Absolutely atrocious. Went inside to get a toy for my German Shepherd and walked into deplorable conditions for the dogs they so call claim to love. They are covered in feces, sleeping on wired flooring where they could easily get stuck, no beds, no food, and no water. The treatment of these poor puppies not even a few months old, is absolutely disgusting. The dogs are matted in their own vomit, pee, and feces. I watched a month old Dachshund puppy fall through the grates and have to attempt to get free. If the owner had to suffer through the repulsive nature that these animals are going through I'm sure he or she would view things a lot differently. read more

Easily the best petstore option in the area if you want to buy from somewhere that actually cares about their animals and sees them as more than profit-machines. They make sure that their larger birds go to experienced owners instead of just sending them off to any child-infested karen who asks like petco and petsmart tends to enjoy doing. not that theres anything wrong with giving birds to kids, but macaws in particular need calm, experienced owners. Also, they actually provide a decent rabbit setup. today I saw them offering a rabbit and its entire setup to go with it which was an actual appropriate rabbit pen instead of the little squished hutches petstores typically offer. Rabbits are actually more like dogs than other rodents and need ample space to run around in. The only reason I took one star off is because the reptile supply they offer is not a great selection to choose from, but It does offer some better products than petco, but not enough to really have a full setup. I guess all im saying is I wish they had more variety of equipment and products. But, the people who work with the reptiles are very experienced and actually offer good advice instead of the petco employees that will tell you to buy sand and those little tiny critter cages for your fricking bearded dragon. (dont buy those ever!! sand will kill a beardie) I come here every month to buy frozen rats for my snake and the rats always look healthy and beautiful, dont really smell like anything, and are a heck of alot cheaper than the petco or petsmart brand rodents, which are often just crammed in and smell really, really bad. They are cheaper and higher quality at sylvia's pets. my overall favorite thing about sylvia's pets, though, is the little orange cat that greets you when you come in. They have a cat that roams around the store who is very friendly. I was told that she was declawed when she was brought in, and the people at sylvia's didnt feel comfortable rehoming a declawed car, so they decided to just keep the cat in the store. also they have a dog now for some reason? Its an appropriately fat corgi (fat and cute but not like fat enough to be causing harm to the dog) I dont know how long the dog is staying but I fricking love it. I was in line to get rats and next thing I know this old man of a corgi comes waddling over with the cat in tow and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life I would take a bullet for those two. the appropriately fat corgi and the tiny orange cat are the stars of sylvia's pets. read more

Awesome pet store!! I've been working on setting up my first aquarium and the employees helped/encouraged me along every step of the process! At first. . I was skeptical of what appeared to be a hole in the wall pet shop from an outside point of view. The shop isn't run down looking or anything but it's just not what I'm accustomed to seeing which is really just petsmarts and Petco etc. Naturally you wonder about the quality of pets anywhere, this place was no different. After visiting three times with my girlfriend I'm a believer in this place, their staff is nice and helpful and animals seem to be of quality. They have had some really cute puppies here, and their prices are very good for a retail shop. They allow you to play with the puppies and get accustomed to them, which is critical in figuring out if the dog is right for you. Their setup is secure but laid back, it's very nice. They seem to have a vested interest in the animals which I appreciate because as a seller you have to find the balance. I'm impressed and we were so close to pulling a trigger on a beautiful puppy but will wait until she graduates from college at James Madison University. Their puppies are in gross little tanks and look so sad. Their bunny cage was also not clean. Very sad.

I ran in real quick one day after a friend recommended the store to me, and walked out later that day with a beautiful beagle pup for a great price. Our new baby Luna is very sweet and sociable, and the staff even cut her nails for me before we brought her home and got her her last dose of worm prevention and parvo shots! I'm extremely happy with our "purchase" and will be back in the future! read more

We bought a bird from this place 3 years ago, who is still alive and thriving at our home. When we got her, we were still relatively inexperienced. One of the employees; perhaps the boss; helped us out, but when she let said bird out she not only stuffed her in a way too small box, but also plucked her tail because it was raggedy (totally not necessary). The birds were all kept in subpar conditions, and I imagine the employees are not well versed in bird care. The tiels were always fighting and plucking eachother, all kept in one place with no perches and minimal toys. The finches didn't get much more than a swing. They were all kept on a 100% seed diet as well. A place with such horrible bird care shouldn't sell them. read more

I am so impressed with this pet shop. I just picked up a cockatiel from here for my 9 year old. I originally picked out a different one at the beginning of this week to pick up later in the week. The woman at the shop started working with it but realized this one would need more work and may not be appropriate for a younger child. So she started to work with another one, and he is a total sweetheart. I was so happy that she took the time to do that for me. read more

Very disappointed in this business they seem to pride themselves as not just animal lovers but quality in a their staff and store, I'm a single mom of four and I work hard for my money not only did they sell us a pair of viscous Geunia pigs insisted they were bonded but they refuse to take them back after just a day or two then had the nerve to tell my 11 year old we can take them back but not your money! They tested her as if she weren't a pet owner or a customer I'm very disappointed these people are looking to make a quick buck not to actually help you or your pets read more

Good prices, but the dog I got from there has worms real bad. It's a common thing and supposedly was treated for it. But the size of these worms there is no way they did any treatments for the dog. So we started over with all vaccines and worming meds with our own vet. If you don't mind any of this then by all means check them out. read more

My "go to" pet store for pet info. employees are knowledgeable and if they don't know the answer they find out for you and don't give the wrong information like I experienced so often at other pet stores. I always end up coming back for the service. read more

This place would've been great to play with puppies but the 2 girl employees who were working in there today were very rude and unhelpful. They told us we could go outside and play with the puppies just to get out there to the fence being locked and they wouldn't come unlock it. Had to go up to them just to get them to notice we were in the store. Sad when all those dogs want to do is to be played with and they're too lazy to let that happen. read more
