Was blessed enough to get an appt same day with Shane. I travel often for work so i'm really good at identifying amazing barbers and Shane was no exception to that. I found the instagram page and was immediately gravitated to the quality of Shane's cuts. As someone who has been to SEVERAL barbers around the states, I have really been able to experience all types of cuts and can confidently say the quality in the photos translated perfectly in person One of the best cuts i've had. On top of the amazing haircut Shane provided extraordinary service and really took the time and effort to understand what I wanted as a new client. I made a few requests on how I like my hair being cut and not once did feel like I was an inconvenience or rushed. Not a good experience. Scheduled an appt w/ Chris this evening, was not aware Chris was still in training. If I wanted a student I would have booked at the beauty school. I went in with long hair and specifically said leave the top long and the sides cleaned up. After playing with my hair for 10 min I asked him if he was good with long hair as I could see he was struggling...sure was the reply Cuts for 20 min, destroys my hair and Shawn has to come over and finish the cut. one hour and 30 min later. It's impossible to find the words to describe how incredible these gentlemen are, so the only thing I can do is share my story and experience to show you how truly wonderful and passionate these barbers are. I am a 29-year-old cancer survivor, and on the day I got my hair cut I celebrated being 9 years cancer free! Like most cancer survivors I was not the same person after finishing chemotherapy -- I was changed in some not so good ways, but also in some absolutely amazing ways. The most long-term side effect I have experienced is losing my hair and having it not grow back completely. Prior to cancer, I had the thickest, darkest head of hair and I would get endless compliments about it. Fast forward to post-cancer life and I was left with wisps of hair on the crown of my head and regular density on the sides (sexy, I know!). This caused me to lose my confidence and my identity. After years of struggling with my appearance and lots of research, I finally decided to reclaim my happiness and I purchased a hair system, which is a high-end wig for guys. Normally, I would not have gotten my hair cut here because I live in Maryland, but I had a hair emergency! I had just got a new system the day before and wanted a fresh cut from a barber. I made an appointment with a local barber in Maryland and explained my entire situation and he assured me he could cut my hair. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way and he told me on the day of my appointment he wasn't comfortable cutting my system and could only trim my sides. I'm sure you could imagine the outcome... HILARIOUS! I looked like Charlie Chaplin. I left that appointment embarrassed and afraid I made the wrong decision. Since I was headed to New Jersey to celebrate my "cancerversary" with friends, I drove to New Jersey to see my friends and immediately asked for their barber recommendations in the area. Without hesitation they said Swagger & Blade, so I gave them a call. If I'm being honest, it is very difficult for me to have to tell someone new who is cutting my hair about my hair loss and that I have a hair system, and the gentleman on the other end of the phone could hear I was uncomfortable and he immediately assured me they could take care of me and could get me in the next day. Here is where the magic happens! I walked into the the Wanamassa location and was immediately greeted by Matt, who was my barber that day; Shane, another barber there; and Trixie, the cutest Corgi with the fluffiest bouncing booty. I sat in the chair and Matt seamlessly transition the conversation from Trixie to my hair. I explained my journey to them and that it was my nine-year cancer-free anniversary. While I was telling my story, Shane came over, put his hand on my shoulder, and told me it was his 9 year anniversary of overcoming his own personal struggle. He could see I was emotional about my journey and that I was desperate for help, but very nervous. He told me I'm in good hands and that he would not let me leave until I looked perfect. He told me all the barbers there are survivors of some type of battle and are on a mission to spread love and understanding all while helping others like them. We all continued to talk about how grateful we are for who we have become after our battle and how excited we are to live this second life we have been given. Matt did an INCREDIBLE job on my hair! He made me feel more confident than before cancer. I have dreamed of having a haircut like this, and to feel like yourself is a feeling that is beyond priceless. Money doesn't cover the worth of what he gave me. But what I can do is give him my business and drive from Maryland to NJ! Bottom of the line is this crew of guys care about what they do, they care about their clients, they care about their craft, and they want to make a difference inside and outside the shop. Hands down the best barber shop in the tri state area. True masters of their craft. I am in the military, but anytime I am home I make sure to come get my hair cut hair. I'd ignore all the 1 star reviews, Asbury Park has a very political community and are trying to sabotage a business because they don't agree politically. read more

S & B is hands down FIRE. Start with the Ambiance.....100 year old barber chairs. The heads of recently departed non extinct animals. The history of the building reaching back decades. The appropriate placed, 60 year old boxing gloves and speed bag. My guy was named Josh. Brilliant stylist with an irreverent sense of humor. His colleagues equally as chill and fun to be around. The "Butcher's Block" of Barber Shops !!The music was banging - classic Curtis Mayfield. While there, I had in the chairs next to me a 12 year old boy with his proud father and a mid 20 lad in for a clean up. I'm damn near 60 and had an outstanding experience. I had 2 beard trims and finally booked a haircut for a Friday night using the easy to use online service. My time came and went and was finally told by a different barber (Dan) that he would take me. Dan did a great job and I liked the cut. The AP shop has old school barber chairs and a great rustic finish. My only complaint was getting pushed off on another barber with no acknowledgement. read more

Solid experience! Stopped in for my first cut at this shop and walked away more than impressed. Had my hair cut by Jake. First- the shop: This is a classic barber shop. It is a nod to the old days with an eclectic array of ephemera, all while presenting itself as clean and well kept. There is an instant sense of comfort stepping into S&B. Stations are well organized- you can tell the barbers here take pride in their craft. Second- the barber: Jake absolutely knocked it out of the box. I've resorted to shaving my own head and trimming my own beard due to several disappointing trips to several other barbers in the Ocean/Monmouth area in the past. I decided to give Swagger & Blade a try and will be back as a regular customer due to having such a positive experience. Got my head buzzed. Completely uniform all around. No missed spots or digs. Not usually something I do. However working in an industry that does enchance peoples confidence and appearance. I was so disappointed at the lack of "doing what the customer asks for" if I show you pictures of what I'd like, and specifically say so not remove too much length; by all means tell me it's not within your capability and I'll go somewhere else. By the time we're done, and I'm looking for the detail and finished product and it's absolutely nothing like what I asked for, it's disappointing. Work on your craft, and out of your comfort zone. If the customer requires a bit more detail and you revert to your basic "fade" let them know before the leave your chair disappointed. read more

Got a cut i did not ask for and also was shown after the fact that there were two lines shaved in the side of my head. I could have lived with the cut had it not been for the God awful lines on the side of my head. This is a problem for me because I was looking for a more professional cut being that I am a month away from graduation and I have several interviews scheduled over the course of the next few weeks. Needless to say I am pretty embarrassed to be walking around with this haircut and will most likely have to re-schedule my interviews to avoid looking like a complete idiot with these stupid lines in the side of my head, do not come here if you want the barber to do exactly what you want as they will most likely get creative on you and potentially ruin your chances at finding a job with stupid lines in the side of your head. read more
