I appreciate the apprenticeships they offer to junior barbers, but they should really have either a bio writeup on their site and maybe offer a reduced price if you are getting a cut with a junior barber. After I came home after the cut, I noticed I had razor burn all over the back of my head, but wasn't surprised because the guy was definitely very rough with the razor. I don't usually go to fancy barbershop but I'm glad I gave this spot a try. Evan is very nice, although I'm not very talkative when getting my hair cut. He listened to what I wanted and I couldn't be happier with the results! The shop has a rustic vintage style and the dog is super friendly. They're always busy so make an appointment. Best barber cut on the shore! The place has great decor, a great vibe, and fun barbers (cute too!). I've had a few different guys, and all have been consistently excellent. They are more expensive than most (or all) other barbers in the area, but their cuts have always been so precise for my son, that he doesn't need a haircut for months. Their haircuts just grow out so nicely....So I'm the end, cheaper than a place where you need another cut in three weeks (a lot cheaper!) Yes, the online appointment thing is annoying. Haven't been there for over 3 years, however now seeing the posts on Asbury Park Press, I felt like the review is worth it now. The owner does give some quality haircuts and a nice shave if requested, however just a little too pricey for a college kid's budget. However, the reason why I haven't been there since (I do not plan on going back) was the owner expected himself to receive close to a 40% tip. He did not explicitly say to me that he wanted 40% tip but he did say to me "I need to help feed my family". At that point, he should increase the price to expect the amount of money that he desires. That rude comment left a sour taste in my mouth and I don't expect to ever try them again. No owner or employee should ever say that to their customers. read more

Great cut by Shane he's a very personable barber I was the only one in there for my appointment so it was nice. Also got a straight razor shave. Vibe is awesome classic/authentic old fashioned manly feel. Great music selection as well. It's a little pricy but nowadays you will be paying 30$ + for a good men's cut. And if you are cutting your hair twice in two weeks hate to break it to you but you need a new style. 30 bucks every 3-5 weeks + is pretty reasonable. read more

Just got out of my haircut with Vinny and it is hands down the best haircut I've ever had. I've had good haircuts for $50 and good ones for $10 but this was $30 and the attention to detail was the best I've seen. He cared a lot about what I wanted and helped me really decide on what I wanted and then made sure I was pleased with what he was doing. Wonderful location and the vibe and people are great! Going to a new barber is always a little nerve wrecking for me. I have lived in Monmouth County for over two years and and jumped from barber to barber until I have up and went to WOODBRIDGE to get it cut. Then I tried coming to Swagger & Blade once before but was turned off because they didn't take walk ins. Take my advice and don't wait another 3 months before deciding to book. I made an appt and showed up early. I was welcomed and offered a variety of beverages while I waited. The client before me was a no show so I even got to sit early. The barber told me to keep my drink under my cape and to let him know when I want more. Andrew cut my hair exactly how I asked while making me feel comfortable. Extremely disappointing and unprofessional. I booked an appointment for my fiancé to try out a shave and a hair cut in preparation for our wedding this coming summer. I called and was directed to make an appointment online, which I did, and selected "any available barber"; he was assigned to "Stephen". We traveled 2 hours for this appointment, in addition to my hair trial at a bridal salon in town. When my fiancé arrived for his appointment he was told that Stephen had quit 2 weeks ago and that they could not accommodate his appointment ( I had made this appointment 1 week ago, AFTER he had already apparently quit)! I received multiple email and text "confirmations" of his appointment over the past few days the most recent being this Morningstar 7:43 am. While someone did offer to take him after they closed at 3 pm ;for a 10:30 am appointment) this did not work with our schedule since as I mentioned we are from out of town. Had they made any attempt to contact us and cancel or reschedule this would have been understandable, but we were very disappointed in the lack of communication. read more

Alright, so here's the deal: I had two haircuts here both from the owner Shane the first one was great, one of the best I've ever gotten. Really the only Hang-up was that none of the stylists wear masks citing that legally they don't have to, which I couldn't find any local legislation proving otherwise but I'm pretty sure it's not true. But I wore mine and other patrons wore there's so it wasn't a big deal. 6 weeks later I don't know what changed but something changed. It starts when I walk in and get my temperature checked, I tell them I forgot to pay the meter and I'm teased about having to get my temperature checked again and the staff make some poking comments about me wearing a mask. When I'm in the chair Shane is actually trying to convince me to take the mask off. Then he goes into avid detail about how wearing masks is actually a satanic ritual thought up by the democratic convention and Illuminati, he said that with every COVID test they put a microchip Into your nose that when paired with the vaccine it will wipe out the human race. I thought he was screwing with me but when I realized he wasn't I just smiled and thought "dude just cut my hair and get me the hell out of here." I told him I got tested and then he yells to his staff "THIS GUY GOT MICROCHIPPED." And they all were shocked and started mumbling and being concerned. Then he looked at me concerned and took a step back saying "wait was the test positive?" (Suddenly it's not just a government conspiracy I guess) I said no and he relaxed and said "yeah I don't know a single person that's gotten the virus, do you?" I said "Yes. About a dozen." And then he moved past that and said "I'm gonna give you the blue pill my friend" and handed me his phone saying "watch this video while I finish your cut" and then he showed me this video of some random Italian "Doctor" basically saying everything he told me. Only he wasn't finishing my cut he was just watching the video over my shoulder smiling and nodding. He actually didn't even finish the cut, and in the spirit of theatrics (I guess) when the nonsensical video was over he just pulled the apron from my neck with a flourish and said "You're welcome." I paid and tipped him 15% and I just short of RAN out of there the first opportunity I got. I ended up going to another barber that didn't say a word and just fixed the hack job he gave me during his political/spiritual rant. I told all my friends and they thought it was hilarious so I'm grateful for that, but no I wouldn't go here for a haircut again. read more

This is one of the best barber shops around. Jake in the Wanamassa location is a gentleman and a professional. His skills and craftsmanship are one of the best I've ever experience. The shop has an old-school feel with a modern flair. The price is perfect for the hair cut and service you receive. This was my first trip to an actual barbershop and it was awesome. Tommy cut my hair and did a really great job in terms of listening to what I wanted, translating it to the cut, and even suggesting a slightly different style I could try next time. S&B is insanely overpriced for the quality of haircut you are receiving. The aesthetics of the barber shop are pleasing, very nice vintage decor. However, as a first time customer (having walked in the day prior, and then being told i must schedule online) I had greater expectations as I used to get my haircut for $25 at a very nice Barber shop in Center City Philadelphia (well worth the price too!!!) So, a $30 cut should be better.. right? Not whatsoever. The haircut was sub-par, and the man who cut my hair aptly styled my hair the way I requested. I still tipped $5 as this is the service job, however I will never return to S&B. Why are they charging $30 for a sub-par haircut? What's to stop customers from going to another place for a better haircut at a cheaper price? I have no idea why this place is hyped up so much, aside from aesthetics. I was frustrated with the way my hair was cut by the end of it, and it was a perfectly manageable request. I think the crew of barbers in this shop have their minds set as to how they would like their customers to look (the style where hair is long on top, slicked back, short up sides...) which is very unprofessional. S&B should be honoring every detail that the customer describes to their Barber at such a steep price for a basic cut. 1.5/5 would not recommend anybody to go here unless you are looking for one style and one style only (that is, the style your barber decides!) read more

My wife and I are moving down to the area within the month. I, unfortunately, didn't get a haircut here because it is appointment only. HOWEVER, I went there around 1:30, walked in and asked if they take "walk-in's?" The gentleman checked the schedule and replied, "We are all booked for today and tomorrow." The gentleman didn't ask if I wanted to make a future appointment or ask me to wait incase a "scheduled" customer didn't show considering it was torrential downpour. 3-4 barbers were present and ONLY one was cutting hair.
