We were patients of Dr Alam for many years. He's a great doctor, but over the years (most notably from 2020 on) his staff has become lazy, incompetent, and some downright lie and are rude. We haven't been able to get in to see Dr. Alam for well over a year (at least). He has been out of the office and his stand in doctor is also very knowledgeable, however you will absolutely wait in the waiting room at least an hour to be seen. Costco calls them for refills and they ignore it every time until I call them directly and push to get medications filled. The staff acts like they own the practice and make all the decisions. It's obvious no doctor is really running that office. I watched a couple staff members speak to the stand in doctor so disrespectfully! I was shocked. I have worked with doctors and would never dream of talking like that to them. I once called with a potentially serious medical issue and needed answers right away (and stated the seriousness). I called a second time after waiting for hours and still no help. I called our cardiologist office for help at 430 pm and they said they would get back to me. They called me a few times in between to let me know they were working on it, even after 630 pm they contacted me with the answer. Dr. Alam's office, despite the seriousness of my call, NEVER called me back. My husband had a check up with blood work and everything but needed a surgery clearance for another doctor. I called to request the clearance ASAP as it was 2 weeks to the surgery and they wouldn't schedule the surgery until they had the clearance. It took the full 2 weeks (calling every day, multiple times) and actually going to the office and sitting there while they got the clearance signed. We have since switched physicians where our health needs and concerns are met and the staff is competent. I would never again recommend this office. read more

I am writing to express my serious concerns and frustration regarding the way your office has handled my appointments and specialist referrals. Unfortunately, the repeated errors and lack of communication have been extremely disruptive, unprofessional, and costly for me. First, I was not properly notified that one of my appointments had been canceled. I subsequently went into the office and was scheduled for a telehealth appointment for the following day by a young gentleman with long hair. Based on the information provided to me, I arranged my schedule and took time away from work to attend that appointment. I was then informed that I had the wrong date and that the appointment was actually scheduled for another day. What was particularly frustrating was being told that I was somehow confused about the date. I find that explanation difficult to accept. Why would I take time off from work and rearrange my schedule for an appointment on the wrong date; especially two days in a row? I consider myself more than capable of understanding the days of the week, dates, and appointment times. The issue here was not my ability to understand a calendar; it was the conflicting and inaccurate information provided by your office. In addition, my referrals to the specialists I need to see have still not been properly processed. This creates further delays in receiving the care I need and adds to the overall frustration with the situation. I understand that mistakes can happen, but these are not minor inconveniences. Taking time off from work has a direct financial cost to me, and having to do so unnecessarily because of scheduling errors particularly two days in a row is unacceptable. I should not have to bear the financial and personal consequences of repeated administrative mistakes made by your office. At this point, I am asking that you please take a serious look at what is happening within your office. There clearly needs to be better communication, additional staff training, and/or a more reliable system for scheduling, canceling appointments, communicating appointment dates, and processing referrals. Patients should not be receiving conflicting information or having to repeatedly follow up to ensure that basic administrative matters are handled correctly. I am bringing this directly to your attention because I hope you are able to provide your staff with the support, training, and oversight necessary to prevent these issues from continuing. read more

Love Dr Alam! Great dr & staff. Insurance changed & he is no longer in my network. Sad I am not able to continue with Dr Alam read more

Office staff were terrible! They ran his office. I told Dr. Alam about them, but he only made excuses for them. I was a patient under his care for 18 years! But could not deal with his staff anymore. What a shame... read more

Been with the doctor for 10 years plus he decided to stop taking patients called multiple office to get referrals never heard a call back never heard from him again very disappointed no real consider it seems about his patience's health disappointed in his new office management. They are new they don't have any idea what they're doing or how to treat patients, but I would have appreciated a phone call. He has taken care of my whole family for years and it's disappointing to hear that he treats patients like this. I understand things happen but when your a Dr you have a publication of a standard care to provide to your patients. So disappointing read more

The office and billing staff are incompetent- I paid a bill at the end of January, have proof of it being cashed early February, and yet I've received 2 bills showing an overdue balance. Calls go to voicemail, nobody calls me back and a visit to the office to inquire resulted in front desk saying "just ignore the bill". They said their billing staff is behind, and the cashed & canceled check just hasn't been posted to the bill. My bill says overdue-I'm not suppose to be concerned? Office staff took a photocopy of the proof of cancelled check, but could not give me a receipt showing zero balance. Do not see this doctor! read more

I need to reschedule an appointment for my 92 year old mother. I've been calling his office number for 2 days. Of the 42 attempts, they answered 4 times with "Dr Alam's office please hold" and immediately put on hold. I hold for an average of 10 to 15 minutes and the call disconnects. All of the other calls ring and ring and ring but no one answers, no "leave a message" nothing. I've spent hours on the phone and nothing. His website says you can schedule an appointment on line but that's not true, you can't. Dr Alam my bee an excellent Doctor but his office staff is horrible. read more

I have been with Dr Alam for over a year now. I throughly enjoyed how he answered all my questions on my first visit and left me with a wonderful impression of how doctors should be. He was ill for over 6 months and I saw Dr Sarrafian who was also different but thorough. My issue is when calling the office. On most Mondays they don't seem to answer the phone nor is there an answering service. Dr. Alam has comeback in late December 2025 and I was thrilled to see him again! His office staff needs to be more receptive on answering phone calls. read more

Dr. Alam is an amazing doctor. Right now he's not well and I pray for full recovery. Since he's been gone due to illness his office isn't running right, they never answer the phone, the Doctor filling in for him isn't following his routine and with them not answering the phone, you can't get your medications filled in a timely manner. Which could be dangerous for people's health. read more

Dr Alam is a great a caring doctor. He has taken care of family for over a decade and is one of the very few doctors I've seen, personally truly care for his patients. I've seen him care deeply about the wellbeing of everyone under his care. However, since there have been unexpected changes within his office, the staff has not been of very much help if any at all. We've had trouble with prescriptions being written, phone calls going unanswered for days as we sit on the phone for 40+ minutes to hours throughout the day trying to reach someone in the office. Phone will ring and ring and is not reasonable for a patient under his care that is in need of something and cannot physically make it down there every time the phone is not answered. Staff is not familiar with patients, their profiles, or their needs. The staff at his previous location took care of everything properly and in a timely manner for Dr Alam and his patients. I've heard other patients in the office have this same issue and it's concerning. Most of his patients are elderly and/or disabled and in need of proper treatment from the establishment as Dr Alam does his best but the staff not so much. Current staff does not have the urgency or compassion for his patients, most of which have been with him for a long period of time. We love Dr Alam and are so grateful he is back and feeling better, but are so disappointed with his office staff as of lately. This will not deter us from seeing him, but is definitely a problem we hope to see resolved soon. read more

It has been over four years since I wrote my initial review of Dr. Alam. Since then, he has moved to a new facility, added new imaging (CT scan) equipment, has X-ray capabilities on-site, has an urgent care facility (Atlas Urgent Care) in the facility, and has partnered with Dr. Goyal in the practice. Dr. Alam has single-handedly kept my mother alive for many years longer than expected. She has seen Dr. Alam for well over 20 years, as both a pulmonologist and primary care doctor. She is grateful to have Dr. Alam for these roles. My brother and I have also seen Dr. Alam for many years as our primary care doctor, and will continue to stay with him. We have positive experiences with his staff as well. Dana has been wonderful in working with us. We always are able to reach out to them when we have a medical need or question, and they ask Dr. Alam and get back to us. The only negative thing is that he is very busy with a large patient base. It is hard to get an appointment within a month or so. That is not really their fault - Bakersfield has a severe doctor shortage, especially in the Pulmonology specialty. With that said, having Atlas Urgent Care available to us for immediate needs, with their high standard of care, we feel supported. I cannot over emphasize that my mom's continued lifespan is due to proactive testing and monitoring, and medication intervention early enough to slow the progression of her serious lung condition - all due to Dr. Alam's diligence and skills. She is still alive and able to continue enjoying her role as mother and friend because of him. read more

Great doctor, terrible boss. I worked for Dr. Alam 6 years ago right out of high school and still to this day I'm bothered by how I was treated there. On my first day, when they introduced me to him and I said hello, he didn't even acknowledge that I said hello. He'll only speak to the "important" people. The office managers assistant at the time, Caren, was AWFUL to me as well. I was only 18 and I was constantly rushing to the bathroom to puke because of the stress they put on me. I was fired for a reason that wasn't even my fault. They don't treat their employees like people unless they've been there for years. Hands down THEE WORST job I've ever had. THEE WORST management I've ever been under. Obviously it had to have been really bad if I'm still here years later bothered by it. I honestly wouldn't even rate them with 1 star for how awful they are but Yelp won't let me do 0 stars lol. Anyways, if you're looking to work here, look somewhere else. It's not worth it. read more

On an average, durung the past 5 years, Dr. Alam was distant and didn't have time to see me at the hospital; He pawned me off on a below average Dr. Anders, at Mercy Southwest and has somehow managed to lose the one doctor in his office, Kendra Lawrence MD, that was a true asset to his practice. . I really thought I had a keeper with Dr Alam. I thought at first, he cared, but seems he's given his extremelely, unprofessional front office staff office staff the idea that his patients are expendable; In particular, Gabby. Alexis and Dana are very helpful but it was the straw that broke the camel's back and I have decided to NEVER call Dr. Alams office again. My wife called and spoke to Gabby and expressed her dissatisfaction, because I had called 3x's without a call back from Gabby or Dr. Alam about sleeping meds. She blamed it on Dr. Alam, saying "Dr. has been busy and in clinic and has not responded to me". It was going on 5xdays and was so in need of decent sleep. We tried to get an appt, but she said Dr. Alam couldn't see me for another month. That was absurd. My wife said we may have to find a Dr. who had time for his patients and Gabby was fine with that. So, we will. I am EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED with this Dr. at this point, after puttung my trust in him for over 5 years. It is very scary to be thrown out like garbage during a Pandemic. I wonder if she Gabby told Dr. Alam any of this was going on. read more

I have been seeing Dr Alam for maybe 2 1/2 years. I have pulmonary problems. Can't seem to catch my breath. I saw another pulmonologist for quite some time, all that ever happened there is I'd get a test to see how my breathing was and then a breathing treatment with Albuterol. Dr Alam has tried everything he can think of to see if it will help. Some things have done nothing and some have worked well. I am feeling so much better and my breathing is not so labored. I am so very grateful to have found this wonderful doctor. read more
