This is one of my favorite places to hang out during the summer. Usually there's not a lot of…read morepeople either cuz their busy studying for summer classes, or because it is tooooo hot. Today im lucky enough to come on a weekend that's not overbearing with heat or overfilled with people. The music in the background and the people talking around you creates a soft ambient noise which will put you right to sleep! Don't forget your sunscreen though! Shady areas around trees can run out fast

The good news is that the planned renovation includes adding a sand volleyball court as my family…read moreis big into beach volleyball. Bad news, we are not happy they are making the space for swimming much smaller and removing a diving board leaving us all to share one, which will leave us dripping along side a long line waiting to dive. As a UCD alum, I've been taking my family to the REC POOL for last 25 years. We just sat and watched the video of what's coming in dismay. Maybe the point of making the useable space for swimming much smaller is to discourage families from going as it was intended to be for unmarried students without family living close by. My 10 and 12 year olds have celebrated birthdays here over the past decade. The original 1966 pool design seems more innovative than the new 2019 one that seems very basic with two small rectangle pools being planned... I guess a lot of cement will need to be ordered to fill in swimming area?!? Wow. Then again maybe the video was not scaled to planned size very well. I would have only renovated the 50 year old locker rooms and added the beach volleyball court with tall thin netting around it in an attempt to keep driven leather v-balls from rolling into pools or students studying on their beach towels. Where are our creative architects? Where's the water slide, slip & slide OR Zip line into the pool? Insurance issues can be avoided with planning. What about water aerobics in a 4' level shallow end for those who have joint pain or who are athletes mending an injury aquatically? What about a low and high dive diving board area? Insurance issues avoided with planning and setting rules for use. Wheres the creativity? Did they consider inviting ideas and raising funds by local fundraisers to pay for implementing a much more innovative plan?

Very clean and although it's crowded, it doesn't feel overwhelming at all. The only downside for me…read moreis that outside food and drinks aren't allowed. But thankfully, there's a nice little cafeteria with affordable prices, okay for lunch or snacks. We'll definitely be back tomorrow! It's a great spot both for families with kids and for adults without children. There are slides, inflatable toys, and even an Olympic-size pool. There are plenty of lifeguards around, and one big plus for me: they play music! It really lifts the mood. We loved it!

Pretty fun place, not that expensive. Restrooms were relatively clean and there are a lot of…read moreswimming options for all levels and ages. I only have two gripes (yeah, here we go). First, I really think it is tacky on their part to charge a separate $4 fee for the obstacle course which requires a wristband. Especially given that you then have to queue up just for a turn. While it is a cool feature it is annoying that you have to oay an entrance fee then this additional fee. I suggest they Just up the fee a couple of bucks and let anyone use it. Gripe number two, the lifeguards. Bros... chillll the F out! While I admire and respect their commitment to safety, they are a bit overzealous in regards to their enforcement of the rules. I wonder if because there are so many of them that they need to find any little thing to jump on to but the vigor that they use to address even the most minor violation such as kids running or hanging on the swim lines is so out of proportion that it is a bit absurd. I can't help but mess with them a little bit just out of spite. Aside from the issues mentioned it is a pretty cool place with a variety of options (waterside and kiddie area) that make for a fun way to beat the heat.

Brought it to a lifeguard's attention, they literally said "that is his area". We left after this comment. There appeared to be actual feces in the kiddie pool area. Not a just a little. The lifeguards at the diving boards did not ensure that yellow bands were on little kids' wrists. My nephew went over there and was obviously not 12. Nothing done. I took him away and put him where he belonged. I had three kids with me all different ages and heights. Lifeguards need to be lifeguards and not be checking out other teenagers and playing games amongst themselves. It was very obvious. Sad really. Won't be back.

Seems like everyone is following the rules and having so much fun! They will allow you to bring your own food, tables, and chairs in! They have a snack bar that seems to have something for everyone with great prices! The price to get in is so affordable at eight dollars per child. It's the cheapest fun you can have! If you're a parent/caregiver and you want to swim, it will cost you the same but if you just want to go in it, it's five dollars to enter. We typically stay the full rec time that is 3 1/2 hours. We absolutely love it. The splash pad for the younger kids is really awesome with a waterslide that's perfect for youngsters! That waterslide is so much fun and these little ones have a blast! I highly recommend!
