It is a GREAT bakery that earns its rating as one of the nation's 10 best bakeries. Located on the…read moreEastern side of the great Winterset public square, this terrific family business oozes customer service and kindness, and its food is spectacular. Owner Jim Sparks is a wonderful man, and they are a strong community supporter. Their family has operated the business for more than 40 years. My apple fritter was the best I have ever enjoyed, and we decided that it was definitely worth the 45-minute ride! They also have great donuts and cookies, plenty of indoor seating, and historic Winterset photos. This is a jewel. Visit it; you'll love the entire experience.

We had just come from the John Wayne Museum and I was looking for a sweet roll for my early hotel room coffee the next morning. That would be for my 5 AM wake up (home and away) to tide my over before breakfast with Dad around 8 AM. This Bakery has a lot of room and seating, and it's a bit of a walk to the counter. As we were here mid-afternoon, selection was more limited, but still tempting. I would have preferred a scone over a donut (because the former is "healthier"?), but my choice was either going to be the later with white frosting or a long john. And what I chose was delicious the next morning.

So I guess no more Brick Street Bakery? Great location. No donut cases displaying donuts. We had to ask about the donuts and it was 8am. They had the "fancy" donuts, you know the ones that people get creative with cereals and stuff. No plain every day donuts. I got the apple fritter. It had cherries in it, I didn't know that. The 2 ladies that were there were super sweet. There is some seating inside and outside. And you can see the old architecture of the building inside and out which makes it fun. They are only open 6am-2pm. Will need to go back and try their pizza as I was not impressed with the donut.

We had to try the goodies.. so I got the maple frosted cake donut. I wasn't expecting much... I'm not a huge fan of cake donuts because every one I've had has left me dry-mouthed and searching for water... but not here! Brick Street's donuts were not dry at all! Moist and perfectly sweet! The coffee (we just have it black) was smooth and tasty. My husband enjoyed his gooey sticky-bun :)
