Sam did a fantastic job with my post long run massage. Exactly the right pressure, asked questions to make sure I got the right service and played some great 2000s instrumental music. The whole place is beautiful and friendly. This place is my go to spots for a massage in GR. read more

Glenn Frey once sang, "Nobody knows where you are going, nobody cares where you've been, because you belong to the city." The image of being a point of light, in rivers of urban darkness, encourage us to think of where we belong, as his melody massages our souls. Souls, in this case, notes a return to an accurate definition of the soul of a thing; that is, identity. The soul of a city is defined by its identity. So for our identity, that which is formed from our aspirations built on experiences of the past, to find life in the urban, is profound. Will you experience such a transcendence awakening of self when you visit? Will the office staff treat you as a part of the motion, the river and channels of positive Urban life? Will your massage be soul shaping? The easiest answer would be that as much as we are able to humble ourselves to explore the questions, then we've learned to appreciate that the weight of the answer depends on our selfs. This place is a sanctuary for people who take their bodies seriously, and want them to be seriously taken care of, by skillful hands. Sarah, my favored masseuse, is a gracious host, with incredible talent. She often provides light within the moving seasons of life. This establishment is a source of light, to all of those who belong to The City. Thank you for your craft. read more

Booking an appt was easy online. On-site staff was professional. Facilities are relaxing, and clean. I scheduled a 55 min massage, was done in 45 min, 95% was spent on my back vs full body. Much of massage done with arm vs hands. No time spent on the front of my body. Some benefit on my back, zero value on rest of service. Dissapointed. One of the worst massages I've ever had. Do not recommend. read more

I've been coming here for the past 4-5 years. I've had nothing but great service. Its a experience where the world seems to pause once you set foot in the door. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Don't book with William though as he's my favourite and I want his availability to remain open LOL. Seriously though, book a massage and/or an one of their infrared sauna sessions, you wont be disappointed. read more

The place the clean and the front desk person was very kind and respectful. The massage was good and quality of the massage was good.

Ambiance was phenomenal, the lighting was perfect and the receptionist was very professional. I booked a double room for my best friend's birthday, and it was absolutely wonderful! Elyse and Kaylee did an amazing job. My friend deals with a lot of shoulder pain, and she said when we left that she felt the tension melt from her muscles! The pricing is very reasonable. It was $115 for each of us for an hour, with gratuity included in the pricing. We absolutely will be coming back. Thank you Elyse and Kaylee for the wonderful experience!!! read more

Booked with Sam Monge. Very kind. Technique was good but therapy was poor. I had no benefit.

If you need a prenatal massage, look no further! I sit at a desk all day and work long hours. Mariah has worked out miracles on my upper back and hips in the last month. I am a deep tissue massage fan and really need someone to work where they can, and she does. I always leave feeling 100x better. The facility itself is cute, super clean, and really relaxing. The bathrooms are spotless. The front desk woman is so friendly and the entire checkout is always easy and simple. I cannot wait to go back post birth for a real deep tissue with Mariah! read more

I love this place and would recommend it time and time again! Everyone is so kind and pleasant. Will is a great massage therapist- I leave feeling so relaxed every time. I was given a gift certificate from my dear friends for my birthday last July, but have been super busy with my new baby. 6 months later, I finally booked a (well needed) specialty massage with Kaitlyn and she was fantastic! She listened to my needs and provided the perfect firmness and techniques to soothe all my aches and pains. I appreciate that they offer you water before and after your massage and loved the chai ginger tea afterwards too. All staff provide professional and friendly service. I'll definitely be back! FYI I parked on the street on Coit and Quimby just behind Plainfield, but there is metered street parking and nearby lots. read more

First of all I have to give a shout out to the staff at The Amway Grand Plaza. We were only in town for one day and they were all booked up for massages so they recommended Urban Massage. It is somewhat reminiscent of Miracle on 34th street and I my wife and I really appreciated the referral. Anna was phenomenal. She did our massages back to back (cleaning and sanitizing between of course). I wish we lived closer to Grand Rapids because we would definitely get her for a massage again. Friendly and professional, she quickly determined the appropriate level of pressure and areas to focus on then went to work. Like most massages, it was over too quickly but we got every mi Ute we paid for and came out refreshed and rejuvenated. I would recommend Anna without reservation and if the other massage therapist are as good as she is I extend the same endorsement for Urban Massage overall. The gal out front was pleasant and helpful. The facility was clean and well maintained. All of the aromas of essential oils you would expect were present. Relaxing therapeutic music rounded out the experience. Thank you read more

Great job to Urban Massage! My husband and I were gifted a couples massage and we enjoyed a relaxing session. They were professional, courteous, facility was clean and well-kept, atmosphere calm. read more

Great Atmosphere and attention to detail. The pricing is standard and for all the guys and gals out there trying to figure out a birthday gift or upcoming Valentines Day gift, GET A GIFT CARD FROM URBAN!! I have had many great massages here but massages with Jenifer are the best. She books up quickly, so if you want her you will have to plan ahead. There is an app you can get to look at all the staffs calendars and choose a day and time that works for you. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful! I purchased a massage coupon for my Manager before she left for maternity leave. She was extremely satisfied with her experience as well! Thanks Urban Massage! read more

Urban Massage is a great find for my self care. Like many of us, I have lower back pain thanks to a minor back injury in 2012 + sitting at a desk for most of my waking hours. My therapist, Elliot, understands my problem areas and knows how to address them during deep tissue massages *plus* provides stretches/exercises that I can do in between my sessions. I've already seen an improvement in my back pain and everything that's connected to it (shoulders, hips, etc.) The space is clean, stylish, and relaxing. I always feel comfortable and well taken care of. They check me in quickly, Elliot is always ready within minutes of my arrival, and they have water (and tea, if I want it) as I check out. Logistics: You can book appointments online via the MINDBODY app, but you may have to wait a week or two, if you want a popular time (like after or before work). Stil a convenient feature if you, like me, hate talking on the phone. :-) Parking has never been tricky for me as one of the meters is usually available right in front, on Plainfield. read more

I had a very stiff neck and shoulder when I made my appointment with UM. I found they were excellent, massaging and stretching my troubled neck. I got a lot of relief from the pain I was having, which continued to abate days after my massage. The facility was exceptionally clean with a relaxing ambience. The staff was very friendly and the cost reasonable. I look forward to getting my next massage! read more

I just left Urban Massage and felt the need to post a review before I even got home. This place is adorable, relaxing, charming and all around wonderful. Bri was an amazing therapist who took time to understand my injuries and work through a plan for treatment to help give me some relief. She is a miracle worker. If you are looking for the best, don't go any further! read more

I really enjoy the massages here! I've been coming for the past 3 years and they have consistently good quality massages. I've tried most of the therapists and have loved the majority of my massages. I always get deep tissue massage or ashiatsu and have a great result. The therapists are open to your suggestions of what has worked in the past (i.e. stretching, etc) and do a great job working on problem areas. I always leave feeling relaxed and that I've gotten my money's worth! They always are kind, professional and make sure that the pressure they use is appropriate. Prices are slightly higher than other places, but in my experience, the quality of the massage is worth it. Free parking in front on the street or in the back of the building in a small lot. There is a reduced price if you become a member and get monthly massages. Very clean, peaceful space. You can use an app to book online, which I really like! (NOTE: I get the 85 minute massages so I'm not sure how this compares to shorter ones). read more

Fantastic facility and exceptionally skilled therapists. Been a member for over 3 years. Everyone will find them to provide a great massage. Brianna, the owner, has a gift for hiring skilled therapists and providing a great ambiance. Always treated with care and respect. Customer service is foremost on all the therapists' mind. I have had many injuries that they have helped resolve. I won't go anywhere else in Grand Rapids. read more

You will not regret coming here! Perfect atmosphere and affordable prices. Caitlin is hands-down the best massage therapist I've ever had!

Just had a massage with Sara. She can do the best neck and shoulder massage ever. I've had over 100 massages all over the world and this was one of the best. She also knows how to get into the deep muscles in the hips without hurting you. read more

On both occasions that I came here I had terrible shoulder pain and both times I left feeling fantastic. One time I saw Jenifer, and the second time I saw an intern. The massages were relaxing while but also went deep enough to work out the tension that I had in my shoulders. I think Urban Massage is reasonably priced for the quality of service you recieve - It is cheaper than many of the spas in the area that I currently live, so when I need a massage I try to schedule it for a weekend I'll be in Grand Rapids. read more

My husband and I always look forward to our visits to Urban Massage. We have both seen multiple massage therapists and leave feeling rejuvenated, every time. I have seen Megan, Kelsey and Dovie and all are amazing! We appreciate how attentive the staff is especially since we both have old injuries. I ended up joining their monthly club so I get a discount every visit now. We have had massages at other places in GR and never again after finding Urban Massage! read more

While visiting my boyfriend in Grand Rapids, we decided to look for a place for me to get a massage because of some back pain I was struggling with. We were out and about so walked in to inquire, as he had recently met one of the massage therapist that worked there. He was greeted warmly with eye contact, I was not. I'm not that familiar with Grand Rapids so I expected to be treated as I normally would when I walk into an establishment in a normal city. I'm an educated , professional black woman from Chicago, while my boyfriend is white. I immediately felt a sense of snobbish superiority from the receptionist. I decided to shrug it off. We asked a few questions and asked if they had availability that day. By this point the receptionist seemed to have warmed up a little. She stated that they had an opening at 3 but would see if someone could take me sooner. Which was very nice and considerate of her. As she is looking into it, one is the massage therapist came out, and she asked her if she would take me. Even though I was standing right there, this girl/woman didn't acknowledge me, smile or anything and pretty much refused even though she was open. The receptionist asked her a couple of times and to make it easier and because I wouldn't want the negative energy of that masseuse anywhere near me, I let the receptionist know that it was no problem for me to wait until the 3:00 opening. (It was about 2:15 at this point). The receptionist offered me water or tea, which again, was very nice if her. As I sat and waited I chatted with the receptionist about the town and things to do. I witnessed approximately 3-4 people come out after receiving there services. They were asked how it was and we're all given water and told to stay hydrated. The normal things you hear after a massage. Finally, close to 3, my masseuse Chelsea came out and introduced herself and walked me back. She was very sweet and she did a great job. As I walked out and back towards the reception area, my boyfriend was there waiting for me and had taken care of the payment. Chelsea stood there and nicely said how are you feeling. I said great. I wasn't offered water or any advice. So I asked her is she had any recommendations for me. She recommended a stretch that could help. I then asked her if she thought, due to the injury I had in my back of it would be good for me to come back and how often. She said yes and said maybe every 2 weeks to a month. Here's my problem with this last part. In any normal situation, wouldn't the masseuse suggest me coming back if they knew it would help?! And it would be business for them. I literally saw her have a conversation with an earlier client about coming back. Giving him water after his massage. Why didn't she offer me a card? Or water. Why did I have to pull teeth for a recommendation? Does she not want the business? I told her i would take her card as I knew I would be back regularly in the area, but after much thought and consideration, I will never go back to that establishment. I felt as if they don't have many black people frequent their establishment and possibly that they didn't want me or any other black person in their establishment. Is this Urban Massage or is this how things are in the little ho dunk town of Grand Rapids?! So, I'm giving the receptionist 3 stars and the establishment 1. Treat all your customers with equality and respect. read more

Urban Massage Grand Rapids are total heroes. Thanks to Brianna & the team, I was able to arrange an amazing massage for a group of friends across in the U.S. all the way from London, England! They were so accommodating and made my crazy idea a reality. I'm so impressed and absolutely love this business - it's independent business owners like this that deserve all the praise they receive. I would not have been able to make a group of people very happy without them! I hope anyone in the area who has considered using Urban Massage, but hasn't yet, gets on with it. Seriously, even if you live 5000 miles away like I do, you can trust Urban Massage to give you the best service. And, according to my friends, an incredible massage. Honestly. Heroes. read more

I've gotten a lot of massages from different places over the years (everything from cheaper Asian "bodywork" joints to high-end hotel/resort spas) and I can honestly say the deep tissue massage that Rachel provides is by far the best I've ever experienced. She's so nice and friendly, and will work with you to provide as much pressure as you need - she's so well trained that she can locate and work on any muscle knots you may have, and even incorporates ashiatsu into her routine. Definitely plan accordingly and book ahead because her schedule fills up quickly. read more

This was my first time here and I couldn't be more pleased (thanks, Yelp!). Just had a fabulous massage with Jason. He did a really thorough job of working through my painful shoulder. Love Ashiatsu and I'm very choosy where I go (as a massage therapist myself) - this is my favorite place to get my own body work done.

I'm so zen. Here's the story; I hurt my neck and had major discomfort. While visiting Grand Rapids I Google'd "massage therapy" near my friends house and found Urban Massage. They called in a therapist for me and Denine was great and even gave me an extra 15 minutes to remedy my pain. read more

My husband & I are visiting from out of town & decided to get a couples massage at Urban Massage. I am so glad we did. I had Jen who was great. Definitely one of the best massages I've had. My husband had Kelsey who took the time after his massage to talk to him about his experience & what he could do to improve his aches & pains in the future. It was his first time getting a massage & the rest of the day he raved about how good he felt. It's too bad we're not from around here cause we would definitely go back!! read more

LOVE this place! Whenever I have a day off, the first thing I do is schedule a massage here. All of my massages have been immensely relaxing, but I do recommend trying a few different masseuses to find which one most closely matches your style. Obnoxious experience. Here is the experience when trying to book an appointment for an ill parent. - Called to book an appointment during business hours and received a voicemail -Did not leave message figuring I would call back at a better time -Received a call back from them about an hour later informing me that I called and they missed it. This is a nice gestures, but I did not leave a message because I wanted to call back when I had the time, not wile working -We found a mutual time and right before hanging up was told by the way we need you credit card information -After explaining that I do not have my parents credit card information, I was asked for mine - When asking why they need that they said we require it up front in case you do not show up -I have booked several massages at several places in the past and never had this issue. What type of business starts a relationship with a new client with an attitude of hey we don't trust you. While I am sure that there are some people who do not show up, I am also sure the vast majority do. For those that do not, this is just a cost of doing business. Imagine trying to schedule work on your car and having to give your credit card just I case you don't show up so you can be charged. - Simply an obnoxious experience. Booked with another more reasonable provider and look forward to that appointment. read more
