Have lifeguards that care about their jobs...guarding lives. Kids were jumping into the big pool…read moreonto each other and near the cement corner several times, over and over. Brought it to a lifeguard's attention, they literally said "that is his area". We left after this comment. There appeared to be actual feces in the kiddie pool area. Not a just a little. The lifeguards at the diving boards did not ensure that yellow bands were on little kids' wrists. My nephew went over there and was obviously not 12. Nothing done. I took him away and put him where he belonged. I had three kids with me all different ages and heights. Lifeguards need to be lifeguards and not be checking out other teenagers and playing games amongst themselves. It was very obvious. Sad really. Won't be back.

Seems like everyone is following the rules and having so much fun! They will allow you to bring your own food, tables, and chairs in! They have a snack bar that seems to have something for everyone with great prices! The price to get in is so affordable at eight dollars per child. It's the cheapest fun you can have! If you're a parent/caregiver and you want to swim, it will cost you the same but if you just want to go in it, it's five dollars to enter. We typically stay the full rec time that is 3 1/2 hours. We absolutely love it. The splash pad for the younger kids is really awesome with a waterslide that's perfect for youngsters! That waterslide is so much fun and these little ones have a blast! I highly recommend!

UPDATE: As we head into the cooler months, even though there…read moreare so many people who depend upon being able to use the pool year-round, we start to have the "staffing" issue, meaning a shortage of life guards. Thanks a bunch to the life guard who calls in "sick" the very morning (usually a week-end) that the pool is scheduled to be open, so there are people who get ready for a swim/exercise session and drive to the pool from in town (Woodland), from Davis, Winters, Esparto, the entire region - only to arrive at the pool and find out it's closed. A "bummer" is putting it lightly! I'm wondering what will happen when the new pool is opened? Building that pool is costing a lot of money - where are the reliable life guards who will be showing up for work on a dependable basis, who take their jobs seriously and don't disappoint their co-workers and those who rely on the pool for healthy exercise?

How freaking cool is this...FREE!…read more Yes open swim time is free. Owned and operated by the City of Woodland shows a very strong and positive way your tax dollars are been put to good use. Both the kiddie pool (3ft) and the competition pool have undergone major reconstruction during the winter of 2014/15. It's one of the busiest pools I've ever seen for swim meets, almost every weekend of the year. As with most public pools, there is two diving boards, a low and a high-dive. Very well maintained and supervised. There is also a security guard present at all times. Changing rooms with showers are always wet so walk slowly and carefully when in there. Some street parking but plenty in the Woodland HS faculty parking lot that's adjacent to the facility. Bring sunscreen, swimsuit, and a towel and have fun. Check their website for closures, usually due to swim meets. Cityofwoodland.org/aquatics/

Bad news, we are not happy they are making the space for swimming much smaller and removing a diving board leaving us all to share one, which will leave us dripping along side a long line waiting to dive. As a UCD alum, I've been taking my family to the REC POOL for last 25 years. We just sat and watched the video of what's coming in dismay. Maybe the point of making the useable space for swimming much smaller is to discourage families from going as it was intended to be for unmarried students without family living close by. My 10 and 12 year olds have celebrated birthdays here over the past decade. The original 1966 pool design seems more innovative than the new 2019 one that seems very basic with two small rectangle pools being planned... I guess a lot of cement will need to be ordered to fill in swimming area?!? Wow. Then again maybe the video was not scaled to planned size very well. I would have only renovated the 50 year old locker rooms and added the beach volleyball court with tall thin netting around it in an attempt to keep driven leather v-balls from rolling into pools or students studying on their beach towels. Where are our creative architects? Where's the water slide, slip & slide OR Zip line into the pool? Insurance issues can be avoided with planning. What about water aerobics in a 4' level shallow end for those who have joint pain or who are athletes mending an injury aquatically? What about a low and high dive diving board area? Insurance issues avoided with planning and setting rules for use. Wheres the creativity? Did they consider inviting ideas and raising funds by local fundraisers to pay for implementing a much more innovative plan?
