I had the pleasure of visiting Johns Creek Books & Gifts today and it was a real TREAT.  This…read moreincredibly cute bookshop is OPEN - you can shop inside with a mask on, or do curbside pickup.  They also have the option of online delivery.  I went inside and was amazed at how well the store is organized!  They have a number of zones from tables where you can purchase beautiful jewelry, to a table with an awesome candle selection, a really cool puzzle section, as well as a very nice variety of ALL types of books (including a used book area!).  I found so many great items and was really excited to be able to buy the birthday gift I was looking for as well as splurge on a few things for myself as well.  The lady at the register (one of the owners?) was extremely welcoming and friendly, too.  Johns Creek Books & Gifts truly embodies the essence of an excellent community bookstore.   I realize we're in some difficult times. If you happen to be a person who is in the position to help the economy with a little bit of spending, I hope that you will consider shopping local and support great shops like this one.  Especially if you're ordering books, puzzles or candles online, if you can help a fantastic place like this stay in business, please do.  Their prices are competitive and you can get some very reasonable deals as well!  Ok, I'm off my soapbox!, just sayin' this place is pretty amazing :)

I love this store…read more There were so many unique and interesting items. I could see having a great time gifts shopping and possibly finding a treat for me. Many shops (including a major chain) try to fill the gift space but I love to find unique items that are not everywhere. That is how I felt here. While speaking to the young lady, she told me there are only a couple of locations. This is not a chain! I like that. They had choices from gifts to decor to clothing and so much in between. My daughter has a wedding to attend next weekend and we found a dress that I thought would be perfect. It looked great on her. If there were a location where we live, I would definitely be shopping here. Happy shopping!

The other day while at work, they broke mid-step while I was simply walking. The store refuses to refund or exchange. Their excuse was that they "can't resell damaged product if they accept the return". Well, unfortunately you will also never be able to sell to this customer again. A simple refund of a measly $23 and I would have been on my way. I cannot even imagine stepping foot in their store again. You get better service from Forever 21, and that is sad. I am not familiar with other boutiques return policies, but I strongly advice you put down the cute pair of bell bottoms you see at Ensemble and go find them at another boutique who respects your business. I am so incredibly disappointed.

DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE!…read more This store is chocked full of goodies. It is like falling down a rabbit hole because it just goes on and on and is the full length of the building. You can actually exit out of the rear door. This store has lots of gift ideas for your home and garden such as cute little lunch and picnic bags, home decor items, garden accessories and supplies, fragrances, chimes, gift cards and so much more. I love the "laugh out loud gift cards". These are the cards that you read and immediately laugh out loud. My favorite birthday card today had a picture of an older woman on the front and read: Gurrrl!, 39 again? and when you open it, it says: Do you even own a mirror? I loved it and if I had a frenemy, this would be the perfect card. Unfortunately this is not a card that I would actually give to a friend but one that I would share for a good laugh. There were several of these very funny cards along with more serious ones. In the second room there was a collection of fragrances that you could actually test. They came in the form of creams, sprays, liquids and diffusers. I tested one and will be returning to purchase some because as I sit here, I am enjoying this wonderful light scent that is not overwhelming and does not cause my eyes to water. Today I picked up Wind and Willow Chili and cheese hot dip mix. I hope the product tastes as good as the picture looks. They had several varieties but I chose this one because it was lower in sodium and will pair well with my blue tortilla chips. This is a great mature gift shop where you can find items of dignity to give your friends. No more tacky tees and cheap garbage as you will find truly thoughtful options available.

I tried about 7-8 pieces before deciding on one. It is a small store so some articles of clothes didn't have so many sizes. But overall good experience. Prices are not very inexpensive but they seem like good quality clothing. I went with my son and he was being impatient, the employee was so sweet to give him a candy. And it in return made him sit on the bench while I tried the clothes in the small fitting room. The dress I bought, so many people have complimented on it whenever I wear it. Overall, a great buy.

Absolutely appalling experience at Piper and Lillies…read more Our 15-year-old daughter went in Sunday to spend money she had saved on a Jellycat. Before purchasing, she specifically asked about the return policy and was told "30 days." Minutes later, after deciding she couldn't justify spending over $100 with tax, she attempted to return the untouched item and was told Jellycats were not returnable. That was frustrating. What happened next was far worse. When my wife called, manager Trey suggested that our daughter had taken a bracelet she had been looking at -- effectively accusing a 15-year-old girl of theft. She had simply picked up a bracelet while shopping, carried it to the Jellycat display, and set it down there before making her purchase. She went back into the store and showed the employee exactly where she had left it. Her boyfriend recorded the interaction. She walked out bawling after being treated like a thief. Rather than apologize or show any concern, Trey remained accusatory. My wife then spoke with owner Julia Butler, who was equally rude, confrontational, and dismissive. Businesses have every right to investigate theft. They do not have the right to presume a child is guilty without establishing the facts. A 15-year-old walked into this store excited to spend her own saved money and walked out sobbing after being made to feel like a criminal. The conduct of both management and ownership was disgraceful. I would strongly caution any parent before allowing their child to shop here.

Duluth, with its heavy domination of chains and strip malls, does need more places like this. While heavily dominated by women's clothing mostly within the "affordable quality" price range of $50-$100, there is also a decent section dedicated to small local items such as Georgia Bulldogs coasters, mugs, a few books and of course, artwork with Lake Lanier on it. Admittedly, many of those items are not something I would personally ever purchase, but they are there and could make a good souvenir for somebody visiting the state. They are certainly more tasteful than a gift shop and largely tailor towards suburban demographic that surrounds it. The staff were friendly in this little shop and the design is neat. All around, a pleasant local business that adds to the character of the neighborhood and is a pleasure to support.
