The best beach bar in PV. A 2 week trip means at least 4 days here for us. Service is top notch - on our most recent trip Gencito looked after us and he went above and beyond - always checking in and getting fresh drinks and food. I love their fresh made green juice - great any time. Great salsa, guacamole, and chips. Good wings, decent burgers, and tasty tacos. My favourite spot is the big comfy couch and chairs - this time we changed it up and sat at a table with beach chairs and loungers - highly recommend!

Swell was a great place to plop on the beach especially when it is a crazy hot day. So I was originally super confused on how this place works. Basically you go and tell them you want to get drinks or food and want to sit on the beach. I think they should lead you to some chairs. They don't really bother you to leave as long as you are ordering stuff here or there. My boyfriend and I spent a few hours on one of the beach chairs under the umbrella and it was a great way to enjoy the beach without being in the sweltering hot sun. We were able to read our books, put our feet in the sand, and get cocktails. The chairs and tables are pretty close together (but not SUPER close together) so it can feel a bit crowded. Furthermore, you do get accosted by locals selling crafts and other things constantly. However that seems to happen no matter where you are on the beach. The servers are good about being attentive if you need them though and leaving you alone if you are relaxing. They promptly bring you whatever you order. The prices are kind of expensive but like normal American prices. Honestly it's worth it for the shade!

Great service, decent prices, nice views. I had fish tacos, not loaded - very little veggies and no Pico. My friend had a sandwich - substantial. The sangria is good, simple, not sweet. They have their regulars, and they treat everyone well.

For the past 3 years I have spent all of my beach time at Swell. Our recent trip (September 2020) consisted of 6 days in a row of the amazing food and service at Swell. The staff could not be any more authentic or accommodating. Speedy, Josue, Jose - all beyond compare. Everything anyone could need for a day at the beach is there for you in an instant. The ceviche is spectacular, as is the shrimp burrito. The prices are good and the drinks come quickly. Finally, there is no loud music here. It is possible to read, relax, chat with friends, and make new ones. Swell really is the definition of paradise.

We spent a few days hanging out at Swell using their loungers with beach service. All of the staff were welcoming, friendly and were nice enough to move chairs and umbrellas around to keep you in the shade. We mostly just had drinks there but did enjoy a plate of steak tacos Prices for food and drinks were reasonable. They also breakdown all your food and drinks so you know you are not being overcharged

Best brunch in PV! Say hi to Alfredo if you see him!

Love the good food and cold drinks right on the beach! Ask for Alfredo, he's the best!

Hard to find but worth it-- had an awesome server named Muriel, and enjoyed the beach and tapas/cocktails (french friesssss and passionfruit). Would come back again when I need a massage on the beach, snacks and drinks-- the perfect basic beach day.

Be careful. They'll nickel and dime you and you'll never know it. They'll charged you 90 pesos for lemon wedges and salt.

After looking up good places to go, Bar La Playa came up- and I'm sure glad it did! First, it's easy to get to if you're coming from North. Our Uber was easily able to drop us off without getting stuck in gridlock traffic that can affect certain roads of this area. Additionally, the location isn't a high-traffic area for tourists. That meant we were able to walk up and immediately find seats. Second, the service was top notch. I didn't get the bartenders name, but he was very welcoming, friendly, hospitable and spoke English. Just an overall cool dude and was glad to support his business. Third, the drinks were great. Finally, we were drinking 'real' drinks, not the watered down sugary stuff at the hotel. We were very satisfied with the taste of the drinks. Fourth, the prices are really good. Mexico has gotten expensive and this was a sigh of relief. You can have a great time here without feeling like you paid an arm and a leg. I highly-highly recommend making Bar La Playa your first stop when coming to this area. You're going to get great service, great drinks and all at a price that is reasonable and fair.

The atmosphere is upbeat and energetic, with loud music that really sets a fun, social tone. They also have plenty of seating, including outdoor options, which is perfect for enjoying the warm Puerto Vallarta evenings. The biggest draw here is the drinks. Everything is very affordable, making it easy to try a few different options. The mango and tamarindo frozen margaritas were standouts--super refreshing, packed with flavor, and exactly what you want in a tropical setting. They were easily the highlight of the visit. Service was decent--nothing particularly memorable, but staff were friendly enough and service was fairly efficient considering how busy it can get. Overall, this isn't a fancy spot, but that's part of the charm. It's a great place to relax, enjoy good drinks without spending too much, and soak in a fun, casual vibe. Perfect for ending the night on a high note.

They use tanqueray as their house gin which is unusual but a pleasant surprise as it actually happens to be my preferred brand. I didn't have high hopes for the martini - I find that outside of major U.S. cities places end up putting in way too much vermouth - and it actually ended up being fantastic. It didn't taste too different from what I would make at home which is probably the best thing I could say about a martini (for my own personal taste). I tried a fruitier one - the Gigi - as my second and final drink. It was good but I'm just not a fruity drink person. I just wasn't equipped to handle another standard martini lol. The ambiance is phenomenal - it was both casual and comfortable yet classy. The crowd was much older than I expected although not in a bad way at all. There were lots of expats in their 50s and 60s. I was worried it would be a rowdy rooftop and by contrast it was actually a very chill vibe. Only complaint is that the bathroom is outside of the venue down the stairs and you need a key to enter, which was a bit annoying bc I wanted to use the restroom before I left and I forgot to ask for the key on my way out. Small annoyance and certainly wouldn't prevent me from going back.
