I've had Chinese food delivered from here a few times, mainly because, in spite of the multitude of…read moremenus that seem to be pushed through my letterbox every hour of the day, when I actually want a takeaway I can invariably only find one - New Hong Van has fulfilled this honour on a couple of occasions. The food did exactly what I wanted it to, providing me with my MSG fix for a few hours for a relatively reasonable sum, and the staff were perfectly pleasant, throwing in some free prawn crackers and drinks as all good takeaways should. A perfectly adequate stop for a Chinese takeaway, but nothing to write home about.

The food here is generally pretty good. What let's it down is it's organisation. I have been…read moreordering from here once a week for several years now and feel I'm going to have to venture elsewhere as they are forever getting the order wrong. This includes on multiple occasions relating to allergies. Just had salt n pepper chips that were quite obviously chips placed on top of the salt n pepper herbs in the hope I'd not notice. I'd b3 happier if the just gave me the chips and were honest about it or I could've waited for them to make the order right, but no! They have to deceive. Added to that front of house staff not particularly friendly and order is rarely ready when they say it will be. If this was my business they'd be some P45s flying around. Avoid if you have allergies, not worth the risk.

Leeds Civic Quarter, City Centre

Oh. My. Word. If…read moreyou're after decadence, this is your huckleberry. If you're after the cool slightly kitsch vibe, akin to Big Trouble In Little China, let's go Lopan hunting. (The weird columns with columns revealed underneath give me that impression.) If you're after a feast fit for warriors, modern ones who traverse the landscape of Leeds, then x marks the spot just here. I've been but the once, but that was enough to leave me yearning for more. The occasion was a friend's birthday. Our initial options had failed us, and this was right there, so we chose to descend. Being about 3pm in the afternoon the place was entirely empty, so it was a little bit of an unusual experience. Even so, every member of staff was fantastic, and treated us beautifully. We ordered the Prosecco, as it was on an afternoon deal (I forget how much), and drank that whilst perusing the extensive menu. Let me start by saying, if you're indecisive, brace yourself. There's hoards to decipher, and adventurous menu by all accounts, and even features frogs legs and birds nest soup. I was not so brave, and tried neither this visit, but as a personal challenge I think I should come back and give them a go. Our initial plan was to order several of the dishes under a fiver, and pick and mix. After listing about three dishes our waiter looked concerned and asked if we were still ordering more... We soon realised that four dishes was more than enough to feed a small army. Forgive me for forgetting every single item, but let me attempt to describe them. We had a peppery fish soup, which was gelatinous and thick, and not really my thing. (Not a seafood fan, but my friend adored it.) We also had the salt and pepper chicken wings, which were plentiful, greasy, and really delicious. If you're watching your weight, avoid - napkins were used every time to clean off the oil from our fingers. We also had a delectable dish of mushrooms, that was incredible, and an unforgettable (I realise the irony of forgetting its name) dish of crispy spicy beef. This was the pièce de résistance - every mouthful was incredible, but eat it quick as it's tastier when it's hot. Defeated, way before we finished, our lovely waiter asked if we'd like to take the remainder home - so never fear if you're one for waste not want not. Sadly, being as we were going for yet another birthday meal that evening, we couldn't take the food with us. On a more bizarre note, since the place was empty whilst we dined, it was curious that the waiting staff stood about 3 feet from our table during the whole meal. It didn't bother me, but I'm sure they could hear all the silly conversation we were having! Regardless, I imagine when full, this situation doesn't happen. (And as I mentioned before, they were all really lovely.) In any case, once again I've written more than you could probably digest, mirroring my ordering style, so I'll leave it there. Essentially, this is a fantastic restaurant, with incredible menus, lovely staff, great lunch deals and really quirky cool décor. It's a new favourite, and I want to come back! Lunch, anyone?

Ignore the 1 star hygiene rating, it's hands down the best Chinese restaurant in Leeds. With it's…read moremostly Chinese clientele, and an authentic Chinese menu - complete with wonderfully stupid set menu names "First Date", "Courtship" and "True Love" - it should come as no surprise that the grub that is served up is deeeeelicious! And very good value for money too at that. The only thing I'd knock it on would be the drinks selection, but with the above, and the great waiting staff and snazzy faux Chinese decor you'd be crazy to contemplate any other Chinese in the city centre.

So, we decided on take-away. Normally we'd go for pizza or Thai, but we were feeling a little adventurous so we decided to look up Chinese take-aways on Yelp. It's my joy to report that having spotted all the grand reviews for China Jade we took a punt and it was just the job. I'm a creature of habit so I went for my usual (when I'm in Gloucestershire it's what we always have) which is a Special Curry and Special Fried Rice. My boyfriend went for something slightly more adventurous and had a Japanese Bento Box. The whole order came to around £25, which was fine as we had ordered enough food for over three people! My dishes were beautiful and utterly packed with bits, there was no scrimping on the meat and it was all pretty delicious. To my boyfriend's delight there was a lot of fish related items in my curry, which went straight on his plate as I'm not keen, and his Bento box was like a TV Dinner from the land of Plenty. He had a huge salad, breaded chicken slices, rice, little parcels of I-don't-know-what (devoured before I got a look in!) and a pot of Miso soup. I was full after about half of of my dishes, as the curry also came with chips, so was decidedly sensible and left it after that. Of course, my boyfriend continued to pick at the food for the next few hours and felt overly full afterward, but we were utterly satisfied. Service was friendly and I thought the prices were really reasonable so I was really happy. Yum!

The food is ALWAYS hot and is delivered usually on schedule give or take 10 minutes. Obviously its going to be a little longer on a peak day (fri & sat). The food is always fantastic, full of flavour and never a problem. Me and my partner always order the following. Salt & Pepper Spare Ribs (Amazing, proper full length ribs with chillis etc) Prawn toast (proper prawns ontop of the toast, not paste) Char Sui Pork no veg (you get lots of meat) with chips Beef with Ginger & Spring Onion (ask for more meat and they give it to you) with noodles or egg fried rice. All of that comes to about £16 or so. Delivery is charged but doesn't bother me.

We had a mixed starter to begin with so we got a little bit of everything, but i would seriously recommend the salt, pepper and chili mushrooms. I don't like spicy food that much but these had just the right amount of kick to them to be tolerable yet incredibly tasty! Safe to say, i scoffed them all!! For main course I had sweet and sour chicken. It was DELICIOUS. At imperial you get just the right amount of food, so its not like your eating what seems to be a never ending plate of food which happens in a lot of places!! That being said, I could have eaten that meal til i was sick, it was just beautiful! Beautifully seasoned with just the right amount of sweet and sour. And who could really argue with the fact you get free prawn crackers and a fortune cookie and mints at the end?! Not me!! The staff are also really friendly and really helpful. They provide a great customer service and all add to the great vibe this place gives. If you ever get chance to eat here, I would reccomend that you do. Its superb!

Between the 6 of us we had a variation of 7 starters (e.g. Spareribs in OK sauce, Chicken wings with salt and chili, Seaweed, Chicken Saté, Prawn toast etc.) After this we shared a half aromatic crispy duck between us and to finish it off, we all had a different main course. Every single thing was absolutely delicious, well cooked, well seasoned, well presented we could not have wished for more and nobody had room left for a dessert! The service was speedy, attentive and everybody had always time for a joke and a good laugh. We felt as welcome as if we were part of the family. And when the bill was presented... well, another nice surprise. Fantastic food, great hospitality, great value for money - you will have to search around for qutie a while to find a place that matches The Imperial in Shipley
