I visited this bakery while I was in Columbia. I can just barely give three stars but I am a generous person. As other reviews have noted, the lady at the front desk was on the phone when I arrived and did not get off the phone right away. The slice of cake that I bought was sort of on the dry side and not very much frosting. I felt like I had wasted money buying the slice... totally not what I would expect for the price that I paid. And as other reviewers have noted, the place could use a spruce up. read more

There cakes are disgusting now. So I finally found the original owners!! They left and there new business is La More Cakes and its on North Main in small plaza. The ladies who worked in sweet temptations are not there. They took their recipes with them. They have been at the North Main Street location for 3 years. I stumbled upon them about w months ago. The cakes are delicious and are like the old sweet temptations use to be. read more

I ordered 4 dozen cupcakes for an event. I was disappointed in the size and how the logo looked on them. For the price I paid (approx.. 158.00), I thought they could look better. They tasted wonderful but it did not look as pretty as they tasted. Possibly good for a child's birthday but I don't recommend them for a fancy event such as a wedding, bridal shower or even a casual event like mine. I didn't feel appreciated either. The whole exchange was weird. Customer service was non-existent. 2 stars because the cupcakes were editable. read more

Sweet Temptations Bakery - For the price I paid these were tiny. They could also made the size ratio for the Yelp logo a little better. - Bakeries Near Me - Columbia, South Carolina

I had been told about this place but have never stepped foot in this place. A coworker of mine had stopped by here and I asked her to grab me a slice of cake. I got the caramel cake slice and it was literally one of the best pieces of cake that I had ever had. It was moist, and just plain delicious! I can't really say too much about the building or the establishment or the staff. I think I will stop by there. read more

The order and payment process was fast. I selected the red velvet cake presliced and while it was good there was no chocolate in it like traditional red velvet cakes. read more

Well if your looking for a place that specializes in red velvet cakes look no further than Main Street. I can always find a cake that I've never heard about or even tried. The prices are really reasonable from the big cakes to the small treats like cupcakes for only 1.75 a piece. Don't be fooled by the exterior of the building they sell to the public and cater to private events. This part of town is making a comeback and you can look forward to many other businesses arriving soon. read more

This is hands down one of the best bakeries in Columbia South Carolina. If you're looking for the best pound cake around this is where you find it. Just good simple baking done right just like your grandmother would have done. I love this place! read more

Their cakes are amazing, and they have a wide variety of reasonably-priced slices. The strawberry cake is my favorite. I enjoy talking with the people who work there. read more

I'm extremely disappointed by the way management and staff handled an incorrect order. Apparently it's all about the money and not their customers happiness and retention. I will no longer purchase anything from this bakery and do not recommend. They're are better bakeries to order from at lower prices and better service. read more

The cake was dry and DISGUSTING!!!!! I was not satisfied at all. For the cost of $6 a slice, I expected a moist cake slice.

I gave this bakery another try and once again was very disappointed in the customer service. When I called I was trying to inquire about the size of the round cake and the number of people it would serve. The lady in the Phone was obviously annoyed and began talking over me. So I asked her did I somehow offend her when I got i the phone? She tried to lighten her tone but it was clearly a tone of passive aggressiveness. So we got through the order but I didn't have a good feeling about the experience and should've just canceled but it was last minute for my son's 1st birthday party so I didn't cancel because in the past their cakes were good despite their attitudes. Big mistake!!!!!! This time they totally messed my order up. I ordered a round cake but they made a sheet cake. That wasn't the worst part. The cake was extremely dry and not fresh. It tasted like lard. I mean absolutely awful! We ended up throwing it away. Good thing I ordered cupcakes from Publix too otherwise it would have been a disaster! Publix cupcakes were soooooo much better. I wish I had just ordered the cake from there too!! It was clearly frozen for what seems like a year. I don't care how desperate I am, I will never return to this establishment. The staff has the worst attitudes! And I'm close to thinking that the lady did this intentionally because based on me checking her attitude. It's not a welcoming environment and this experience just proved that they don't appreciate patronage especially black support! And WE wonder why WE don't support one another. Anyone can setup a business and sell things but maybe this one needs to try taking some business classes to understand customers and professionalism. You actually might grow from where you are into a better space all around. They don't deserve the 1 star that I had to select. There are way better, nicer environments and friendlier bakeries around. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

Planned to pickup 12 cupcakes - they barely had any left and it was at 10 am at the store opening. I took 4 and they came in a plastic bag. I was expecting a box. Disappointed on the quality the cupcakes. Asked when the the fresh cakes will be out, lady said when the baker comes...don't know when. Really?? Poor service. Two is too many stars: read more

I used to be a faithful customer for years and years. I have been purchasing since at least 2010. I would always stop by and grab a slice of red velvet and cupcakes for my kids. I haven't been in awhile but saw someone post sweets today and decided to treat myself. The quality and quantity has declined!!!! The red velvet now has too much chocolate and really dry. I don't know who decided to change the recipe but they need to go back. It wasn't even the same bright red that it was previously! Also it was a smaller slice than they used to offer and more expensive. The cakes are dry now as well. The key lime cake was no where near as moist as it used to be and also lacked the flavor! I'm sooo disappointed. I didn't even finish. I just threw it away! read more

The cakes that come out this bakery are amazing! They are so moist and flavorful. They remind of my aunt's cakes back home. I have ordered two cakes from here for corporate functions and everyone loves them! I really wanted to give this place 5 stars because the cakes are sooo amazing, but I can't because the customer service is HORRIBLE. The first time I ordered a cake from here I ordered a red velvet cake for one of our reps birthday. I paid and picked the cake up and we did not cut it until she came in. When we cut we found it was a pound cake. She was disappointed because red velvet is her favorite, but we ate the cake and it was delicious. When I called the bakery to let them know of their mistake; instead of apologizing the young lady argued with me that I ordered a pond cake and that is what I got. I informed her that I confirmed over the phone and when I picked it up that I got a red velvet and was told that I did. She told me I couldn't get a refund; I explained I didn't want one I just wanted an apology. She begrudgingly gave me one. Even after that experience I went back again thinking it would be different, but it wasn't. I received more horrible customer service. Like I said I really wanted love this bakery. Me fiancé and I seriously contemplated using them for our wedding, but if I got horrible service for a $30.00 cake; I would hate to see the lack of customer service I would receive for a cake that is considerably more costly. read more

Sweet Temptations Bakery - a birthday cake in a box - Bakeries Near Me - Columbia, South Carolina

I have never been so disappointed in my life!!!!! I order a gold drop cake and they presented me with a yellow icing plopped on top of a cake. It had lumps and was just hideous. I can't believe that it even passed inspection. Today is my birthday and I need my cake for my party and well here I am down the street at Main Street bakery waiting on another cake. Not the cake I wanted but the cake I have to choose now because someone lied about their cake decorating abilities. I literally left there shaking in frustration. read more

Mostly a place where one can go to purchase and have made a special occasion type cake? They have a selection of cakes on display ready to buy and eat though, such as coconut and red velvet.. I was on the look out for some good ole sourdough bread and, of course, couldn't pass up a small cream cheese red velvet to go! It was sweet, moist, and the cream cheese frosting with a good dose of crushed pecans was perfect! read more

Finally a bakery that makes true authentic southern red velvet that is moist and not overpowered by a chocolate flavor. I have searched from Virginia to South Carolina and so far this was the best one. This is a mom and pop bakery that the locals raved about when I was visiting the area and it lived up to the hype. The prices are very reasonable with slices around $4 and they have cupcakes, personal sized cakes, and whole cakes. There are also is a variety of cookies and brownies that would make anyone with a sweet tooth feel like they are in heaven. They have a rewards system that if you buy x number of cake slices you'll get one free. Be sure to call to verify if they are open because the hours on here are incorrect. Definitely a place to visit if you are in Colombia so don't miss out read more

This place interpersonal skills SUCKS! Talk about HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! They don't speak nor inter act with when you walk through the door nor do they have variety of selections on cake nor other variety of items! And when you ask them when will you have a certain bakery item it's always "I don't know" check or call back tomorrow! One day I came in and a young lady was taking an order over the phone & another bakery staff lady was just sitting there knowing I wanted to pay and leave not saying she will take care of you or let me assist you with paying! I was waiting 5 mins just to checkout! When your sitting there not doing nothing! I'm new to Columbia SC I won't be back to this so-called bakery read more

These ladies know how to bake! My sister picked up 2 slices of the red velvet - We were in love at first bite. The taste, the texture, the presentation, the aromas hold you. The icing is just right. This is my dessert central; when I want my sweets with a lasting impression. I was turned on to Sweet Temptations Bakery about 5 years ago. We have been hooked every since. We ordered my daughters' graduation cake, her birthday cake, and when we needs a great dessert for dinner. I do recommend this spot for every great occasion and for any "anytime" occasion. You will not be disappointed except when they sell out of your favorite dessert. BooksbyDrM read more

JUST DONT BUY FROM HERE!! Me and my fiancé bought a cake for my mother-in-law birthday. Red Velvet is her favorite. Got the cake Saturday at 1/1:30. Ate the cake at the party at like 7/8 pm. THE CAKE WAS DRY!! She hated it, I hated it, everyone at the party hated it! It was horrible! My family was even thinking of getting a few for our family reunion this weekend, NOT! I will be going to Tiffany's from now on! Just horrible!! Then I called on Monday (cause they are not open on Sundays and closed at 3 on Saturday) spoke with the young lady who said the owner was not end and she would send a email up... welp never got a call back because they don't care. They got my money already and made this dry a** cake. We are just so over it this is horrible. I have called every day no answer to where now it sounds like they blocked me. I was not going to leave this review but since they don't want to hear it I believe everyone in town should! read more

I'm really not understanding where all these great reviews are coming from. I went there today with my family and we brought three slices of cake all together two red velvets and a yellow cake with some white frosting. I'm only reviewing the red velvets since I didn't try the other. The red velvet cake did not taste like red velvet at all you could tell it's was just red food coloring added into the cake. It tasted like coconut and larded it was not tasty at all I'm glad I shared the slice with someone because after a few bites I just couldn't do it anymore plus I hate coconut. Honestly I've had better cake from Walmart bakery. But also the selection of cakes were extremely skimpy. All in all this bakery is extremely over hyped just go to Walmart or publix more selections and better tasting. read more

The overall appearance of the bakery isn't the best however the cakes are amazing! Highly recommend the Lemon Pound cake or the Chocolate Chocolate! I was sad to see they only have a couple cakes displayed. I was hoping for more options. The slices are already cut into boxes and they are stored at room temperature on the counter. I do wish they wrote the date the cakes were made somewhere on the box. I will be returning! read more

Each time I get an itch for something sweet, I head on over to this hidden gem. The cakes are delicious and the cupcakes to die for. Everything is fresh and made with love on site and from scratch. The staff is always pleasant and helpful, too. I have not actually placed an order for a cake in advance here, but that is their primary business. They always have about 6-8 cakes to chose from when I go in, and I purchase by the slice. That's always enough to take care of my sweet tooth. Give them a try! read more

Wow...just, wow. In town from New York and we needed a last minute birthday cake for my fiancée's brother. This bakery came up in a quick search. From the outside, it didn't seem like a bakery open to the public, but there's a little store in the back. It seems like you usually need to pre-order, but they had an extra red velvet cake that we bought and a few slices of key lime cake. I only tried the red velvet and it was amazing. Moist, fresh cake and delicious sort of cream-cheesey frosting with a hint of coconut. I've been trying to lay off the desserts and save it for special occasions - this "cheat" was definitely worth it! read more

Been shopping with this brand for over 12 years and had my worst experience October 12th. I ordered to large sheet cakes that were $80 total back in August. These cakes were not prepared when I showed up even though they made me schedule a time for pick up because they close early on weekends. They made me wait in Columbia for over 2 hours for them to complete a cake that should've been done way early. The cake was not well done nor precut. The lady working promised me 50% off for the trouble and after not receiving my refund I called the business today and was told by a guy that they will not be giving me a refund and basically that it was my fault because I took the rush job cakes that they gave me due to there order not being prepared. I will not spend another dime here and I advise you to do the same. read more

I ordered a red velvet birthday sheet cake for my birthday on 7-13-19 . When we picked it up it looked like a child had decorated it ,it looked sloppy and unprofessional. the cake was just a yellow box cake with red food coloring in it. It was dry and my guests did not enjoy the dry red food coloring fake red velvet cake. I called and went to the bakery to talk with someone in charge to no avail. I feel very sorry for whoever is the new owner is. This level of service will result in financial ruin. The old owners were rude and had poor customer service ,but at least they turned out a good product . You have lost a great customer! read more

Enjoyed everything we picked out to take home. Cookies, Cinnamon rolls, Muffins. Selection looked a little picked over, but we stopped in kind of late afternoon. I don't even know where to start with this one. I saw the sketchy reviews on google but I figured I would go try anyway I know how people can be, but clearly I should've taken these reviews more seriously. Walked in it's a desk right at the door. Woman on the phone didn't acknowledge me and my co-worker just kept texting or scrolling on her phone. Had a child next to her. That's the first bad impression. Next it's definitely a dusty smell in this location to go along with the dusty look and presentation. The baked goods are out on shelves. Shelves that look like they belong in someone dining room from the 70's. Next the cake slices are $6 and this would be ok if they where cut correct. It's the audacity for me and these slices are so small to be asking $6. As I said everything is out on shelves. This is a concern because dairy products are suppose to be refrigerated. Not sitting out in a hot dusty location. Next me and my co worker are checking out it's a 20 inch long piece of hair on the desk. I'm turned off completely but I don't want to be rude it's no need to even address it because we won't be back. Not only because of the non greeting we got, the dusty smell, and look plus the over priced cake slice. The cake was dry as hell! It didn't taste Fresh at all. Whole experience disappointing. read more

Very poor customer service, false advertisement, and unprofessional. They advertised that orders of $25.00 or more receive 10% discount during the month of April. Went to order on a cake April 29th (for pick up on May 3rd) and was told all orders have to be paid in full at the time of ordering. Because if this, I requested the advertised 10% discount since I was ordering and paying for the order during tr month of April. I was told that because my pick up date was in May, the discount would not be honored. After speaking with two different people about why I would not be honored, I was told "that's just the way it is" and "it SUPPOSED to mean order that are ordered, paid, and picked up in April". After I pointed it out that it said nothing about pick up and it specified "orders", I once again asked if they would honor it and if not, I would order my cake elsewhere. The lady I spoke to said " well gone ahead then"! And yes, it was more important that she not honor a small $3.60 discount than to receive $32.40 and continued business from me and anyone I refer. Hope it was worth it! Social media is a powerful tool! read more

The baked goods deserve 5 stars; however, their selection is almost always poor. I've been here 6 times and only once was there an abundanct selection. I strongly encourage them to put things in the oven before they run out. A bakery should not be stock out of cookies at 1 pm read more
