The coffee was really good, and the pricing felt fair compared to a lot of other coffee places. I got a regular-sized latte for around $5, which was a nice surprise. The service was very friendly, though it can move a little slower at times since it's drive-through only and sometimes there's just one person working. The quality of the coffee made the wait worth it though. One thing to know is that the building is easy to miss while driving, so you have to keep an eye out or you'll pass it. We had to say "uh we've never been here before". We then got sat. We knew they had the addition of pizza to their menu, so we got some cheese breadsticks. They could've been left in the oven for a few more minutes. It just didn't have a lot of color. We got a bbq chicken pizza that was decent, but didn't have a lot of sauce and the crust tasted like it was a frozen pre-made crust. The dining room was clean, but the service and food left something to be desired. We'll be back for the bakery items because they looked very appealing and we've had them in the past, but we're hard pressed to come back for pizza.

I visited Brewin' Hope today for the first time. They are located in the Pana Historic District and…read moreoperate out of an 1870 building near the Big Four Railroad switch tower and passenger station within walking distance of restaurants, hair salons and clothes boutiques as well as other downtown Pana businesses. They have indoor and outdoor seating and the shop has been beautifully restored. Their menu features coffee and tea as well as baked goods. The coffee house is staffed with the special needs community, along with their job coaches. Brewing Hope works with each individual to get their food handlers license and learn valuable job skills to help them in the future. My visit included a cup of their strongest coffee and hummingbird bread made from bananas, coconut and pineapple with a sweet glaze. It was excellent. The coffee was very good as well and of course freshly brewed. The wait staff is awesome! I have never seen a friendlier group of employees so eager to serve their customer. For now the coffee shop is only open on Friday and Saturday mornings. There was a lot of traffic in and out while so that's always a great indication of the quality. When you finish your coffee and pastry you can visit the Pana Museum next door. Mike Cross has put together an awesome collection of photos and artifacts from Pana. Even though it completely destroyed the building, it wasn't the end. This story inspired us to come to check it out. After poking around in Decatur awhile, we came for the awesome beer. It's kind of a ways to get to Assumption, on some lonely highway. The restaurant in town, DJ's has some of this on tap. Because this place is only open Fridays and Saturdays, you can go there when the brewery is closed. The brewery was open though. It's about $5 a pint. They have a pretty large variety. I had the 1905 Citra. This is an IPA, and wasn't crazy hoppy. Has no food except maybe chips. They however allow customers to bring in food from the restaurants around here. Good beer. It's also a good story and gives this rinky dink town of Assumption something to be proud of. This is worth a drive to check out what they have become even with a setback.
