The food here is always really good. This review is specifically about their veggie rolls. We Ordered to take them home and reheated them in the air fryer. They reminded me of homemade lumpia (Malaysian style spring rolls) rather than boring standard spring rolls. The filling was fresh and delicious and the wrapper was crispy and not at all greasy. I've lived in this area all my life. We have many restaurants for a small town. Sweet Ginger is easily located on Rt. 6. Has loads of parking. Takeout is prepared quickly and hot. Decent prices and cocktails too. Open seating makes for comfortable dining room. Inside is not that busy so it's great because no wait. I see that SG gets ratings ranging from being quite lambasted to people lovin' it. I can dig the dichotomy. Let's peep this out, aye? The decor is pretty minimal. Some cool Oriental stuff at the entrance and the bar is fairly pimped out but the rest is plain-jane stuff. It's OK but lacks the old-school red-leather booth and gold-dragon vibe. The menu is wicked extensive for such a no-frills place. All sorts of subgums and stuff. Kung Pao is called Gung Pao here -must be a regional thing? We ordered a Toyko Blaster and a Mai Tai. The Blaster was phun and had garnish but the Mai Tai didn't have no garnish. No frills, remember? The drinks were tasty and fairly strong -especially the Tai. Moey ordered the Lunch Special which was Wings, Goons, PFR and Teriyaki Beef Stix. Admittedly the PFR was "the usual" old and cold. The Wings were teenie AF. The Goons were decent and were quite yellow due to coloring to make them Festivus looking. The TBS were OK -probably a "meh" rating. I got the Bird's Nest which was scrump AF and wicked copious. Lots of Beef and Chicken and "Chinese Veggies" as described on the menu including Pennsylvania Mushrooms. The nest was a Taro Root nest which did look like a bird nest and was interesting visually and phun to eat. All was slathered in a Yum-Yum Brown Boom-Boom/Yo-Yo type sauce. Additionally, my One was quite hangry and ordered up more food similar to her first order. The food arrived and it was similar to her previous order but with Fried Shrimp. She ate it. We figured it's the holidays, so we got two more drinks. Moey got another Mai Tai -this time she asked for garnish, and I got an Alabama Slammer (a very ancient and traditional Chinese drink dating far back to the Rang-Tang Dynasty) and it was served in a tiki mug with garnish. Prices are quite reasonable here -like as little as 7.50 a drink. I would say some things are good here and other things not so much. The waitress was absolutely wonderful and was multi-tasking wicked big time. I do wish the PFR was freshly made or at least conscientiously reheated. This very much adds a bummer element to an otherwise pretty good place. This is more than a mere peccadillo. This heinous offensive has been ubiquitous in many Chinese places dating way back to caveman times. It's no bueno. PS -I find it interesting that Portuguese influence has infused itself all the way into Oriental places in this area as they proudly featured Linguica Fried Rice and other Chinese dishes containing this atypical ingredient. Not good is being kind. We got two take out meals. Both went in the trash. Teriyaki beef rolled asaparus was described as thinly sliced beef wrapped around asparagus. It was not thinly sliced. It was tough, burned on the edges and wrapped around CANNED asparagus. It was served on some lettuce, one carrot slice and a piece of broccoli which was probably the only fresh thing in the meal. I spit out the only piece I tried as did my friend. His chicken and peanuts was only slightly more edible. But it was over-spiced, lacked any flavor aside from red hot peppers and it too went in the trash. Even the rice was sticky and the fortune cookies stale. I have eaten here a few times since they've been open and this local restaurant is one of my favorites! The Pan Fried Hunan Egg Noodle is always excellent! Everything included in the Pu Pu Platter is delicious, hot and the servings are huge. This was my first time trying the Pad Thai here and it was just okay and they do not include hot mustard to your order unless you ask. Almost perfect. I moved the area in 2015 and have been searching for a decent Chinese restaurant. How did I not find this sooner? I ordered the Mongolian steak, the Japanese house udon noodle, and the Peking noodle. I requested that all three dishes be served extra spicy. The Peking noodle was a huge disappointment very pedestrian not spicy definitely will not order this again. The Mongolian steak was cooked to perfection. It was tender flavorful amazingly good. Again, I did request it to be extra spicy and it was not and that's why it was a little bit of a disappointment. The Japanese house udon noodle was fantastic! Fairhaven is not a big town. For this kind of genuine cookery to be a 2 minute drive from Hampton Inn was a real find. I notice that in all the reviews of this place, people who asked for genuine Chinese cookery, Americanized Chinese, were the most happy. I ordered my go-to, Mapo Tofu. It's a tofu dish in brown sauce with minced pork. I got it with brown rice instead of traditional boiled. The Mapo Tofu beats the odds of small town Chinese by not being the tiniest bit greasy, and very flavorful. The brown rice was perfect. A gal working the bar and the front of house was very pleasant and efficient. It seemed to be a nice spot for locals to pop in for a nice martini or Chinese specialty cocktail, which is what I witnessed. The lighting was just right. If I locally, I'd certainly be a regular. read more

I'll say it. This is really is the last great American Chinese restaurant in the Bristol County area (in my opinion). When I was growing up in the 90's, most places made their food this way. Fresh ingredients and food made to order. Crispy Chicken Fingers that release juicy chicken when you crack them in half. Char-broiled Beef Teriyaki and Boneless Spareribs that are closer to authentic Char-siu. Fried Rice that is tossed with fresh onions, minced pork and bean sprouts when you order it, and General Tso that is actually spicy, in a sweet and tangy ginger glaze, nevermind the fact that the portions are absolutely huge. There are simply no Chinese places in the area that are putting out this level of quality and consistency. (I'm looking at you Gumbo's in Dartmouth, Oriental Pearl in Westport.) The food here is second to none and if you're like me and starting to find that your local chinese places have tanked in quality, come here to remember what great weekday chinese used to be like. I've experience better food on previous visits. The back dining room had a few large parties with the servers handling the front and back dining areas. Our server was as sweet as could be and explained that she had a large table in the back that need their food served. When it came time for our food delivery she was now clearing and boxing their leftovers. The timing of our Fish and Chip and Pu Pu for two was taking some time for delivery. The Chicken Pad Thai was simply outstanding for such an unbelievably low price as well. That a restaurant in 2018 can have such a great sized dish on their menu for only $7.15 is really something. We'll add to that an immensely comfortable seating and a terribly clean place with exceptional service. Stopped in for a quick lunch. I had the Gung Pao chicken lunch special ($6.45). This is just Gung Pao over white rice, with no apps or soup. This was quite a healthy portion of food for less than $7. The dish had really nice flavor and a combination of thigh and breast meat. The vegetables had a nice crunch and the rice was very fresh. I had a beer with my lunch which was ice cold. This was soooo disappointing. I've had them once before but tonight's pu pu platter was DISGUSTING. By the time I got home from my 10 min drive, the brown bag was saturated in grease. The egg roll wasn't edible. One bite and all I could taste was GREASE. The wonton was old. The bbq beef ok. The chicken and shrimp didn't taste old but super greasy as well. If I could give -5 stars I would. If you take a look at my previous review from 2 YEARS AGO which was not at all a bad review about this establishment. I mention how they add the tip into the bill. Well after I gave them that review I went into the restaurant 2 years ago & the owner confronted me about it. After the owner confronted me about it I stopped dining here. Well my family still lives in the area & they stop in every once in a blue moon. Every time they dined here they noticed a tip added in on the bill. My mom noticed they don't mention on the menu or anywhere in the restaurant they add the tip on the bill. Recently my family went & asked the waitress why they add the tip in. The waitress said "The owner told all the waitresses to add the tip on the bill when you guys come here because you don't tip very well." At that point my family wanted to talk to the owner which she threatened to call the police. All of this over a 3 star yelp review 2 years ago. You got to be kidding me. This is the first time we ordered from this place and it was very disappointing. The beef teriyaki sticks have no flavor and it was also like chewing on gum. Whether it was chicken fingers or crab Rangoon anything that was fried had a weird after taste from the oil they use. Vegan review: finally came here with some fiends. The food was pretty good. Standard options for a Chinese food restaurant but they also has Thai options. Hit or miss. Sometimes really good and sometimes really greasy. On the Southcoast there isn't a lot of choices for decent Chinese food so we usually order from here. One note on customer service. A couple years ago they use to always forget things in your take out order but they got much better at it. Recently it happened a couple more times. They left an item out which was really important to one of the party to have so I had to drive back. It's annoying and my dinner got cold while traveling to get it. They could have easily given a coupon or another app to apologize for the inconvenience but no......kinda kills the fun out of take out. I'm surprised this place hasn't been reviewed before. I kept driving by this on rt.6 (huttleston ave) and never bothered to go inside until this past week. According to their website they've been around since the summer of 2008. The restaurant was very clean and I was greeted by a hostess in front of the bar. There was a large saltwater fish tank and plenty of seating from booths to tables. The menu was extensive with many choices and combination platters. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and my boyfriend ordered the crab ragoon, general tso, fried rice combination platter. We were both more than pleased. The service was extremely fast even though the restaurant was crowded for a Friday night around 6pm. We were in and out of the restaurant in just around a half an hour. For the two of us with no alcoholic beverages ordered, the total was around $16. Excellent prices for the size of meal we received. There was even room to take some home and have seconds. I really look forward to returning to this Chinese restaurant soon, next time I might even try take out and experience their wonderful food at home. read more
