Davis needs more enclosed heated pools for the kids to learn how to swim during the winter. For now Swim America is it, as far as I know. My kid enjoyed his lessons with some instructors, but not all. This year after the holidays we noticed that the water quality has changed and the kid was reluctant to continue with the lessons. I reached out and was told that the water is fine, but then he developed eczema, so we decided to pull him out, which is unfortunate. The kids do enjoy leveling up and receiving prizes, which is fun, I suppose. read more

PLZ LOOK OUT! Look out, don't put your credit card or any other money information. I signed up for a one class for 36.25 class on July 26. Switched the class to a different days. On August 1 I got an unauthorized charge 217.50. When I called them the same day they said they would talk to the manager. Didn't hear anything till the next day. When I called saying I would come in, I then got an email from Cindy saying they won't refund me anything because i switched days and it's in their policy. When I went to check their policy not only doesn't it exist but on the website it shows that you can transfer class days. Doesn't mention any kinds of charges. I contacted the Cindy back and haven't heard anything back. I repeatedly asked for a refund for what I didn't authorize and they haven't gotten back. read more

We LOVE Swim America!! We have been with them since our oldest, Shane, was 5 months old... over 3 years ago! Since then we have added our 1 year old daughter into the mix. It's been an incredible experience to confidently feel safe with my kids near any body of water. While the classes seem really short and simple, there has been visible improvement in my daughter's confidence with the water. We started taking our daughter to Swim America when she was less than six months old, and have continued taking classes there for over a year and a half now. The place is amazing and designed with kids and parents in mind. Staff are welcoming and always take the time to answer our endless questions. Our little one has a blast during her swim classes. Her mother and I do too when we are in the pool with her or watching from the sidelines. The coaches are great with all the kids, and are especially fantastic with us parents. The swim instructors teach us adults how to hold, guide, and teach our children to be comfortable and confident in the water. Not only is our daughter becoming a better swimmer, but we are better parents for knowing how to ensure her safety by being in the water with her. I'm writing this post because summer is here and the pool season full-swing. At the public pools and at friends houses we are regularly told how good of a swimmer our daughter is for her age, and how comfortable her mother and I are with swimming with her. We find ourselves passing along the swimming tips we've learned to others teaching their own kids how to swim. Without a doubt, this would not be the case without lessons at Swim America. The staff was so refreshingly able to support my child's surprising anxiety when we walked in the door. He was so excited on his way over, but once we got there began to sob and beg me not to go into the pool. The lead coach came and spoke with him, got right down to his level on the floor, brought over toys, explored them with him, was patient, kind, and beyond accommodating. She helped him understand all the steps that would support him in getting in the water, and allowed me to come in to the swim area to support the transition. His teacher was incredible, and by the time the lesson was up my son was saying he was sad it was over and asking when he could come back again. This team turned my child from a state of terror to joy in 30 minutes, and with such patience and love. The front desk staff was also warm and friendly, both via phone and in person. My daughter has been taking swim lessons at Swim America for the past 4.5 years, and I couldn't be happier with the level and quality of instruction, not to mention the constant focus on water safety. My daughter is only 5 years old, and people are always amazed when they see her swim. Whenever we are swimming at our local pool, I am constantly asked, "Where did she learn to swim like that? She's so little!" The answer is Swim America, of course! Every instructor that has taught my daughter has been wonderful! Please keep in mind that this is not your typical Parks and Rec swim class--it's a Swim School where children are taught how to swim, not just tread water, dog paddle, and dive for rings. Lessons at Swim America are technique-driven with very defined goals and objectives. Unlike your typical Park and Rec class that places children in classes by age, Swim America has their own unique teaching method, where children are placed in small groups and move to higher skill levels as they achieve the advancement goals of their present group. Children do not move on to the next level until they master the skills required to do so, regardless of their age or how long they have been taking lessons. There are ten levels in all--begining with blowing bubbles on up to swimming all four competitive strokes. Children are rewarded for their efforts every stroke of the way at Swim America. Graduation certificates and advancement cards are presented to children to build their confidence along the way. When a child graduates from a level, there is a cute right of passage tradition at Swim America where they get to "ring the bell". All of the parents and other children in the pool and waiting room know what the bell sound means, and they erupt in clapping and cheers to share in the excitement of the achievement. Its owned by a local woman and the staff looks to mostly be students, which I think is great. Gosh. I just don't know! The lessons are good. My daughter does seem to be benefitting from it. And the infant/toddler class is definitely structured better than a pervious swim company we attended last summer. BUT....I have a few issues. We've just started lessons here in May; so two months. And they've been closed twice during weekend classes. May's break was understandable, Memorial Weekend. But then another break in June. So haven't got a full month yet. And forget missing a class for any reason. They have the option to "makeup" the class, but it seems almost impossible to actual make it up. It can only be scheduled 48 hours in advance, and good luck with getting in a time slot that works for you. THEY'RE FULL! So again....I just don't know. read more

This for the infant swim lessons, which are FREE up until 6 months. Swim America is awesome, and really, what do you have to lose by giving the baby swim lessons a shot. It's free! They aren't really lessons... I mean we're talking about babies here. What it really is is just a water comfort class. If you want to get your baby used to being in the water instead of crying the minute they get water in their eyes, this is a great start. You'll have a blast too, singing songs and doing nursery rhymes in the water with your little one is super adorable and you'll probably like it more than the baby. By the time your baby graduates at the 6 month cut off, they well have done some back floating, had water splashed in their face, and even gone under water. Its a hoot and every session is ridiculously cute. Lessons are offered year round and the pool is indoors. Inside, I think the water is 90 degrees and the air inside is probably in the 80s, so no excuses! read more

Swim America Davis has been extremely accommodating to my son's specific needs and has been flexible in helping us continue lessons as I transitioned into new employment. It's a bit expensive, however skills and safety are always their focus and it is a 2:1 lesson, so it's much more individualized than group lessons. Stay Away!! I gotta say this place is a bit of a let down. Immediately, I was dissatisfied as there was no one at the reception desk when I came in. Who are your employees?? I think the management needs some help. Also, I know that indoor pools tend to have strong odors, but this place was obnoxiously reeking of chlorine. My fears were confirmed after the lesson, when my nephew's skin was completely dried out and wrecked. We came here to be out of the sun, and still came away with damaged skin. read more

My three year old daughter loves coming here for her swim lesson. She asks about it all week long. We were doing the parent/tot classes and now that she's 3 she gets to move up. At first I wasn't sure about the coach but turns out I made a quick judgement. She's really good with my daughter. Very patient and I can tell my daughter truly enjoys the class. Not a good school. Management is super greedy with money. Unfortunately the only option for covered pool in Davis, so during winter month, there is no other choice. Had both of my kids enrolled and managed to synchronize the classes, so that while I am with my baby in the infant swim class my toddler kid is in a parallel class. To my huge disappointment they have this unfair rule, of shortening the class if your kid is the only one who showed up (god forbid to give someone a privet lesson). So they kick my kid out of the pool 10min earlier, while I am still in the water with the baby. He had to stand there for 10 min, freezing, because I was not able to assist him with the shower. Well, we passed on this one time and kept up coming. Unfortunately, again, my kid did not want to continue because they insisted on him performing perfect back float. Without that, there was no way to advance to the next level. So guess what, the kid got so bored with their swimming program, he did not want to go anymore. We had to self-train the kids until they were ready to go to other swim programs in Davis. I think that swimming programs for kids so young should be first of all fun and not so stringent on details. If it is not fun, they do not want to come and may not get the right impression about this terrific sport! read more

This place is a straight up scam! Avoid at all costs. None of the kids have any space to swim, they all only get a couple feet as so many are packed into the pool. Kids will regularly have to be stopped so they don't bump into each other. My kids have been stuck only doing back, & front glides for over 3 months. One being told "well, her legs werent at the surface, or touching so she cant move on." Meanwhile shes having to be stopped after a few seconds so she stays in her area. The other actually passed that level & is in level 3, however she never gets to do level 3 skills, she still hasn't been practicing anything else, or given anymore space to practice. Higher levels do get more space eventually being allowed to swim in the lap lanes... however, they are swimming with fins on. One has to question what are they learning? Thats not gonna help them. I think its ridiculous my kids have been here so long, & they need to be stopped to stay in their tiny swim area and not bump the next kid! And yet, they still are not challenged or given more space to see how far they can go! they need to push these kids instead they're holding them back to make more money. No kickboard practice, no practice diving under the water, you don't even start lessons with having kids practice kicking properly on the wall. My kids started swimming lessons at the public pool $75.00 total & they go multiple days a week. They've done more swimming in 3 days, & made more progress than they have in almost 4 months with Swim America. If you want your kid to swim don't go here. If you want to spend tons of time and money on glides in tiny spaces come here! read more

We have had both our children go through Swim America from Kidergarden ages through their Tenth level (our daughter is currently working on passing the 9th level). The staff is unbelievable, kind, encouraging, and makes learning to swim fun. In fact, I just heard today a staff member engage in a very positive manner with a student completely unrelated to me in the parking lot and couldn't help think to myself that this business has an unbelievable culture that empowers their employees to engage with the students and their parents. The overall experience is exceptional and rewarding, and the bottom line is that My wife and I feel confident that both our children are completely water safe and competent to in the pool without us needing to be in the water at the same time. read more

We recently moved to Davis and were looking for swim lessons for our 3 year old daughter. She had a wonderful experience and was making excellent progress at a swim school (Silver Bear) in Reno and this seemed like a similar program with defined skill targets for each level. Unfortunately, they have a policy that all kids under 4 must wear a swim diaper. My daughter has been totally potty trained since she turned 2. She has not worn (or needed) diapers of any kind for over a year and a half. We explained this to the staff and they said that it is a firm policy. We were disappointed that our child's individual development could not be accommodated. We did watch a lesson and our daughter was really excited about taking lessons here but we explained that they wanted her to wear a diaper because she wasn't 4. Her response was ..."That's silly. I don't wear diapers. I am potty trained." She totally gets it - and we will celebrate and honor where she is in her development by looking elsewhere. read more

I nanny for a couple families in Davis and take the kids here for lessons. For the past 2 years, I've seen many different instructors come and go. Most of the instructors are enthusiastic, helpful, and kid-friendly (as they should be), but some of the front desk people are quite the opposite. They can be rude and unwelcoming. It really depends on who you get. The vicinity itself is pretty clean. There is a tiny play area in the corner for toddlers if you happen to bring their younger siblings to watch their lesson. The difficulty of each level seems to vary as well, as mentioned in another review. My kids can fly though one level but take weeks and weeks in another... Another note: try to make all your scheduled lessons because make-ups are a pain to re-schedule. They've either told me they "don't have it placed in their calendar" or misplaced them at a different time. Uh... What?!? How hard is it to get a name down of a child for the right time/level?? I don't know how many times I've come here for a make up lesson and just had to bring them home and come back another day.. *Sigh Other than those comments, the kids seem to love the instructors. I believe it's the only place that provides indoor swimming lessons in Davis, so if you want your kids to learn how to swim in the cold seasons/indoors... you don't really have a choice :/ read more

So it turns out the information when I signed my child up for camp wasn't accurate, and we shouldn't have been made to pay for the later summer weeks since they were so far out. And with that, we were issued a cash refund worth 67%, which is better than the 39% refund we were to get originally. The reality is that Swim America was around long before my child was enrolled there, and will be there long after he's grown. My solo child's tuition is a drop in the bucket compared to their over all revenue stream. Not saying they can't take measures to dissuade people from haphazardly signing up for lessons. I'm sure that is a burden on resources. But it's not a black and white issue either, sometimes people have legitimate reasons for cancelling. Those reasons should be respected is all. Especially when ample time is given. read more

I just started lessons for my 3 month old and they are wonderful!! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The teacher is knowledgeable and the pool is around 90 degrees (indoor), so it's perfect for babies. They offer free lessons for babies up to 6 months, which is smart because they're so great I will definitely pay to take my son once he's older. The pool is small, but the facility is clean and has a changing room with cubbies and showers to wash off after lessons. If you're looking for swim lessons, I would definitely sign up with swim America. read more

So nice to give my son a pool party even though it's November, and see families having fun together in the water with the little ones. We've been coming for a few months, and we love it. We've had to make up days because of tantrums or sickness and the staff has always been so accomodating. It's indoor, has open family swims at certain times of the year, showers, heated changing stations, and even has a play area for other kids. They also have desks in the hallway for mini "homework stations", small cute giveaways for the kids after class, and windows so you can see what is happening in class comfortably. The program we are in is 30 min long, and the next level up will depend on age, but so far we are loving how it makes our 2yo comfortable in the water, while practicing basic techniques of backfloating, and brief underwaters. read more

My granddaughter visited from Colorado for a week, so we enrolled her in SwimAmercia for 4-days of lessons. She is 6 and has had a lot of fun splashing in pools since she was 2. Our expectations were met and exceeded with the wonderful lessons and staff at SwimAmerica. My goals for her were to learn to float and be watersafe. In addition she learned to kick more efficiently and move through the water to the extent that, when home, she started swimming a version of freestyle. Their techniques are successful to say the least, and so inspiring to watch. Seeing the instructors move their students through a half-hour of activities that actually deliver the goods is worth the price and time. You won't be disappointed. read more
