myself to find an office that I can learn to trust practitioners again. Libby Group didn't have that much of review and that was my first doubt. But I am so happy to trust my instincts and some friends' word of mouth. I went for it and made an appointment. First, the office is really very cozy! They are not fancy with the TV and being able to watch Netflix while getting your teeth cleaned (like my previous office) but I have found that establishing trust and good relationship with my dentist to be much more important eventually! The office also has AMAZING view of mountains, OH MY! I thought that my first appointment would be an hour or less...WRONG! I filled out a very comprehensive personality traits questionnaire then was schooled very clearly about my oral health after examinations. They used a tiny camera to take pictures of my teeth and an iPad to explain what work needs to be done on that particular molars. I have never learned so much about my own oral health in one sitting. Enough to want to do better for myself. Dr. Libby is a tall, friendly, and warm lad that I have come to slowly trust. He openly admit that he will not be perfect but he will always try his best and that is enough. I asked them to keep the same people: assistant, hygienist, and doctor whenever I come in. They are happy to oblige to that. I have been there for three separate visits. Lastly, my few favorite things about the office: cool outdoorsy swags you get after your visit, not having to sit for long time in the lobby which makes my anxiety much worse, and staff greeting me in sign language whenever I come in! FYI: I currently see Nikki for my cleanings (this chick is awesome! I feel like she's on my team to help me have healthier gums) Dr. Libby as my DDS, and my all time favorite assistant Kristen who is an angel FYI. (She held my hand when I got a huge shot in my mouth)

I had my wisdom teeth removed here and the healing was quicker than I expected. I've also seen a few different providers and everyone has been kind and informative. They're good about explaining things--I've picked up better flossing habits over time. Cleanings are straightforward, fluoride is quick, and the view during appointments is a nice bonus. This office has been a really reliable place for dental care which is why I've stayed with them for so long.

The office was nice, the people were nice, the scheduling was very flexible, so when I finally became insured, I knew my teeth weren't in good shape, but I made an appointment to start what was sure to be a long dental journey. Boy was I wrong. The first thing was the cleanliness, or lack of. The chair/area I was seated in, was VERY dirty. The overhead light was completely covered with, IDK what you call it, when you floss and flecks of debris fly out of your mouth and hit the mirror, I am sure it has an official name, but whatever it is called, the light looked like it hadn't been wiped or washed in quite a long time. But then the hygienist kept touching the light to move it around, then kept putting her fingers in my mouth, to take an X-ray. And I know it must be a real pain to change gloves constantly, but you cannot go into the other room, use the computer and the keyboard, adjust the light, and touch God knows what else, and then put your fingers in my mouth. I was horrified and kept thinking to myself, this cannot be normal. The worst part, and the reason for the tears, was that I had been looking forward to going to the dentist for awhile. I had a few problems with different teeth, I definitely needed a cleaning, and I had very recently lost one of my front teeth in an accident, so I was very eager to make a plan for that. When the dentist came into the room, after looking at my X-rays, I was told that all they could and would do, is pull all of my teeth and give me dentures. I was in no way prepared to hear this news, and it very much devastated me. I asked about fixing the one missing tooth, and was told insurance wouldn't pay for it, since apparently dentures seemed to be my only option. But if I wanted to pay for it myself, I was quoted $1400. And that was it. No cleaning? Nope, not going to waste time cleaning your teeth when we are just going to rip them all out. Sadly, my experience was not at all was I had expected. My husband still goes, and has no problem. But me and my teeth have moved on to a place that let me keep my teeth.

Due to my avoidance of dental offices, i had 4 broken molars, where pieces had been crumbling off for the past few years, and it was only due to the fact that i started experiencing pain, that i forced myself to go. I had toothache, not agonizing, but moderate, for 5 full months before i plucked up the courage to call and make an appointment, and i was utterly terrified, let me tell you. I had my initial exam, and i was shaking in the chair. Having avoided treatment for 32 years comes with consequences, and as such i needed 5 fillings in my upper teeth, and the 4 broken molars - Dr. Kennedy recommended extraction under IV sedation, for which i was referred to Anchorage Oral and Implant Surgery. I was to come in the following day for my fillings, and i was told to come at 10, for a pre-med, as i had asked for one. By the time i went for the appointment at 10, i was somewhat calmer, and told Jordynn, i didn't think i needed the pre-med. She said I'd still be given the Nitrous Oxide, and as I didn't need the pre-med, i was to return at 11am, which I did. I had the Nitrous, and a couple of injections in my upper gums -- nice that they put a numbing jelly on, prior to injecting. However, the REAL injection - the one that prevented me from returning for treatment for 32 years, is the one that gets injected right into the hinge of your jaw, and feels like an electric shock - i was not required to have that one, fortunately. Dr Kennedy was very fast with my 5 fillings that i needed. It was all over with in less than an hour. A couple of weeks following the offending molars being extracted, i called the office, and asked when i needed to come in, and start work on a partial denture. Jordynn told me i needed to get my deep cleaning first. I was actually quite horrified when she mentioned that a deep cleaning requires numbing also. I did not know this, and i of course Googled what a deep cleaning entailed, and was even more anxious to read that they're going to use an ultrasonic THING to go below the gumline and break up calculus, that had been building for 32 years. Gross. I made my appointment and Erin was the hygienist. She did an examination where she went around prodding and dictating into a program, how receding my gums were. And then got started. To be fair, the upper right hand side of my teeth went fairly ok, and i couldn't really feel much, but it was very lengthy, took an hour and a half, and i believe the calculus was quite difficult to break down. We scheduled a second visit for the upper left, and this was more unpleasant. Erin had ordered a product containing sulphuric acid to help break down the calculus. SO that was a little less work. But 3 of the teeth refused to numb (And i had the maximum anesthetic, i think i had 6 or 7 in my gums and another 2 in the roof of my mouth) but these 3teeth just wouldn't numb for some reason. Anyway, we got them done, despite me jumping frequently. The bottom teeth - i had 1 wisdom tooth left on the left side - Erin came at me with the syringe, and. Stopped her and said "Is that THE injection?" Meaning the horrible one into jaw hinge. I told her, THAT injection had stopped me coming to dentist for 32 years. She said ok, and gave me gum injections instead, and it was fine, it didn't hurt. I had some sensitivity with my 2 bottom front teeth but we got there in the end. She is thorough, and the difference in my teeth (I was a former smoker, the backs of my teeth were brown, but are now white) is EPIC. I 100% recommend Erin, and Turnagain Dental, if you're a wimp like me.

I had the best, most thorough teeth cleaning in my life here. It was amazing. She did not rush and took her sweet time. 5 stars. My dentist actually sat down and talked with me for a good 20 minutes. He even talked about preventative care and my 5, 10, 20 year plan. Just so I would be aware that maybe in 10 years, I will need a crown. So, I guess I can start saving now - ha. I chatted with them on my tooth sensitivities and he gave me some prescription toothpaste on the house to try out. That was super nice. So, if you are looking for a nice place that takes their time with patients, come here. They have high Yelp reviews for a reason.

The day of my appointment I got called twice within two minutes of each other. Second thing is I Went in for a teeth cleaning and got told I needed different fillings cuz apparently my fillings were too big for my teeth (never an issue before) and got told I needed crowns and a root canal. After they did my X-rays the doctor looked at my teeth they told me that I needed the deep clean cuz of the way my teeth were and my gums were not healthy. Once again this has never been an issue before. The initial process they wanted to do was 5,000 that I would have to pay out of pocket. I said I didn't want to do that cuz I don't have that money to spend on dental work that doesn't need to be done. Then with the deep cleaning it was 335 that would be paid out of pocket. When I told them I wanted a basic cleaning I got told no and they refused to do it cuz it wouldn't help my teeth and gums get better. After awhile I said I would do one section of my mouth and be done. They had two different people come talk to to convince me I needed the deep clean and even the dentist lady tried to say the same thing. I was there for over an hour and a half from start to the time I left. Overall if I could give this place a 0 star I would. The place is shady and doesn't deserve business.
