This place reeks old world charm! The restaurant is situated in what once was an alley way between buildings, now fully enclosed with a high ceiling. Elegant and welcoming.
Having stayed in this hotel for so many times, we've tried most of the items on the menu. The dishes we enjoyed the most include herring combo platter, Shellfish platter, monkfish, and deck liver terrine. The chef stays close to Nordic tradition, yet infuses innovative twists that enhances tastes. Exquisite presentations.
Daily buffet breakfast has good variety and excellent quality. I particularly enjoyed smoked salmon, herrings and pickles, and perfectly boiled eggs that you squeeze in fish mousse or shrimp mousse and mix with the yolk. This is a bowl of vitamins and supplements for the take, can you imagine any US hotel offering this? My only "complaint" is they need to offer better coffee and tea, self-service machine brew seems unfitting for a restaurant of this status.
In December, Swea Hof offers one of the best Julbord (Smorgasbord) in the city. It's customary to begin with the cold dishes, but there are so many smoked fish, herring, shrimps and other shellfish, and cold meat dishes to try you may not get beyond the cold courses. But do save room for hot dishes (meatballs, sausages,) and desserts.
I'd definitely come here if we visit Gothenburg again. read more
