Betsy showed me how to operate the sauna including showing me the benefits of using the different lights depending on what you want to get out of the session. She showed me the cooling box for my phone and I was able to connect my Bluetooth and listen to music. I sat in the sauna for about 20 minutes at 150 and then lowered the temp to 140 for the duration of my session. I was sweating! Halfway through I grabbed the nice, cold cooling cloth they had for me and it felt and smelled great. I really liked the aesthetics of the space. Everything was clean and smelled great. They have a water cooler available and trust me you will need it.

I have been interested in floating for awhile and a friend of mine suggested checking out Phlot. I…read moresaw they had a deal around the holiday for two floats for $99 so I purchased them and reserved two time slots on their website, one for me, and one for my boyfriend. They have three float rooms that can be reserved online. Something happened with our reservation and we ended up being double booked in one room with someone else (you float by yourself). The girl working that day was apologetic and gave us a voucher for a free float. It was a bit of a bummer but we rescheduled our floats for the following weekend. If you're unsure of using the online system just give them a call, they would be happy to help you out. The Phlot website has great information on what to expect and how to prepare, so review that before your visit. You'll get a tour of the space and an overview of some different items you can use for your float (earplugs, a halo to help support your head, etc.). The entire facility is impeccably clean and I felt no qualms about going into the tank. The float is one hour and it took me awhile to get used to it. Just feeling weightless and pushing myself off the sides of the tank, pretending to be an astronaut in space was really fun. If you meditate this would be a good time to do that, I think. It was nice to not feel any aches or pains the whole time! After the float you rinse off and can wash with the included body wash and shampoo, then use the drybar with hair dryers and relax in the dimly lit room with some puzzles, tea, and water. It was a relaxing experience and something really unique. The owner Tyler is super nice and answered all our questions about floating. He said that most people will do one float per month or maybe twice a month. I liked that he wasn't trying to sell us on any packages but we already scheduled our next float, and have been discussing buying a membership.

It's less of the polished spa-like atmosphere and more mom + pop shop around the corner. I booked online and then called over the phone to ask a question about their hours. The phone call went to voicemail but I was immediately called back by Jason (who I booked with) letting me know he just saw that I had called. I asked him a few questions and he said he could already see my reservation for the following week. The place is located in an old building off Fulton. City parking is available on the street and there is a lot behind the building. Again, it's not a sparkly place but it gets the job done. What I do love about the location is that I didn't have to drive all the way out to 28th Street. Jason was very friendly and helpful. He had me sign a few forms (took 5 mins) and then showed me to one of their two rooms. It was clean, warm and relaxing. The massage was 55 mins long and Jason an excellent therapist. He used hot stones during a portion of the massage and I greatly appreciated the heated blanket.
