Worst nightmare in my Life! ONE STAR IS ONE TOO MANY FOR THIS HELLHOLE HOSPITAL!
I was referred to this hospital for emergency surgery recently, I was in tremendous pain upon admitting myself, but managed to sign my life away at the front desk and get to a room. My surgery was to take place about 5 hours after admitting; I changed in to a gown and was hooked up to IV's. On time, my doctor had me taken to the surgery center; all went well, up until this point.
Once back in my room, I was told to get some rest and that I would be staying for the night. Throughout the evening my pain management machine kept setting off an alarm, about every fifteen minutes, which made sleeping impossible. It came to a point that I would hit the nurses button on the remote and just hold the microphone up to the machine so they could hear the alarm, I didn't have to say a thing, they would eventually send in a nurse to reset it, a few times I had to wait up to ten minutes for a nurse to come in, so much for getting sleep after an invasive surgery.
So after getting no more than FOUR hours of sleep the evening of my surgery, I woke to find a nurse standing next to me with a "deer in headlights look on her face" when I made eye contact with her, she left the room without so much as acknowledging me, THIS WAS VERY STRANGE AT THE TIME.. About 1pm, that day I requested an ice bag for my "sore", after waiting about TWO hours, I barely got myself up, grabbed my IV pole and a well thawed ice bag and walked to the nurses station to get a fresh bag. Talk about a "self-service hospital"! A nurse apologized for forgetting about me and rushed me back to my room with new ice bag. At 3:10 that same day the same nurse that I had seen in my room that morning was briefing another nurse in my room with some directions, I asked for a fresh ice bag, as the one I had had thawed and I was in major pain. At 3:50, no ice bag, so i rang the nurse about the ice bag and to also let them know the alarm was going off, the nurse was rude on the intercom and literally cut me off, a nurse came in to fix the alarm, but knew nothing about an ice bag.
From that point on the ice bags kept coming on time, after I had to give them a "piece of my mind" about the lousy service.
What didn't change was the alarm going off every fifteen minutes for the rest of the day and thru the night. NO REST AS ORDERED BY MY DOCTOR FOR ME!
At about midnight a nurse tried some new batteries in the machine, this failed to correct the problem. So being that I was going nearly 48 hours without a good night's rest, and I could not sleep with the alarm going off, I decided to get my clothes together for discharge in the AM. I had kept my Shorts next to me the entire time as they contained my wallet and two bottles of pain medications I had on me upon admittance. I found that my pain medications were STOLEN!
Apparently I was to have notified the hospital upon admitting myself that I had these medications on me, but was never asked.
At 1AM, I had to contact the Edmonds POLICE to file a report so my medications could be replaced. The police responded quickly, I filled out a report and attempted to get some rest.
I managed to get a couple hours of rest to be woken once again by the alarm going off. The staff came in with another machine, and once again the alarm went off on the new machine. A nurse came in and said it was the IV line itself and adjusted it. And again, the alarm went off about fifteen minutes later. At this point, badly sleep deprived and in pain, I proceeded to disconnect the iv line myself when a nurse walked in to do it for me and reset the machine. So excited to get some rest, i got back in to bed, fifteen minutes later, the alarm went off again as I was dozing off. At this point I got back out of bed and tossed the machine in to the bathroom and slammed the door.
Upon waking a couple hours later my doctor came in to tell me that I was being discharged. This was the highlight of my stay there! I managed to get dressed in record time, despite being in tremendous pain and overly tired and was ready to leave before the nurse came in with the discharge papers.
As I was leaving a head nurse came to my room to apologize for my "wonderful stay". That was nice.
I will NEVER return to that place again! It was HELL!
WARNING! DO NOT BRING YOUR MEDICATIONS WITH YOU TO THIS PLACE OR YOU MAY ALSO BE A VICTIM OF THEFT!
To this day, I have never received a follow up response to the conversation I had with one of your supervisors that said she would get back to me! I had to spend several hours to get my replacement medications that were stolen in your hospital.
I will never come back to you for anything, even if its life threatening, I would rather be seen by an ambulance medic than your hell hole hospital!
