My wife and I just came from the Thanksgiving dinner Swingbelly's sponsored! They have supported the Long Beach community since Sandy with free food for the West End residents who have nothing. They have been an integral part of the Long Beach community since they have opened. They have sponsored the Survivors' Dinner for our Relay for Life event and, now, sponsored a Thanksgiving dinner for anyone in Long Beach who wanted to come. The response was phenomenal, food fantastic and the turn-out wonderful. It was all about Long Beach and its residents... no politics and no signage promoting their business. They asked for nothing in return but gave so much. They did all of this while they were closed due to damage from Sandy yet they forgot about their own problems and took it upon themselves to help us out! As a long time Long Beach resident I wanted to thank Sean, Mike and everyone, including their families and employees, who gave up their time, money and energy to make this so successfull. We love you for what you have done for us!!! Everyone in Long Beach and the surrounding communities should remember what they have done for us in our time of need and make sure we support them when they return to business! Thank you Swingbellys for making this the best Thanksgiving we have ever had and thank you to all of the volunteers who came from accross this great country of ours to help out! I read all the reviews and been to most the competition - this place takes top prize for me. Went with a friend, she got the pork i ordered the st louis style ribs. The spice on the ribs was perfect and the flavor top notch, not too much smoke, extremely juicy and fall off the bone tender. The pulled pork came out in a heaping pile with just a tad of sauce, its obvious they take pride in their food cause it wasnt over sauced. Again the pork had great smoke flavor but not over the top, and again the spice rub was GREAT!!! Mac-N-Cheese AWESOME, cornbread AWESOME, Fries - AVG, Beans - AWESOME with huge chunks of pork. Definitely top notch barbecue, in fact i would agree with reviews saying it is the best on long island, beating out smokin' al's in my mind. I just wish i didnt have to drive all the way down to the west end of long beach to enjoy this place - but it's worth the trip! And i will be back. read more

This place has a great ambiance, very good food, excellent friendly service. But most importantly, they were extremely accommodating to our puppy in their outdoor seating area! We had a variety of tacos, mac and cheese, and the early bird sandwich. I would recommend all of them. The price is very reasonable and they have a variety drinks at great prices as well. read more

Last night they posted a photo and description of an amazing looking sandwich, this is the direct text from FB "The OG Swingbellys Sammich: pork, brisket, house made bacon, Mac n cheese sauce, American cheese, cheddar, jack cheeses, onion strings, topped with Mac n cheese croquettes. Actually, we are gonna call it "the light weight' ". It made me get the crave immediately. As soon as I got home from work today I called and inquired about the sammich. The girl who answered the phone wasn't sure about it and I overheard her conversation with whoever was in the kitchen. I could actually hear him yelling about it through the phone, how if I wanted it it would cost me at least $30 and just general yelling and complaining. Why the hell would you post a sandwich if it isn't available and why are you so mad if someone calls to ask about it? Isn't that a good thing? This place USED to be great. It has started to fall by the wayside a bit. I used to love coming here and getting a rack of ribs and sippin on a monster Margarita, but there is one experience I will simply never forget. My mother and I went here to eat and while the staff is normally as sweet as sugar, this one bartender was beyond rude from the get. First, we order two beers and some food. We put 80 dollars cash on the bar, which was far more than the food and drinks we ordered cost, and the bartender proceeds to tell us that we need to put a card down for food orders. I simply asked, why since we were paying cash. He then proceeds to take all $80 off the bar and put our food order through, I asked him why he was taking 80$ for what was two $5 beers an order of nachos and an order of mac and cheese, which is $40 max, with tip, and he basically picked up the beer that was in front of me and threatened to throw it in my mothers face - all because I asked him why he tried to pull one over on us. I don't know if he was having a bad day, but it was incredibly inappropriate and unnerving to have someone threaten your mother a woman half his size, but also one twice his age. read more

This place always has a lot of hype but never meets the expectations. The best thing they have there is the Mac and Cheese, so I decided to get the "Mac and Pete" which is Mac and Cheese with sliced brisket in it. Unlike the classic mac and cheese it didn't come with the baked breadcrumbs on top and instead was topped with onion strings. It was okay but not nearly as good as expected. As for their other menu items, I can make a better pulled pork sandwich, the other sandwiches are nothing special as well. Always come here excited and leave disappointed. i like to pop in with my kids for lunch or early dinners... of course the ribs! but we are also big fans of the cuban sandwich, the shrimp BLT and the poppers appetizer (be warned- they are spicy!). my son loves all things bacon so this is always his favorite food destination... & when an outing just isn't possible we have done their take out on numerous occasions. read more

My first visit to Swingbelly's was not good. I walked in and the "greeter chick" was rude as hell. My first thought was to walk back out but my boyfriend really wanted to try this place. Food was ok, he loved it, I liked it. The second time approx. 2 months later we go back for BBQ, this time I waited at the bar for his arrival. I literally stood at the bar waiting for 15 min. before I was served, watch 2 guys next to me get asked if they were ok and the bartender doing shots at the far end of the bar totally ignoring me standing there. I was disgusted and at that point I knew that this was a racist ass restaurant that I do not want to spend my money in. Swingbellys staff is racist and rude!!!!!! read more

I will start off by saying VERY disappointed. Me and my wife came here on a Saturday night with another couple. The restaurant was full, but it usually is. We ordered the sampler and thats where everything went wrong. After waiting 45 minutes for it to come out, we asked to see a manager. The manager comes to the table and was EXTREMELY rude and very un professional. This manager should absolutely be fired. We told him that the food was taking over 45 min and his response was "can't you see the restaurant is busy?". I have never had a manager say that to me. Instead of apologizing and doing something about it, he turned and walked away. DO NOT go here!!!! read more

we went for lunch after hearing it was pretty good. i had the supersalad and asked for it to be with chicken. the waitress returned about 20 minutes later and said they were out of chicken! the other choices were brisket or pulled pork. i chose brisket, and it was like leather. i sent it back and they brought the pulled pork which was fair. even before our meal was finnished the waitress brought over the dessert which was included with my lunch special. since it was ice cream and brownies i thought that was really weird since we hadn't finished eating! I love this place! Went yesterday with a group of friends and had a wonderful time. The drinks were excellent. I had the bloody boar and it was so nice to order a drink like that and actually have it served with alcohol in it! The food was great. I had the brisket and fried green tomatoes which I would highly recommend. My friends had a combo of fish, chicken, ribs and were all equally happy. Server could not have been nicer and the atmosphere is so much fun. We can't wait to go again. A must to try. read more

YUM!!!! delcious food. the fried pickles were a ok! a little less delicious than southern hospitality. sweet potato fries- good, big house salad- good. the chicken.. seriously delicious. the margarita- disgusting. and HUGE. the big guy host- very mean. he literally threw a pen at my table. we were kind, quiet, well behaved a non-hassle table. our waitress didn't know how to smile. or ask us how things were... dissapointing service but i was thankfully there with company i enjoyed that distracted me from that! :) read more

Very authentic not the sloppy goopy bottled barbeque sauce type. And, on Margarita special nite, buy one get one(I think Wed), the jumbo 32 oz. margarita($15) cant be beat. Just one objection, you can't order one each for 2 people,they want you to order 2 for ONE person and, forget driving, you can barely walk after one of those whoppers so why encourage anyone to get that plastered not to mention the liver damage. Food was good. Mac and cheese was probably best I've ever had. Thursday's are great. Three dollar cans and a pretty good beer selection. Can't really beat that. Service on the other hand.. Absolutely terrible. To start off, I asked the waitress "Jackie" about the drink selection. She turns the menu over and says "these look like drinks right?" Then I tell her no I was asking about the beer selection. Then replies in a snobby attitude, "yes I was talking to him" (my boyfriend).... Also food took forever to come out. She only asked my boyfriend to wrap his meal. Completely rude. I understand you are under pressure and stressed out. I asked a simple question and was nice and in return I get a snobby, rude, unfriendly and downright nasty waitress. I love BBQ. I've had it all over the country by some of the best pit masters out there. Unfortunately, this cannot be added to my list of favorites. I got delivery and ordered supreme nachos, full rack baby backs, taco platter with 2 shrimp and one pulled pork. For sides I got mac and cheese, cucumber salad, and garlic mashed. Delivery was almost 2 hours. When I called, the girl said he left half hour ago...which might explain why my food was ice cold. Not sort of cold, but like they were sitting in the car while the delivery guy went and met up with his friends for a bit. So I wanted to dig into the nachos first, and I appreciated that they packaged all the topping separately so they weren't soggy. That's where my appreciation ended. Nothing special, the cheese was way too salty and flavorless. The chilli ends or whatever they're called tasted like they came out of a package. Next I opened the tacos. They were ICE COLD and completely soggy. That being said, the flavor on these was actually ok, Shrimp was good, and if they had been hot and less soggy I would have enjoyed them. Now for the ribs...I'd rather eat Lloyds ribs from the supermarket. As I said before I've had the best in the country. These are nowhere near that, not even on that same planet. They were dry, and had such little flavor I was wondering if they had forgotten to season them. The mac and cheese was good, they even gave the cutest little cup of breadcrumb topping to add to it. Cucumber salad was good, garlic mashed lacked any garlic flavor or seasoning in general. I wanted to love this food, I really did. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, because I have heard others rave about this place. Or it's entirely possible they've never had real BBQ made by a guy named Bubba Ray who comes out from the pit and sits with you for a quick chat. One last thing, I didn't eat much of the food at all, and my belly became extremely bloated and painful. If I ever had to eat here again (if friends wanted to go or something like that), I would order the shrimp tacos and cucumber salad, maybe a piece of cornbread. Bottom line, if you don't know what real BBQ is, you might like it here, but if you've ever had the pleasure of finger lickin good perfectly sauced and seasoned ribs, this may not be the place for you. I must say though that for the food I ordered, it was reasonably priced, as the quantity was large. read more

Very disappointing. Was good before Sandy and this was our first visit since it reopened. Ribs were pretty good, but brisket and pulled pork had no flavor at all. Sides were awful. Mac and cheese was watery, and cole slaw tasted like unseasoned cabbage that had just been sliced and thrown in the bowl. Sauce portion is very small and they charge for more. No refills on drinks. AMAZING!!!! Hubby woke up w a bbq craving so I yelped and became intrigued by the feedback. It was phenomenal. Staff was SOOOOO attentive and friendly. The food was incredible. My 2.5 year old toddler loved it and had a ball pointing out all the "pigs" that decorate the restaurant. Tacos/pulled pork was to die for. Went to Swingbellys BBQ expecting great ribs. Ordered two and a half racks of baby backs. The ribs were not any baby backs I've ever had. The meat was tough and hard to pull apart. Greatly disappointed. Made a reservation for 8 people and it seemed when we got there they weren't expecting us. Not impressed with the attitude of the hostess. We waited at least 45 min to sit which was especially challenging with 4 kids. I wouldn't have gone with kids if I couldn't make a reservation. When we were finally seated the volume of the music was unbearable. The waitress was lovely and understanding and tried to help. The volume was then lowered. They served a beer on tap that they stated probably wasn't going to be good, it was flat. Didn't charge us for it. But why even serve it?? Finally when our ribs were served to the starving party it was just bad. Dry and didn't taste quite right. The 2 stars I gave, generous for our overall experience, was for the waitress who was friendly and very accommodating. read more

When Swingbellys first opened I ate there frequently and it was awsome. Then Superstorm Sandy hit and of course they were closed for a bit. I eagerly awaited for Swingbellys to re-open. When they did I went back and was sorry did. Limited menu, tasteless, horrible food and the bar was noisy and the people at the bar were very rowdy. Very disappointed and vowed never to go back. After reading recently that there was new management and a new chef I decided to give it one more try. Disgusting is how I describe it. My pulled pork and brisket was completely tastless and devoid of any BBQ flavor. The brisket was a sliced lump of fat and the shredded pork was dry as hell. I had to ask the waitress for BBQ sauce to get the food down. If they want to be a bar, be a bar but it's a far cry from a restaurant. I am done with this place. Fooled me twice. Don't ever go on fried chicken night! My wife and I have ordered from here before and have always enjoyed the food. We decided to eat at the restaurant and was extremely disappointed right from the beginning. It took the waitress over 20 minutes to even take our drink order. When we decided on what we were ordering the waitress informed us that the fried chicken takes a long time to be prepared. We were fine with that but little did we know that it would take over an hour and a half for our order to come out. During that period the waitress did not come to see us for another order of drinks for almost 45 minutes. It took another 30 minutes for them to come out. The place wasn't that busy. The quality of the food was average at best. Chicken was dry, burger wasn't the way my wife ordered it. Overall, if we are to eat here again, we will order take out. read more
