Cutes and Cakes - Strawberry Crunch 3/23/24

This little business is tucked away on Gaslight Alley in Stovehouse. It took me way too long to…read morerealized the "Cutes" stands for charcuterie, but they sell that and cupcakes as well as a few other confections. It's a little shop with a small but diverse inventory of confections. There's no room to sit and eat inside but it's a quick walk over to the food garden if you want to have your treat there. Honestly, going inside didn't make the charcuterie part of the business any more evident - it looks like mostly desserts - but I was there for dessert anyway so nbd. Service was a little cool at first but warmed up as I asked questions and for recommendations. I wound up getting two cupcakes to go (a chocolate peanut butter one and a cookies and cream one at the employee's recommendation) and a strawberry pretzel salad for right then. I'll be honest, this place gave me sticker shock pretty badly. These are very average sized cupcakes (with beautiful frosting work...but the fact remains these aren't the behemoths you'd get during the viral mega cupcake craze a few years ago) and the strawberry pretzel salad cup was also comfortably for one serving only. It was about $14, almost 16 with tip. Whew! The products were alright but nothing really stood out. The strawberry pretzel salad was probably the best thing, but it was all in very discrete layers, which is not my preference. The pretzels were completely separate from everything else and it was hard getting a bite of all the elements put together. That said, the flavors were good, though the strawberry part could've been a bit sweeter. The cupcakes were fine. I thought there was a smidge too much frosting on them for the size of the cakes but it wasn't egregious like it is at Bite Me Cupcakery at Bridge Street. The chocolate peanut butter cupcake didn't have much peanut butter flavor (only the bites with PB drizzle); personally, I was hoping for some peanut butter flavor in the cake itself. The cookies and cream was bland but not overly sweet, which was a plus. Overall, for my experience there, this place offered pretty but expensive desserts that satisfied if not necessarily blew my socks off. It might be a good spot for a quick sweet tooth fix if you're enjoying time at Stovehouse.

I was over at Stovehouse today and noticed this adorable new bakery next to Charlie Fosters. They…read moreare doing their soft opening currently, but their Grand Opening is April 13th. They had samples. But the beautiful cupcakes drew my attention. I had to get the strawberry crunch!! It was so good. I will definitely be back!

Cullman is sort of known for baked goods so I wanted to stop and get a few pastries before we…read moreheaded home. This place had good reviews and was next door to a coffee shop, so double win! Very cute little bakery inside. Nice places to sit, cute old timey knickknacks and baking relics -- my mom got a huge kick out of the old KitchenAid mixers. Even though it was later in the afternoon, they had a decent selection of desserts. A friendly employee greeted us immediately and was helpful with checkout and bagging. I chose a smaller orange roll based on the recommendation of lots of reviewers, as well as something a bit more unique to me: a sweet potato and pecan muffin. Somewhat unusual combination that sounded super good! I split my treats with husband later that evening. The orange roll was solid -- the soft and yeasty roll was the best part -- though for me the orange glaze was a little too sweet. That's how I usually feel about orange rolls though so if you really love them you'll probably like this one! The muffin remained remarkably moist and the pecans were so nice and toasty on top. It was very subtly sweet and had lots of nice spices. Would love to try more muffins from here! Thanks for the yummy treats! Definitely hope to return someday to try the pie bars, strata, and more.

I wish I could give this place a hundred stars. My daughter has a gluten allergy and I ordered her…read moregf birthday cake from this shop. We live in Chattanooga, Tn and this was the most reasonable priced store I could find. When we picked it up, it was beautiful. This was the most wonderful tasting cake we have ever ordered for her. I have even purchased a couple from Gold Belly that didn't even compare. I will purchase all of my bakery goods from this store. The drive is well worth it. The sandwich bread I purchased got a thumbs up from my daughter as well. I can't thank them enough for providing such amazing products.

I asked her to please pick me up the signature grilled cheese sandwich. My sandwich was a grilled chicken breast with Brie, shallot, apple slices, and fig jam. The gluten free bread was toasted and the chicken was perfectly cooked. My sandwich was very good. When I order it again, I will skip the fig jam. The sweet taste is ok but not my preference. The fig jam made my bread mushy on the side the jam was applied. 5/5 If you are gluten intolerant, Mason Dixon is your go to for freshly baked breads, cupcakes, muffins and more. I was in Homewood going to my fav Greek restaurant years ago and found their Birmingham location. I will definitely get to Mason Dixon soon to try the grilled chicken without fig jam. I know it will be great! It's good y'all. 5/5
