My sister took me today for my 50th birthday celebration and it was out of this world great! We worked out in the fight fitness class, then did the hot tub, steam room, cold pool and lunch. We finished with the capper! A 90 minute massage from their master Masseuses in the fabulous LifeTime Spa. I highly recommend requesting Caroline, who was expert level! A great facility with fantastic customer service, expert training and wellness professionals. I look forward to returning on future trips back to Massachusetts.

1/5 -- Luxury Gym, Questionable Leadership…read more After nearly two years working at Life Time Fitness, I can confidently say that the facility is luxurious, but the way employees are treated behind the scenes is anything but. For a company that prides itself on health, wellness, and community, it's remarkable how little of that philosophy seems to extend to the people actually working there. Let's start with compensation. Nearly two years without a single raise, despite having a master's degree, previous experience in higher-level positions, and taking on responsibilities beyond my job description. I conducted membership tours, worked difficult closing shifts, and consistently contributed to front desk operations. Apparently, the expectation is to provide a luxury experience while being compensated as though employee development is an optional amenity. Management also seemed to have an unusual fascination with minor infractions. Whether it was sitting in a chair, having the wrong footwear, or occasionally checking a phone during an otherwise empty closing shift, you would think we were under investigation for a felony rather than working the front desk of a gym. God forbid an employee be comfortable. I came to work at a health club, not audition for a prison documentary. And apparently, requesting a chair or discussing workplace comfort requires a level of paperwork and scrutiny that could rival a government security clearance. For a business built around physical well-being, the irony is almost impressive. I understand that policies exist, and I certainly wasn't a perfect employee. However, there is a difference between maintaining professional standards and creating an environment where employees feel as though every minor action is being monitored in anticipation of the next warning. At times, it genuinely felt like there was a target on my back. What makes this particularly disappointing is the lack of meaningful communication. I repeatedly raised concerns about scheduling, compensation, and opportunities for advancement. Rather than feeling heard, I often felt dismissed or left waiting for answers. The grand finale was especially memorable. I requested a one-on-one meeting with my manager to discuss my pay and scheduling. Instead, I arrived to find the general manager unexpectedly joining the conversation, only to be informed that the company had decided to "part ways" with me. Apparently, asking for a conversation about compensation comes with a complimentary surprise exit interview. At least that was one benefit they didn't charge extra for. After nearly two years, I would have appreciated some transparency about the actual purpose of the meeting. Instead, I made the trip expecting a productive discussion and walked out unemployed. I fully recognize that employees should be held accountable for their actions. However, accountability should extend to leadership as well. When employees repeatedly express concerns about scheduling, compensation, workplace conditions, and communication, perhaps the solution isn't always another warning or another replacement. I've watched several employees leave in recent months, and I genuinely hope management begins asking why. When turnover becomes a recurring theme, eventually you have to consider whether the problem is always the employees. Life Time has no shortage of expectations for its staff. Unfortunately, in my experience, the same standards of communication, empathy, and professionalism weren't consistently demonstrated by those in leadership. The members and many of my coworkers were wonderful, and they made the job worthwhile. My disappointment is not with them or the facility itself, but with the management culture I experienced. For a company that charges premium membership prices and promotes an exceptional lifestyle, perhaps some of that investment could go toward employee compensation, retention, and leadership development. A luxury facility doesn't automatically mean luxury leadership. And when a company spends more time policing employees than supporting them, perhaps it's time for management to look in the mirror instead of constantly looking for the next person to replace. I wish the employees who remain the best. They deserve to feel just as valued as the members they're expected to serve.

I've been going here on and off since 2007 and this place has gone downhill since then. When I…read morefirst started working out here, the employees were all super friendly, now they're all miserable. There was also air conditioning in here at the time, but now there isn't. Sometimes it's hotter inside that it is outside and there is only one fan near the treadmills, and I can barely feel it even when I'm directly under it. There has been a lot of unneeded renovations in the past couple of years, and it has been really inconvenient. I don't care if the gym looks like the Taj Mahal, I just want a functioning bathroom and workout equipment and there have been times there have been neither because of construction. This summer I was hoping to get back in shape but every time I went, they have been closed for one reason or another. The latest excuse is they were replacing the workout equipment, which I do admit they desperately need, especially for the treadmills. I was looking forward to trying out the new equipment, but surprise, surprise, I went today, and it was closed again! The new reason is infuriating--they're not 24/7 anymore! This location is really out of the way for me but being able to go anytime I wanted made it worth it. I usually work out later at night, so I guess I have to find a new gym now. I also don't know what the actual hours are now because the hours on yelp and the hours on the Planet Fitness website are completely different. According to Yelp they are 24 hours Monday through Thursday, but Planet Fitness says they closed at 12 am Monday through Thursday. And according to this website, they're going to be returning to 24/7 in September when the Planet Fitness website says nothing about that. I'm really getting sick of this guessing game, and I plan on joining a new gym soon.

Horrible Customer Service - Loyal Member Lost…read more After years of being a member at Best Fitness, I can confidently say I will never be returning. While I was out of the country, I froze my membership, only to later be contacted by a collection agency claiming I owed $500! To make matters worse, my credit card had even been canceled, yet I was somehow still being billed. When I contacted Best Fitness in Danvers to address the situation, I was told that Joe, the membership/account services manager, would look into it and get back to me with a possible resolution. That call never came. Eventually, the collection account began negatively affecting my credit, so I had no choice but to pay the $500 out of pocket just to put the situation behind me. What frustrates me most isn't even the money. It's the complete lack of communication, accountability, and customer service after years of being a loyal member. I've referred multiple people to Best Fitness over the years, and after hearing about my experience, they're now canceling their memberships and switching to Ultraflex as well. My advice: Keep a very close eye on your membership, billing statements, and account status. Don't assume that freezing your membership means you won't continue being charged. Extremely disappointing experience, especially from a business I've supported for years. Best Fitness has permanently lost my business.
