I visited this bakery while I was in Columbia. I can just barely give three stars but I am a generous person. As other reviews have noted, the lady at the front desk was on the phone when I arrived and did not get off the phone right away. I ordered 4 dozen cupcakes for an event. I was disappointed in the size and how the logo looked on them. For the price I paid (approx.. 158.00), I thought they could look better. They tasted wonderful but it did not look as pretty as they tasted. Possibly good for a child's birthday but I don't recommend them for a fancy event such as a wedding, bridal shower or even a casual event like mine. I didn't feel appreciated either. I had been told about this place but have never stepped foot in this place. A coworker of mine had stopped by here and I asked her to grab me a slice of cake. I got the caramel cake slice and it was literally one of the best pieces of cake that I had ever had. It was moist, and just plain delicious! Well if your looking for a place that specializes in red velvet cakes look no further than Main Street. I can always find a cake that I've never heard about or even tried. The prices are really reasonable from the big cakes to the small treats like cupcakes for only 1.75 a piece. Don't be fooled by the exterior of the building they sell to the public and cater to private events. I gave this bakery another try and once again was very disappointed in the customer service. When I called I was trying to inquire about the size of the round cake and the number of people it would serve. The lady in the Phone was obviously annoyed and began talking over me. So I asked her did I somehow offend her when I got i the phone? She tried to lighten her tone but it was clearly a tone of passive aggressiveness. So we got through the order but I didn't have a good feeling about the experience and should've just canceled but it was last minute for my son's 1st birthday party so I didn't cancel because in the past their cakes were good despite their attitudes. Big mistake!!!!!! This time they totally messed my order up. I ordered a round cake but they made a sheet cake. That wasn't the worst part. The cake was extremely dry and not fresh. It tasted like lard. I mean absolutely awful! We ended up throwing it away. Good thing I ordered cupcakes from Publix too otherwise it would have been a disaster! Publix cupcakes were soooooo much better. I wish I had just ordered the cake from there too!! It was clearly frozen for what seems like a year. I don't care how desperate I am, I will never return to this establishment. The staff has the worst attitudes! And I'm close to thinking that the lady did this intentionally because based on me checking her attitude. It's not a welcoming environment and this experience just proved that they don't appreciate patronage especially black support! And WE wonder why WE don't support one another. I used to be a faithful customer for years and years. I have been purchasing since at least 2010. I would always stop by and grab a slice of red velvet and cupcakes for my kids. I haven't been in awhile but saw someone post sweets today and decided to treat myself. The quality and quantity has declined!!!! The red velvet now has too much chocolate and really dry. I don't know who decided to change the recipe but they need to go back. It wasn't even the same bright red that it was previously! I have searched from Virginia to South Carolina and so far this was the best one. This is a mom and pop bakery that the locals raved about when I was visiting the area and it lived up to the hype. The prices are very reasonable with slices around $4 and they have cupcakes, personal sized cakes, and whole cakes. There are also is a variety of cookies and brownies that would make anyone with a sweet tooth feel like they are in heaven. They have a rewards system that if you buy x number of cake slices you'll get one free. Be sure to call to verify if they are open because the hours on here are incorrect. I'm really not understanding where all these great reviews are coming from. I went there today with my family and we brought three slices of cake all together two red velvets and a yellow cake with some white frosting. I'm only reviewing the red velvets since I didn't try the other. The red velvet cake did not taste like red velvet at all you could tell it's was just red food coloring added into the cake. It tasted like coconut and larded it was not tasty at all I'm glad I shared the slice with someone because after a few bites I just couldn't do it anymore plus I hate coconut. Wow...just, wow. In town from New York and we needed a last minute birthday cake for my fiancée's brother. This bakery came up in a quick search. From the outside, it didn't seem like a bakery open to the public, but there's a little store in the back. It seems like you usually need to pre-order, but they had an extra red velvet cake that we bought and a few slices of key lime cake. I only tried the red velvet and it was amazing. Moist, fresh cake and delicious sort of cream-cheesey frosting with a hint of coconut. Been shopping with this brand for over 12 years and had my worst experience October 12th. I ordered to large sheet cakes that were $80 total back in August. These cakes were not prepared when I showed up even though they made me schedule a time for pick up because they close early on weekends. They made me wait in Columbia for over 2 hours for them to complete a cake that should've been done way early. The cake was not well done nor precut. The lady working promised me 50% off for the trouble and after not receiving my refund I called the business today and was told by a guy that they will not be giving me a refund and basically that it was my fault because I took the rush job cakes that they gave me due to there order not being prepared. Each time I get an itch for something sweet, I head on over to this hidden gem. The cakes are delicious and the cupcakes to die for. Everything is fresh and made with love on site and from scratch. The staff is always pleasant and helpful, too. I have not actually placed an order for a cake in advance here, but that is their primary business. When we picked it up it looked like a child had decorated it ,it looked sloppy and unprofessional. the cake was just a yellow box cake with red food coloring in it. It was dry and my guests did not enjoy the dry red food coloring fake red velvet cake. I called and went to the bakery to talk with someone in charge to no avail. I feel very sorry for whoever is the new owner is. This level of service will result in financial ruin. I saw the sketchy reviews on google but I figured I would go try anyway I know how people can be, but clearly I should've taken these reviews more seriously. Walked in it's a desk right at the door. Woman on the phone didn't acknowledge me and my co-worker just kept texting or scrolling on her phone. Had a child next to her. That's the first bad impression. Next it's definitely a dusty smell in this location to go along with the dusty look and presentation. The baked goods are out on shelves. Shelves that look like they belong in someone dining room from the 70's. Next the cake slices are $6 and this would be ok if they where cut correct. It's the audacity for me and these slices are so small to be asking $6. As I said everything is out on shelves. This is a concern because dairy products are suppose to be refrigerated. Not sitting out in a hot dusty location. Next me and my co worker are checking out it's a 20 inch long piece of hair on the desk. I'm turned off completely but I don't want to be rude it's no need to even address it because we won't be back. Not only because of the non greeting we got, the dusty smell, and look plus the over priced cake slice. The cake was dry as hell! It didn't taste Fresh at all. Very poor customer service, false advertisement, and unprofessional. They advertised that orders of $25.00 or more receive 10% discount during the month of April. Went to order on a cake April 29th (for pick up on May 3rd) and was told all orders have to be paid in full at the time of ordering. Because if this, I requested the advertised 10% discount since I was ordering and paying for the order during tr month of April. I was told that because my pick up date was in May, the discount would not be honored. After speaking with two different people about why I would not be honored, I was told "that's just the way it is" and "it SUPPOSED to mean order that are ordered, paid, and picked up in April". After I pointed it out that it said nothing about pick up and it specified "orders", I once again asked if they would honor it and if not, I would order my cake elsewhere. The lady I spoke to said " well gone ahead then"! And yes, it was more important that she not honor a small $3.60 discount than to receive $32.40 and continued business from me and anyone I refer.
