Worms in dog food, animals unwell and not well cared for, dirty store, long wait for employe help they hide in the back room

I had my 1 year old dog there 2 other times, and it went fine. But this time following his grooming appointment, I got him home and he had a puncture on his hind leg near his tail. 24 hours later he is at the Vet getting meds for infection. I will never go back there again. Poor puppy!!!!! I know things happen, but this was a spot that the groomer would have been aware of and she said NOTHING. read more

I can't believe so many bad reviews... We started taking our toy poodle, Pooh, to get groomed here and they do an AMAZING job! They did a wonderful German Cut on my poodle and she's so soft and fluffy. She looks amazing! I took her to the Pet Smart in town a month before this and they did a horrible job! Happy we finally found a groomer in town that's good! Very happy with the service at the salon, they must have taken these reviews and feedback and changed a lot because we didn't experience anything bad from this location. Not sure what the customer service is like in the store, but the groomers are superb! read more

Displease with the store, I have bought reptiles from this store in the past and was able to handle them to get a feel for its temperament was. Today I was prepared to spend $500+ on a couple reptiles and supplies for them but upon asking to see them was told "we don't really allow handling". So I will be taking my business elsewhere. Because I'm a firm believer to tell if it will suit you, you must be able to hold/handle them. If your employees were scared of touching it then say so because I would have handled it for them. read more

I would give them zero stars if I could. Brooke is the worst!!! See other reviews about her. Lazy, rude, snide, and borderline abusive to customers and animals. Very unpleasant expensive experience. I tried them twice and both times was greeted with rude demeaning delivery of how she would groom and trim to then manhandle the fur babe. Brooke demeans you and is condescending in how she treats you and your animal when asking about them looking weird, shaving lengths, etc. if you were good at your job you wouldn't need the level map dear!after reluctantly leaving my dog there after he begged me to not leave him (should have known) got a call 20 minutes saying she is discontinuing service bc she shaved his ears and he attempted to bite her. A. Never heard that in the 5 years he's been getting groomed B. He has barely shy teeth now. Is Brooke trying to lose Petco money bc she is doing a hell of a job. Brooke needs to find new job that doesnt involve people or animal interaction. Other locations of Petco have been much nicer and better quality. If you're paying these prices you shouldn't need to be treated like shit and have your pet abused too. read more

Petco sells expired dry dog food with bugs. Nightmare at Petco again! Got a store credit $35 instead of my money back for their overpriced in-store items (they lie on the phone, there's no matching online prices with receipt)... Go back and bought a 30-pound $82 bag of Nutro dog food, get out to my car and it was covered with mealy bugs, checked the expire date and sure enough it expired 6 months ago, go back inside the store, grabbed another bag of the same Nutro that had not expired. I bring it to the cashier, got refunded for first bug bag, and for the exact same product - I owe $10.53. Same item. Why? Turns out the $10 I earned on my Petco card got "used up" when they took back the first mealy bug bag. Why didn't they just give me the 2nd bag hassle free? I said No, give my full refund to my Visa card before I rip open this bag of dog food and throw it all over the store. Yes, I actually said that. She says, Madam I'm trying to help you- same manager Kelly Ortega who ripped me off the first time. I ended up buying canned cat food to be safe. Petco sells expired food loaded with bugs. This store is dangerous. The whole world needs to know Petco has gotten this bad. read more

Please do not take your animals to this petco in harrisonburg va . A lady by the name of Brooke that is supposed to be a groomer jerked my dog to the ground with her leash to inspect my doggie. My dog was very scared an skittish when I picked her up and Brooke said my dog couldn't return because of behavior issues. My dog is very well behaved an very well trained. Worst customer service I have ever encountered!! Young blonde girl at register and after 15 minutes of looking for what I needed I went and asked her for help! Her answer to me was 'Did you look'? What kind of service is that??? Petco Review This review is about the grooming salon, and my experience with Brooke. -- After many bad experiences in a row followed by a blow-up from Brooke today, despite having gone to Petco for grooming for 2.5 years, I'm unfortunately going to have to stop going to Petco for grooming services. For months, Brooke has been making snide remarks about my dog during nail trimmings. "You're being so bad." "What is wrong with you today?" "You're being totally crazy," she says to Hana all throughout the groom. Mind you, Hana is actually not THAT bad for having her nails trimmed. She cries during the whole groom. (But she never barks or growls.) She sometimes pulls her feet away. (But never bites.) She sometimes thrashes for a few seconds. (But always calms down after a few seconds.) That's something that makes it difficult for me to do nails at home, but should be pretty far for the course for a grooming salon. If she was a perfect angel with nails, I wouldn't be there in the first place. I'd be doing them at home. Additionally, a large part of the reason why my dog is so anxious for nail trims is because of Petco's own policy that she isn't allowed to take her anxiety medication within 24 hours of the groom. She takes this medication daily. Her normal brain chemistry is off. She'd probably be anxious even if we were just sitting at home. I understand it's a policy and Brooke can't change that. But it's frustrating for her to make snide comments at my dog when we are both just doing our best under their policy. After my last groom, I had finally had enough of Brooke's remarks. After each groom, Petco sends a "please rate the quality of your service today" email. It's private, and doesn't appear publicly. I wrote a polite but honest review of my experiences with Brooke. After that, I honestly kind of forgot about it. Today, I had a lot of grooming related questions for her. I wanted to ask about Hana's coat, concerns I had with it, ask about product recommendations. I was ready to move on and wanted her expertise. But I didn't have any chance for that. As soon as I walked in and said hello, Brooke, in an uncharacteristically harsh tone immediately says "So what was wrong with last time?" I was super taken off guard. I wasn't expecting a direct confrontation and especially not in this tone. I respond "Well, I uhm... every time we come, you make so many comments about how bad Hana is. We are just doing out best and it sucks to hear you say that every single time." Obviously I have a lot more reasons but I was so shocked I couldn't articulate everything immediately. Brooke's demeanor becomes even more tense, and she says, "Okay, well, it's my job as a groomer to let you know how your dog is behaving during grooms." There's SO much wrong with this. (1) I'm standing right there the entire time, I can see how Hana is doing during her grooms. (2) Brooke isn't making these comments to me, she's looking at my dog and saying them to my dog. (3) If she was genuinely trying to 'let me know' how my dog is doing, she should come up to me and speak with me directly. And it should be "she's being so bad / what's wrong with her / she's being crazy". It should be polite and professional like "Hey, I noticed that your dog is anxious during grooms. Have you considered speaking to a trainer about this?" or "Your dog seems very sensitive about having her feet touched. I recommend you watch some videos about desensitizing your dog to feet touching for grooming."I wanted to tell her that, but Brooke was being so tense and defensive. She doesn't seem open to having a conversation with me at all. She has at no point apologized for anything. She was only seemed interested in defending herself instead of rectifying the situation. I said in a very sheepish voice, "I mean... it seems like you're just interested in telling me why I'm wrong, and I really don't want to argue about it. So let's just leave it there." (I admit that wording was a little rude. I think I wanted to say "You don't seem interested in having an open discussion" but again I was so shocked I couldn't find the right words.)She says, "I don't want to argue either. If you don't want me to groom her anymore I can cancel the appointment." When I tell her I want to move forward with today she says "Do you want me to cancel her future appointments?" To me this is sending the message that she's not willing to work with me to find common ground, to rectify the situation. She seems like she doesn't want to work with me if I'm not happy with her demeanor exactly as it is. She's happy to throw away a 2.5 year client just over a mid-grade internal review I left. We went through with the service for the day but I will not be going back. read more

We took our dog to the Petco in Harrisonburg, Va. to get some glucosamine chews. We checked their website and it said that they were open from 9 to 7 Mon - Fri. As we tried to get in, we and two other potential customers, found the door locked at 6:08pm. That is a bad mistake on their part. They should have at least posted this change on their website!! They never update their hours. They are constantly changing but the only way you would know that is from actually showing up to their stores. They have super conservative republican employees (which to each their own) but this employee never lets you forget it.. like jeeze lady can I just buy my cat food? They are constantly short staffed which means management probably sucks and pet co doesn't pay a living wage. Get it together. read more

I would HIGHLY recommend that you take your dog anyplace except for this location. They are rude. They do not appear to have any compassion for a terrified older dog. There was no evidence that they should be considered groomers. This was my 2nd disgraceful experience with them. We will not return for any reason. read more

Been taking my dog here for 2 years for grooming with no issues. Groomers have always been friendly and do a good job. Now, however, they have an employee on maternity leave. Before that she was on weight lifting restriction. Even with several months to prepare for a pregnant employee to be out on leave management apparently has made no effort to find someone to fill the gap. Some days they have no one in the grooming salon at all; and when someone is there, IF you can get them on the phone (rarely) appointments have to be scheduled about 3 weeks out. This is not good customer service, and i will be looking for a new groomer for my dog. read more

Petco's Grooming Department is GREAT - specifically Shannon Bishop. I will not let anyone else groom my Shih Tzu but Shannon. Jeter LOVES Shannon & the feelings are reciprocated. Shannon is the only one Jeter allows (reluctantly) to scissor cut his face. Shannon is diligent about checking Jeter's skin & uses products that won't aggregate his sensitive skin. I highly recommend the grooming department. read more

I went there to get cat food and other stuff. Petco is pushy bordering on bullying. The Petco website demanded that I allow it to see my location which I do not plan to give it. But the f...g thing sits on my browser and blocks me from using my computer. apparently they found some a- l programmer who came up with idiot idea that they will bully the prospective customer until they give they give them their address. I had to reboot my computer to get rid of the block of my browser. I think they are about to go out of business which is when companies start bully customers in the hope of getting some money out of of customer but instead p----g them off. I am sorry I wanted to like the store but doing dirty tricks is a no go. If your VP of marketing contacts me here and apologizes to me profusely I will then reconsider the rating. The browser block has two buttons, right give them your address and left do not give them your address. Except the left has no function. You can not get rid of it. Like I said -- I had to reboot. I've been going to the store location for almost a year an haven't had a problem until today. I purchased clippers to cut my puppies hair and opened the packaging to find USEED clippers with some of the items missing. There was hair in between the razor and all over the container. They were very nice about replacing it but it shouldn't of happened in the first place. read more

I received a phone call when my dog was finished with the grooming department. Upon my arrival I found the department to have the lights off and had closed up for the day with my dog still in the cage and his paperwork on the counter. When I went to the sales clerk they knew nothing about it, didn't know my dog was in there, and made no apologies for the situation. I will not use them again. Very unprofessional. read more

I have used the groomer here for my senior dog for a while now and on 1/20/21 I was informed of a new policy upon arriving for the appointment and was refused service. This "new policy" states that if the dog has any preexisting health conditions that I have to contact my vet and get a letter sent to the groomer stating that it is safe to groom him. While I can understand the precautions I also sign off on a form already as is every time I have brought him as well as them already knowing about his minor health issues. While speaking and trying to understand why and what one of the two staff members became short which escalated my irritation to shout and make my way to the door. As I turned for the door one of the girls apologized for the inconvenience, to then be shushed by the other saying VERY loudly "don't apologize to her, she's an idiot". I am a retired senior citizen and I have never in my life been treated like that. read more

I got my pet bird here, a parakeet. The birds were very cheap I can't remember if they were $5 or $15 but $15 is still cheap although the woman who helped us lied to us she said that parakeets love play pals this is not true because my male parakeet killed my female parakeet we were disappointed that my bird killed my other bird. Though the birds were cheat the cages and the food and treats were not $30 for the cage $4 for the food and $5 for the treats. I didn't like that their wings were clipped I get why but they can never be a true bird although their wings were clipped we taught my bird how to fly with clipped wings. Overall great place to get your kids, or someone you know a pet. read more

Eli at the fish/aquarium department is by far the most knowledgeable person in regards to aquariums. He is very knowledgeable not only in freshwater but also saltwater fish care and everything. If you ever go in there, ask for Eli. He does get busy because everyone asks him a lot of questions and he takes his time to answer every single one, but you won't regret getting his help and advice. read more

The last two times I've bought pet food at Petco, I've been charged a higher price than what was shown in the store. The displayed sale price for the bag of dog food that I bought was $24.99, and the price I was charged was $29.99. I should have checked the receipt before I left, knowing that the same thing happened the previous time I shopped there also, but unfortunately didn't see it until I got home I certainly won't trust these people again. read more
