Rachel G. (think tattoo-artist-meets-modern-yogi) is a special kind of Tattoo Artist. She believes the art of tattooing is a collaborative, sacred, ritual experience for both parties involved and she takes it very seriously. I was very appreciative of her respect for that angle on tattooing. Also, I was grateful that she put in the time and effort to discuss ideas and concepts for the design and layout of the piece with me BEFORE our first session. Something fewer and fewer talented tattoo artists are willing to do these days. It may cost a bit more but believe me, it's always worth it to pay extra for design time. I've had sleeves for 12 years and really wanted to shift the theme by adding work-around black work but was having a hard time finding anyone A) remotely interested... and B) reasonably affordable in LA, where I live. A friend referred me to Rachel and she responded to my email with curiosity and enthusiasm. A good sign in my book. We had our first session two weeks ago and it was a very cool tattoo experience. She was super chill, friendly, organized, clean, and focused. She has a nice light-medium consistent touch with the gun. My least painful tattoo experience by far. I met this extra exquisite being when I first moved to the island a couple years ago through a mutual yoga studio. During class I couldn't take my eyes off her strength, individuality, and energy! I didn't say anything to her since I was being shy-girl. Over the next several months I noticed other women in the same yoga studio was extraordinary tattoos that popped uniqueness. I finally asked two ladies I admired (I think one was Megan, haha) where they got their work done. Rachel G. is an amazing artist! I had a few orchids tattooed on my shoulder blade from a few years back. I wanted Rachel design the orchid foliage down my arm in a somewhat realistic botanical style and end above my elbow. The orchid this tattoo is based on is one that I have and is a special plant in my collection. When it came time for my appointment she was able to look at the actual plant and quickly drew what she saw on my arm following the curves and tone of my bicep. I'm an artist and what I appreciated in this moment of creation was her instinctive ability to give the sketch layers that added to it's depth. As she started putting the color in the drawing came to life. She used vibrante greens, ranging from emerald to neon. Her shading is dramatic and yet shows a tremendous attention to very important subtle detail. With all of this put together she brought this orchid to life! I get so many compliments on it and often people stop me to tell me how nice it is. My boyfriend wakes up and kisses my shoulder every morning... often telling me how sexy it is. Getting a tatto from Rachel was a fantastic experience. She was patient and creative throughout the design process, elevating my chaotic ideas into a beautiful work of art. It took 50 hour over the course of 7 months to complete my arm, back, and chest piece, and I couldn't be happier. She's an incredibly talented artist, who can understand what you are looking for in a piece even when you can't fully articulate it. My piece has a lot of spiritual significance for me, and she respected that without being weird about it. She also made me laugh to help me forget about the pain, and played great music. She has decent rates that don't take into account how much time and effort she puts into making the drawings, and she is committed to being sure the customer is pleased. She tends to fill up, so book ahead of time, and after the consultation a deposit is required before she will start the drawings. Highly, highly recommended. read more

Rachel G. is an incredibly talented artist, and tattoo artist. She is super duper nice, offers many options for artwork, and delivered exactly my vision for my add-on arm/shoulder piece. She seamlessly transitioned the existing artwork on my arm with the new design piece. She accommodated my request for trying to get the entire piece completed in a few days. She was a trooper tattooing for 8 straight hours on first day, then we finished a couple days later for another 2 hours. Her line work is detailed and right on, and her sense of color and balance is perfect. She's a creative and smart business woman, and her shop manager Megan is super helpful and organized too. Rachel is wonderful to work with. I met her through her yoga class and then discovered that she was also a tattoo artist. I had a tattoo on my foot for over 15 years that I hated but out of fear of ending up with something worse I never covered it it up. I've been searching for an artist to cover a tattoo on my back for about two years now, when a friend recommended Rachel from Exotic Eye after she had a great experience there. Turns out two years of waiting paid off. Rachel was able to really take in my ideas (and collage) of what I was envisioning. I'm met at Rachel seven years ago when my step daughter was getting a tattoo in Maui Hawaii. I never could understand why anybody would want to get a tattoo and ruin their body. Well maybe about a year later I myself got a tattoo from Rachel. And after that tattoo I said I will never ever ever ever get another tattoo. I recently got my second tattoo from Rachel. I started by picking out some clip art from the internet and sending Rachel an image and a description of my idea. She came up with an beautiful custom design for me. I really enjoy the experience. Rachel has a very fun and relaxing presence that made it easier to sit through the 4+ hour appointment. She said she had a new needle that makes it less painful and heal quicker. I have to say that this tattoo is healing greatl and I absolutely love the design. I had an awesome experience with Rachel at Exotic Eye and would highly recommend her. I wanted to get a tattoo to remember my birthday vacation to Maui with my great friends and Rachel worked really hard to fit us into her schedule. Rachel G is as talented of an artist as you will find anywhere, and we are just lucky to have her here in Maui. I have a tattoo by RachelG and every day it inspires me to continue to unfurl into the depth that I am. RacheG drew my design after I told her what I wanted and how it will signify my journey. She added her artistic touch and there it is, three Lotus flowers, one in bud, one partially open and one completely open, with mandala's underneath for support of this continuing opening. Rachel was the best person to have my first tattoo done with. I'm 66 years old and have always wanted to have my son's name put on my forearm but because of my professional career, I didn't do it.
