Although honestly, Janelle's cupcakes might have turned the graphic world of Peanuts upside-down, with Lucy forking over her Psychology practice's earnings, Linus surrendering his security blanket, and Schroeder giving up his piano! Look for Janelle's Crumb Shoppe Bakery, based in Greenbelt (MD), on her website, where you can order the only things other than the little red-haired girl that could make Charlie Brown's heart flutter faster.

Unfortunately, this time didn't hit. My daughter liked them, but didn't love them -- and that's usually not the case with cupcakes. Her go-to move is eating the icing first, and even that got shut down. The frosting had a crusty texture instead of being soft and creamy. The cakes themselves were dry. I've never seen her ask for milk with cupcakes, let alone take a sip after every bite. That's when it hit me -- maybe the mistake was trusting the pre-order to be fresh. I probably would've been better off just picking 6 straight from the display case. Very disappointing, especially for a birthday treat. Not sure I'd recommend pre-ordering from here again.

I called Mashel, the baker/business owner to place my order for a dozen of the classic vanilla. She was very friendly and professional via our call and exchanging texts. I believe she bakes from her home. We coordinated a delivery time and I met her at a local elementary school. Alternatively she will deliver to Columbia, Ellicott City, Clarksville, Elkridge, & North Laurel for orders of 2 dozen or more, per her website. She arrived on time for my pickup for an event the following day. I put the cupcakes in the fridge overnight. The following day the cupcakes were taken out of the fridge around 9:30 am and eaten around noon. I loved the cake itself as it was moist. The icing and cake were both flavorful, however, the icing was too soft. The texture was not what I am accustomed to and not sure if being in the fridge had something to do with it. Presentation wise the cupcake looked simple with sprinkles on top. It looked cupcakes you would find at the grocery store including the plastic packaging. I was surprised when I saw the cupcakes how small they were. I was expecting them to be bigger if they are normally valued at $30. Other bakeries may charge $3-$4 more for a dozen but they are considerably bigger. Also, if I go to other brick and mortar bakeries, for a comparable price I am able to choose different flavors whereas here I am limited to a dozen of the same flavor.

Surprisingly because it is the number one most popular flavor. The cake was moist but the frosting is way too sweet even for me who has a sweet tooth. Of all the flavors I tried, my top three favorite were the carrot cake, almond cake, and the red velvet. I really love that they have mini cupcakes because I can try more flavors and not have to workout as long to burn off all the calories. I also purchased the peanut butter cookie which comes in a 3-pack for my hubby. He enjoyed them. I tried one and the flavor was good and it was partially soft and partially crunchy. The staff who assisted me with my cupcakes was super friendly and gave me her recommendations on which flavors she liked best and which were the most popular. I will return, hopefully this summer, to try their ice cream or one of their other cookies.

They do also sell a variety of drinks, teas, and even greeting cards. Here is how everything was: The Chocolate mousse shooters with whipped cream (2 oz) was definitely decadent, but grainy tasting as well. It was tough to get over the texture of something so rich that was meant to be smooth and wasn't. I liked the Salted Caramel Cheesecake Shooters (2 oz) a bit more because of the different flavors (the cheesecake layer being my favorite). The Chocolate Covered Strawberries were nice, but the strawberries were tart (which is definitely tough to gauge). Lastly, the buttercream on the Mini Cupcake was overly sweet and the cupcake was not as moist as I would have anticipated. There is limited parking (outdoor) outside the shop, but it is free.
