Happen to be dining next door and walked in to ask about getting a tattoo done that I had been considering. I immediately liked the vibe and attitude of the shop, we discussed what I was looking for and they said they would draw something up. I scheduled my appointment for a few days later since I had plenty of time left on my trip. What Siobhan drew up was prefect and fit my calf exactly. She is extremely talented and I couldn't be happier with her work and how the tattoo turned out!! Thank you Siobhan. From the moment you walk in, the shop feels welcoming and comfortable. It's a family-run business, which really shows in the atmosphere and how they treat people. My understanding is that Adam has been tattooing for 30+ years. His wife runs the front desk, and his daughter, Siobhan Hammon, is also one of the artists. I worked with Siobhan on a Hawaiian islands tattoo on my bicep. She was polite, professional, and ready to get to work. They were also great about working with my schedule. I was able to put a deposit down the day before, and everything was smooth and straightforward. They provided very detailed aftercare instructions and even shared some helpful information I didn't know about numbing options and the healing process. I followed the instructions exactly, and the tattoo healed quickly. I also want to give a special shoutout to Adam. Whether he's the sole owner or part of the ownership team, I don't want to misspeak, but his presence alone made the visit feel worth it. He clearly cares about his clients and represents the industry in a really positive way. Thank you for a great experience and for an awesome birthday gift from my wife. Until next time. I've had 11 tattoos done, all in the Hawaiian Islands (first one on Oahu) with the remaining 10 all done on Maui, and the last six done at Sweet Trade Tattoo, where Adam (owner/master tattoo artist, renowned painter and author), with Siobhan, his ultra-talented daughter, adding her unique style to the mix, I would highly recommend either of these two artists add their work to my "body" of art...! I've included the most recent work, Nov 7, 2025 and my most cherished, the memory of my best friend of 17 years, who Adam memorialized, Titan, to utter perfection!!! A Perfect 10 When on Maui, get an appointment early, or risk missing out on the best tattooing on the island!!! Mahalo The late T and me read more

I have nothing but great things to say about Sweet Trade Tattoo. From the moment we walked in to the shop, we knew this was the place for us to be. Very cool vibe and family feel. Adam was so cool and easy to talk to. Very knowledgeable and listened to our requests. Siobhan did my sister's, daughter's, and my tattoo. She was super sweet and is very talented. We all LOVE THEM. It was a pleasure meeting Athena as well. This whole team is great and i appreciated this experience more than I can say. Tattoos are a personal decision and there are many tattoos shops to choose from. If I were you I would hands down come here. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Adam, Siobhan, and Athena. Perfect!! The shop is so kind, and the skills are genuine and creative. Adam did my turtle on December and his Daughter did my husband's. They came out perfectly. Waited until 2 days before we left the island as we were still active outdoors. Had a 9 hour flight home with zero discomfort. The colour's are AMAZING!! Looking forward to our return this year for our next ones! Aloha and Mahalo xx read more

Horrible customer service, just grateful they showed it so quickly. Came in with my freshly 18 year old nephew, he knew exactly what he wanted, had a quick consultation, made an appointment, left a deposit. Easy as cake! I wasn't exactly sure what i wanted, but had been itching for a tattoo for a while - had a few ideas. Started throwing a few out there, wouldnt say they were overly friendly or helpful in helping me decide/brainstorm but hey, its my body and my responsibility to figure out what i want so i wasn't too bothered by their unhelpfulness as I was mature enough to acknowledge my indecisiveness. Came up with an idea i liked - showed them an example. They actually lit up! Seemed kinda stoked on the idea, so now i did too. Cool. Next up i mentioned where i wanted it. Below my ankle, towards my foot. Oh boy. They tell me "nah you want it here! And point to their shin." I tell them "no, i really dont want it there, i actually really want it down towards my ankle." Now instead of being educational and saying something like "hey cool idea, unfortunately we cant/dont/wont be able to do that, as it wouldnt turn out/heal right" they get what can only be described as pissed and offended about where **i** want a tattoo suddenly come at me in the most condescending manner. Adam stands up hurriedly with anger, hands on hips and barks at me "DO YOU KNOW WHAT WE ARE? WE ARE AN ART STUDIO WE ARE NOT A STREET TATTOO SHOP!" and continues on about how elite they are. Wow! What could have been a helpful or constructive conversation certainly was not that. I told him i didnt think we were gonna be a match and left. Got to the car and told the story to my husband. Was i pissed telling the story? Absolutely! For an "elite art studio", i couldn't believe how condescending they were. My nephew, now uncomfortable with this guy, calls back an hour later to let him know hes unfortunately going to cancel his appointment. Adam asked him "why, did your mean girlfriend say no? we heard everything she said outside the shop!" My nephew explained that no, he had just changed his mind on his own. I later called the shop back and kindly asked when we could drop in to grab the deposit back. Again, instead of maturely explaining that we were going to have the forfeit the deposit, among MANY other hateful things, adam SCREAMS at me "HAVE THE DAY YOU FUCKING DESERVE, KAREN" and hangs up on me. I cannot speak to the quality of their tattoos, who knows, maybe they truly are as wonderfully skilled as he barked at me that he is. All i can speak to is the disrespectful nature in which they run this shop and treat their customers. What a hot head! I am eternally grateful that he showed his colors as quickly as he did so that my nephew and i could avoid having a permanent mark on our bodies by this guy or anyone else he employs. Just beware of the personality behind the (tattoo) gun in this place. read more

I finally saw my first octopus while on a snorkeling trip! I told my husband, "I'm getting a tattoo of my octopus before we leave!" That same day we stopped at Sweet Trade Tattoo and spoke with Adam. I explained my wish. We looked at a couple rough black and white sketches I found online. Adam discussed size, placement and set up a time for the next day. The next day, Adam provided me with a couple sketches. Once I chose my favorite, he discovered the best location on my thigh where it would work well with my muscles. Within 30-49 minutes he was done! Very professional, thoughtful of what I wanted and where I wanted it. I hope to use them again on my next visit...maybe I'll ask him to expand the "seascape " around my octopus. read more

Called to inquire about an appt and a lady picked up the phone. She stated she had to wait for "Adam" to which I said that's perfectly fine and that I would call back. Called back the next day when Adam was in and I could hear him screaming at a customer in the background. Decided not to entertain a tattoo as what I overheard scared me. I can't speak to their services, but Adam sounded very rude, uneducated and unprofessional to whomever he ideas talking to. read more

Adam and Siobhan are amazing. Adam is the one that tattooed me. I showed up the day before and we talked shop for a bit have him artistic freedom. Trust me I'm not very trustful but Adam made me very comfortable with his knowledge and suggestions. He was very excited and i could tell this would be a great experience. The next day i showed up right on time he was set and ready to go. We went about 2 hours maybe a little less but he got it done quite swift but the tattoo came out amazing. I'll let you guys be the judge. Will definitely be going back to Hawaii mainly to get tatted by this talented artist. Don't worry Si i will get something done by you one day as well. I was visiting Maui with two close girlfriends to celebrate my 60th birthday and retirement. I've been wanting to get a tattoo for a while and finally decided to do it on our last night. I was a little nervous after reading a recent review but decided to focus on the many positive reviews. Adam and his family graciously agreed to squeeze me in to their busy afternoon. We immediately liked the vibe. I knew what I wanted and where I wanted it - a plumeria blossom on my outer thigh. Adam specializes in flowers, fish, and other native designs. He did a beautiful job and was also great at talking to keep me relaxed since it was my first. I trusted his judgement on the best placement since he has so many years of experience. It turned out perfectly - exactly what I wanted. "''Tis but a scratch!" Highly recommend. read more

My Fiancée and I walked in on our last day on the island to see if they could do a couple tattoos for us. They were able to have us come back in about an hour and a half which was awesome! This is a family run tattoo shop which are always my favorite because the atmosphere is always so down to earth and that's huge for me. I asked about a stitch tattoo with some watercolor added in. The artist did an ABSOLUTELY amazing job! It's absolutely BEAUTIFUL! My husband wanted a turtle but was open to the artist to decide the design. We both left extremely happy!! This shop is the only one I'll go to in the islands. Every time I'm in Maui they've made time for me to fit in a spot. Love the vibes, the art, the quality of the tattoos. I don't mind spending a pretty penny for quality work and that's all I've ever gotten when I go here. Please, if you're on Maui (or anywhere, really) call Adam, Athena, or Siobhan. The process was quick, consultation solid and they got to know what I wanted, and gave advice when asked for. When I let them run with an idea they gave a detailed explanation of what each symbolism represented. No one in Seattle or San Diego has ever gone that far above and beyond. Something special- I got a tattoo and didn't go back to Hawaii for 4 years. To my surprise my tattoo was in watercolor and hung up on the wall! I've never been so honored my design was on display. read more

My partner and I went to Maui, and we looked everywhere for a tattoo parlor that speaks to us, and Sweet Trade did not disappoint at all! I got to consult with Adam for my tattoo, and the process was very smooth. Adam was able to come up with a design that encompasses all that the original photo expresses touched with his own creativity, and the best part was that everything was clearly communicated. The shop is very well lit and super clean too, so I felt super safe getting a tattoo there. My Airbnb was in Kihei and let me tell you: it is so worth the drive!
