Poor service. Poor food. Overall wasn't impressed. If you're going to spend $30 on food I'd just over go festiva. First of all the host set our table then comes up to us and says we can sit down. Were walking over like uh... Okay where? We had to search for our table. For two adults and two kids they gave us a super small table and we really couldn't fit anything on it (Coming from a former host/waitress. As dead as they were they could have gave us something a bit bigger) The waitress was confusing when we asked questions. My beef and broccoli wasn't the greatest and was definitely microwaved. Some of it was super hot and some of it was freezing cold. Waitress took forever to do anything and she only had one other table. I'm not one to write bad reviews and sound like a jerk at a restaurant since I have worked in them for years but I mean, seriously? This place is not cheap. I love their food. I was strictly China Lantern, but the food is so much lighter, I really feel less guilty eating there. The ambiance is wonderful and a conversation can be had. I also never feel rushed. If I am their My Dad and sister are there with me and I want everyone to feel special and know I am listening to them. Been eating here for many years and am always pleased with my food. Have not eaten in so I cannot comment on the ambience. Food is always waiting hot and ready when I arrive and I live fairly close. If you've never eaten here I'd certainly give it a try! read more

We frequent Sweet Ginger often but today we had the honor of having them cook Christmas dinner for us. As a family that visits often I have to say today was one of the best meals we have ever had from here. I have never had a bad meal here but today it was ever better. I'm not sure if it's a new cook or what but the food was amazing and we appreciate you opening on a holiday and making if even more special for us. Stopped in here after a long, difficult day that saw a family member die in a nearby nursing home. The bartender/hostess was curt from the get go. The waitress was nice, and the food was mediocre American Chinese food. I lost my appetite, however, hearing the bartender and other waitstaff making dumb little jokes about the customers. I know Fairhaven is a small town, but most of the people I've encountered there are not like this. I'm sure those of us in my party looked a little harried--we had been on the road for a full day and a half, and we had just experienced a serious loss. When the peanut gallery at the bar decided to direct their little comments towards us, I realized just how little these people care to have actual paying customers. I've been to sweet ginger about 10 times since they've been open (it's been years). Chinese food isn't my favorite. I recently went and it was not the best experience. For one, i don't think they had heat. It was 30 degrees outside and i had to wear my winter jacket as i ate. They had space heaters around. We got our bread & it was old and stale. We got our food and my boyfriends food was not correct. Which was fine because he will usually eat whatever. But when i saw he only put a small dent in his food, i knew he didn't like his either. Sweet Ginger is owned by the same people who owned man li's in newbedford. I'm so glad I found them again. I mean what can you say about Chinese besides...its a quick and cheap dinner that can be satisfying. However some chinese places serve sub-par Chinese. Sweet Ginger is not one of them. They have awesome crab ragoons, great fried rice and they are NOT stingy when it comes to duck sauce. The servers are helpful and the food is great. We love this place! We have been MANY times, I don't know why I apparently overlooked reviewing it. I agree with Mary that each place has something different that we like! But this place does many things well. The food that we've ordered has always been great. I don't usually order fried shrimp in a chinese place for the simple reason I don't like the batter, but their steamed shrimp is always large size and excellent. The soup is good with nice, soft wonton. The general tsao chicken is different than anyplace I've ever had it. The drinks are cheap and not stingy on the alcohol. Very typical lack-luster type of place. Typical of Southeastern Mass... if you're familiar with or from New Bedford, Fall River, etc, you'll know what I'm alluding to. The staff is apathetic at best, consisting of inattentive teenagers and their long past caring minders. The food is some of the poorest representative Chinese I've had in the area. The atmosphere had promise but is ultimately ruined by poor seating arrangements. Being in overly close quarters is certainly not desirable given the typical clientele that frequent the place. I really should have known better than to set foot here but being adventurous, I took the chance. There's nothing wrong with that, but you have to be willing to accept the consequences. In my case that was an upset stomach at a cost of $54 (dinner for two, prices otherwise OK). Certainly not worth it. If you're looking for some good Asian food (Thai?), I would recommend "Thai Taste" in Swansea MA. read more

Decent place. Right on the main drag easy to find plenty of parking. The mixed drinks are so so they're not too good at the normal drinks you think would be a staple at this type of location. I was desperately hungry one day, so I decided to stop by since I liked trying new things. When I first came in, I was greeted by a hostess, I was pretty happy but things just went down when I ordered the food. The cream cheese in the crab rangoon tasted odd and it also tasted stale. The duck sauce was really sour, blehhhh. The chicken honestly was overcooked and tasted weird when I bit into it. They put too much of the sauce on my chicken, so it made the batter all soggy. The rice was BURNT and was hard when I bit into it. My god. I Felt like the servers were trying to rush me out and gave me my bill like literally 10 minutes after receiving my food. Jeeze. My husband wanted to try this place again. It was ok. I think each Chinese restaurant near us does something well. If they all got together, it would be one hell of a restaurant. We got the scallion pancakes, they were good but greasy. I got the salt and pepper shrimp. It was ok, batter on the shrimp was mushy, but tasty. Fried dumplings were good, plump and tasty. The beef fried rice was almost inedible, it was so salty. My husband got curry beef. I don't know why. Every time he gets it from take-out he is diasapointed. My hot and sour soup w/ wontons was hot and good. All, in all, ok. Just needed a change and so we decided to go back here. read more

I visited Sweet Ginger a few weeks ago for dinner with mom. This was probably my fourth visit there and I was looking forward to it. Oddly the place is never packed when I go but the food is delicious and my perception leads me to believe it is one of the cleaner and healthier choices for Asian cuisine in the area. They have a lot of vegetarian options and even a vegetable wonton soup! The waitress came over promptly and brought us some warm squishy dinner rolls. Try as I might I can never resist the bread at restaurants. And these were awesome. I was deciding between the gung pao tofu which I gravitate to often but had never had here and the coconut shrimp. The shrimp description said it was lightly battered and topped w a coconut sauce served over a bed of broccoli. I decided on the shrimp...something different. The food came out in no more than ten minutes! To my dismay when the shrimp arrived the batter was much heavier than I expected. It was just like fried shrimp that comes in a Pu Pu platter. I'm sure it was tasty but it was not what I expected and I couldn't bring myself to eat it. I NEVER do this but when the waitress came over I asked to send it back and ordered the tofu instead. She completely understood and took the food back without issue. She even took the brown rice I'd started nibbling on to the back to keep it warm! (And hopefully not to spit in). My gung pao tofu arrived in just a few minutes and it was deeeelicious. The tofu itself was just crispy enough and the celery and peppers were crunchy and plentiful. Even the brown rice was steamed just right. Definitely worth checking out! read more

I remember this place when it was near Seabra Supermarket and had a different name. It has always been so delicious. I have never had a bad meal from here. My family gets the pu pu platter (if that's how you spell it) and there is TONS of food! The waitresses are very nice and come by often to fill your water cup.
