Emergency room is so disorganized. Wait time is horrible. You are just a medical record number to them. Zero care and empathy from staff.

Poor care takes too long to be seen by a doctor and they don't help when it comes to those who have a serious illness

It was crazy, but at least I had many things done that day. During that visit, I came in with very bad back and neck pain following a car crash that had happened a few months earlier. It was pretty hard to convince them that I needed an MRI, but when we finally got the referral, we had to wait about 5 hours before it was done. Another issue we faced was that the referral was only for a lower back MRI. It was my first MRI ever, and I was already very scared, tired, and hungry. So when I got to the MRI room and was told they were only scanning my lower back, I got visibly upset. Big thanks to the two gentlemen who were helping me get ready for the MRI. One of them helped me calm down, while the other spoke to the doctor and convinced her to include a neck MRI too, since I was already there. I am very thankful for that. The MRI did reveal some findings, and after a few other tests, the doctor referred me to see specialists in the future. Another thing I want to mention is my experience with one of the nurses. She measured my blood pressure. The first time, the results came out too low, and she literally said "That cant be right". Then she measured it two more times until the results were higher. I have low blood pressure! For me, 90/50 is somewhat normal. The fact that she kept remeasuring until it was "higher" felt a little weird. Overall, it can really be hit or miss depending on who you get to take care of you while you are here.

Reach for the phone and call the only person you know who would be awake at this hour on a Tuesday night. They don't answer their phone. Call Mom, she's a nurse. She says go to the hospital. Start to cry a little, call 9-1-1. Paramedics are there in less than five minutes. You don't even have shoes on yet. They help you lock the door to your apartment. You're in the ambulance and a cute paramedic asks you about your pain while he gets your vitals. He even offers you a teddy bear to squeeze. They know you're new to the city and you don't even know where you should go with your insurance, so they drive you there, free of charge. My EMT was the nicest man, set me up on a breathing nebuliser in record time, held my hand all the way to the hospital and kept telling me that my color was good, my oxygen was good and I was going to be fine. Yeah, it was pretty bad. Fortunately, this stuff doesn't make me squeamish and was able to accompany my sister throughout the 4 hour process of waiting, getting blood pressure checked (90/45 as she was in shock), cleaning her wound, getting local anesthesia and stitched up. Oh yeah I saw it all and found it fascinating! The waiting room wasn't too busy (about 12 people) but the ER area (in back) was pretty full so sister was put on a gurney to wait in the hall and where Dr. E Hartnett and staff took care of her. Everyone we encountered: advice nurse (she stayed on the line: 20mins until I reached my sister's place), admission/discharge staff (Martha V), triage nurse (didn't get name but saw she was an Air Force veteran) ER doctor (Dr. E Hartnett) and ER nurse (Angelina P) all were very professional, friendly and kind. Then off to CT scan and X-rays while I waited in the ER as they wheeled her back to ensure nothing else was damaged. Overall, with the constant flow of patients in the back I found staff to be very efficient, professional and empathetic. No complaints and sister agrees with her ER experience.

I wanted the appointment changed due to me working 24/7 while on these work trips, but if they absolutely could not change it, then i would take it from chicago, not an issue. The lady starts yelling at me over the phone telling me the call is recorded and that I am not allowed to take the call from chicago (while i reside in ca). I thought this was really unprofessional. She told me next availability is 4 months from today. She also told me they TRACK WHERE I AM DURING THESE VIDEO VISITS. I thought this was so inappropriate. Isn't this a VIOLATION of my privacy??? She then transferred me to my doctors office. My doctor told me she can see me on Thursday with no issues while I take the call before my work trip.

I recently had to pay a visit to the Emergency Department at El Camino. I have been to this ER many…read moretimes as well as being a patient in the main hospital for surgeries and the recovery that follows. I have always experienced excellent care here. I have an auto immune disease that sometimes causes my inflammatory markers to skyrocket and this will cause me so much pain, beyond what I can control at home. That's exactly what happened last week. I knew I was in trouble and needed to get to the ER fast. My husband got us there quickly and I checked in. I was taken to the triage area for my vitals. Luckily I'm in their system. And most of my Doctors are connected with El Camino because they are a part of Sutter Health. So the hospital knows my health history. The waiting area was packed with sick people. I'm thinking, this is going to be a long and painful wait. I was called back to see the Dr. within a few minutes, which was surprisingly quick. They got me a wheelchair and took me back. All of my joints were hurting so bad that it hurt to walk. I explained everything to Dr. Tsai. I appreciated that he listened to me and took the time to ask important questions. I told him I was supposed to get labs done tomorrow for my metabolic panel because I wasn't feeling well and I told him that the way I was feeling probably meant my inflammatory markers, ESR and C-reactive protein were probably very high. He told me he would order all those tests immediately and start me off with pain pills first and then progress to stronger IV meds if the pills didn't work. I also mentioned to him that the new medication that I have been taking for this problem has not been working very well and my rheumatologist was trying to get prior authorization to increase the dose of that new medication. That's why my pain had gotten out of hand. I was sent back to the waiting area, again, to wait to get my labs done. I was again called back within a few minutes. I was taken back for the bloodwork. Then taken to a private patient room, where I could lay down in a bed and get my IV started. I met the nurses that would be taking care of me. I let them know that it's hard finding my veins. I appreciated that the nurse believed me and got a vein finder to help with finding a vein. She was able to find one that was deeper, in my arm, but it was a good vein. She got the IV started. Her patience with getting my IV started was awesome. A lot of times nurses don't believe me when I tell them I'm a hard stick. She was wonderful and did an amazing job with my IV. Since the pills didn't work for my pain, we moved on to stronger IV pain medication. I was also felling nauseated from the pain. They didn't hesitate to give me nausea medication, right away. As it turned out, my inflammatory markers were extraordinarily high. They gave me the best pain management over the next several hours and didn't discharge me until my pain was under control and I was more relaxed and calm. Pain like that is horrible. I want to give a huge thank you to Dr. Tsai and nurses for listening to me and my pain concerns and doing everything they could to stabilize me. I have followed up with my doctors and am on a new medication regimen to help with the inflammation. I am finally feeling better. The medical team here, treated me with respect and dignity. Everyone was very professional and kind. I am grateful to the medical team that took care of me that day. Thank you to Dr. Tsai and the nurses that all worked collaboratively, to get me feeling better.

Most of the doctors I've dealt with here are unfriendly, have terrible bedside manners, and are dismissive. I've been dealing with them since I was a child I am now 61. Nothing has changed and nothing will ever change. They put incorrect info in your file, and refuse to remove it. It takes forever to get an appt. They ask you a bunch of redundant questions over and over and over and over and etc. They don't read your file prior to your appt. They always want to take your weight, and ask you about exercise when the majority of their aides are grossly overweight go figure doesn't it start within. They've started asking do you feel safe at home? The only time I don't feel safe is when I come to Kaiser... I have a laundry list of health problems the majority of them could have been prevented, and surgeries could have been avoided too. If Kaiser would have done it's job as a health care provider rather than drag their feet. The doctors their have no listening skills. They have the ability to only pick out a few words your saying. Their always in a rush. I'm on time for my appt yet I've wait in that room for 30 minutes or more. Then the doctor has the audacity to look at their watch shortly after they get in there. I do not have their full attention, because I've repeated myself twice. This is pathetic. If no one knows I would recommend that you read your patient files. You will gain a wealth of knowledge maybe there are things that should not be there like lies. There could be diagnosis you are unaware of, a lot of stuff Kaiser ppl are talking about to others in an unprofessional manner. I advise you to check it out. I found all the above in my files. I just recently found out my current doctor told me something, but he wrote to another doctor about me the exact opposite. This was very disheartening. I was upset because I felt they did not follow the proper steps and diagnosed me with a life threatening disease. I was upset, and requested a 2nd opinion because we just don't believe that I'm exhibiting enough of the symptoms for this to be accurate. I have the right to ask for a 2nd opinion which they still are refusing to give me. In their patient summary notes they characterized me as a "angry patient". Keep in mind I am black woman so they used the stereotypical language that most ppl use to describe black women. This is not only unprofessional it's downright offensive. As doctors you think that they would be conscious of their choice of vocabulary. However, if those are your thoughts you don't need to be. I'm not an angry black woman. I'm a patient who pays a monthly premium that in turn help to cover Kaiser lies about being a nonprofit. I'm actually a woman with a passion but her health, and an advocate within in that. It's a blessing to have health care, but their is no blessings in Kaiser. They are truly the worst time that ever happened to me. There is nothing to Thrive in Kaiser. And the slogan For all we do is more like for all we don't do. My mother died at Vacaville Kaiser in 2016 you think I would have left them alone after that fiasco.
