Emergency room is so disorganized. Wait time is horrible. You are just a medical record number to them. Zero care and empathy from staff.

Poor care takes too long to be seen by a doctor and they don't help when it comes to those who have a serious illness

Depends on what you come here for, the wait can be quite long…read more Unfortunately, in the last year, I've been to this place three times. One of our longest visits was 9.5 hours long overall. It was crazy, but at least I had many things done that day. During that visit, I came in with very bad back and neck pain following a car crash that had happened a few months earlier. It was pretty hard to convince them that I needed an MRI, but when we finally got the referral, we had to wait about 5 hours before it was done. Another issue we faced was that the referral was only for a lower back MRI. It was my first MRI ever, and I was already very scared, tired, and hungry. So when I got to the MRI room and was told they were only scanning my lower back, I got visibly upset. Big thanks to the two gentlemen who were helping me get ready for the MRI. One of them helped me calm down, while the other spoke to the doctor and convinced her to include a neck MRI too, since I was already there. I am very thankful for that. The MRI did reveal some findings, and after a few other tests, the doctor referred me to see specialists in the future. Another thing I want to mention is my experience with one of the nurses. She measured my blood pressure. The first time, the results came out too low, and she literally said "That cant be right". Then she measured it two more times until the results were higher. I have low blood pressure! For me, 90/50 is somewhat normal. The fact that she kept remeasuring until it was "higher" felt a little weird. Overall, it can really be hit or miss depending on who you get to take care of you while you are here.

The ED does some things very well: a dedicated nurse and doctor who triage each patient together; very friendly security guards who are helpful; polite and helpful registration people; and a separate room for families or individuals who need a dark, quiet place to wait. What is evident is: everything is resource constrained from parking to staff to chairs, to rooms, beds, doctors, nurses, etc. Some people seem to be here as if it's a convenient place to meet after tennis with the added benefit that they can get a shot for pain management. Others are splayed across sofas groaning and have been for the three hours we have been waiting for my husband to be seen for a stroke. My rating would be lower if everyone working in the ED wasn't hustling and very pleasant. They are all extremely dedicated to helping others. But, it is frustrating that resources are choked at some point and when your loved one needs emergency care that bottle neck is a huge problem.

Reach for the phone and call the only person you know who would be awake at this hour on a Tuesday night. They don't answer their phone. Call Mom, she's a nurse. She says go to the hospital. Start to cry a little, call 9-1-1. Paramedics are there in less than five minutes. You don't even have shoes on yet. They help you lock the door to your apartment. You're in the ambulance and a cute paramedic asks you about your pain while he gets your vitals. He even offers you a teddy bear to squeeze. They know you're new to the city and you don't even know where you should go with your insurance, so they drive you there, free of charge. Remember to write them a great review on Yelp, and not just because they were ridiculously good-looking.

I had one of these attacks at Safeway on a kind of stressful shopping excursion. I was very close to my airway being completely closed, and knew it and I was terrified. My EMT was the nicest man, set me up on a breathing nebuliser in record time, held my hand all the way to the hospital and kept telling me that my color was good, my oxygen was good and I was going to be fine. I thank God for those guys.

I visited the ER on Feb 6th, 2025 around 6PM. I had previous been at a doctors appointment in UC…read morewhen my NP told me my symptoms were too serious to be treated and that I needed to go to the emergency room. My NP was insistent on calling an ambulance for me, but I told her I can get someone to drive me to SL ED instead. When I arrived, we found parking quickly, and found the ED to be screened by security which was a nice peace of mind. To say emergency departments are understaffed in general is an understatement! Having worked as a paramedic, I fully expected to wait a long time as I know its super busy. Notably, I also underplayed my own situation, as I am so desensitized to seeing way worse, it didn't entirely dawn on me that my situation was bad. I spoke to the receptionist and she took down my information as we chatted about dogs. Then I waited in the waiting room, which was unexpectedly full(it wasnt even a full moon tonight)! There weren't many available seats so I stood against a wall, and was called within 5 minutes. The ER nurse doing triage took my vitals and instantly took me back to do a EKG. My HR was at 150 with BP of 170/101, and sinus tach on the EKG, so it was quite serious in numers term(though I was most asymptomatic). I heard the nurse show the ER doc my EKG results in which he probably said, "Oh wow, bring the patient back here". So, they brought me back and promptly did blood draws and covid test. Then moved me to a room, did an XRay, in case I had a blood clot in my heart. Which I really applauded the ER doc for thinking of other probable causes for my elevated vitals. They also checked for infection, etc. They had me sit in a chair, and gave me fluids and then Metrolpolol to bring my HR down. Then they did a CAT scan. Then they almost did another XRay, but the doc canceled it last minute. The only reason I'm giving them a 4 star instead of a 5 is because of how poorly understaffed they are, I wish KP would just give nurses better incentives and apply so they would retain more staff with KP. The poor nurses, techs and doctors, running around trying to get things done. I didn't leave until 11PM, but if metropolol didn't work, they were planning to keep me overnight and administer more medication via IV. So, im glad my heart decided to respond to the medication! They also redid a covid test, 2 blood cultures, 2 blood tests, and a urine test because it wasn't logged in the charts. Overall, I appreciate all of the hard work and thank you to the ER techs, nurses and doctors for trying to work as fast as possible to get me out of the ED! Nonetheless, great job!

I felt pain &heaviness at a wound site & it had been bothering me for the time we waited. .My dad is gaunt, dehydrated among other things and two home health nurses were visiting when they suggested he go to ER right away.At some point I was seated more than once when he finally got to the section of the hospital where he got a CT Scan &one other time for X-rays.There was the time when he was in triage &they checked him over. I believe as I sat down at one of these stations a woman quickly reached beside me &grabbed something from the seat I was sitting in.I said what was that? Her reply was "just a ..."no words followed.i lay her feeling like I've gotten stuck with a needle &what I feel just under my skin is a needle broken off.I tried to take a photo.I flew as fast as I could because a case worker called me where I live in Northern AZ and told me "you need to get here & take care of your dad. He needs help.He has dementia you know?" I later found this same case worker has had other complaints. I spoke to her later & I had several Messages in to her &she told me to call member services. the run around began. It was impossible to get a live person. Very few people that we encountered while at the hospital seemed to enjoy their job. At first all of the different perfumes, colognes and other smells became a little overwhelming. I thought of all the 20-30 people waiting in the lobby, sleeping across the chairs, and looking land my own father that was having breathing issues and how uncomfortable that could be to smell when you arrive at ER and have to smell during a 5 hour wait. We were told he would get the first available bed in ER & when I finally asked because my dads heartbeat dropped lower than the bone health nurse said is safe, I was told he had three people ahead of him. Okay busy day/night and I tried to flirt, be friendly, compliment and lighten the environment. There were a bunch of Annoyed, seemingly angry people working there. I really wish I could see the site where I got poked because it feels wierd and that whole area on my thigh/hip feels odd and painful. I believe we finally got back to an ER bed when I was stuck. The ER area with the proverbial clothe dividers for privacy smelled badly of urine. My dad joked "I don't think it was me but I don't know". It was not him. There was a red trash bin inside works and it stink I'm Assuming. Back to the lobby there was a non operable restroom at one end where we waited each time we were brought back. There were some small boxes of tissues and my dad was drilling as he'd had a stroke a few days before I got here from AZ. I looked for more tissues and there was only one empty box. One very kind employee that wheeled my dad back from x-ray got me two warm blankets with a smile when requested. But no tissues, no restroom and I later learned there was no cafeteria open when I looked around 5. The best part besides someone trying to scoop up a needle I sat on, the Dr Jaqueline Pels walks in and asked "why are you here" imagine condescending tone. My dad tried to explain and I added some reasons, and she continued in a condescending tone "that's not what I have in my chart" she might've thrown her hand on her hips with a little head bob to match the tone of her voice and shitty attitude. Then she proceeded to say " you walk fine " he's been so weak and had already fallen before I got here and the two home health nurses witnessed him falling again when he tried to sit up out of bed to get dressed at home. She said to me how did he get here ? I said a wheel chair. Did he come in a car? How did he get to the car ? We had a home health nurse holding him by his belt and a walker from his place. She made it sound like he shouldn't be there. She asked if he was following his "diet". I guess the one after release after the stroke 6 days ago. ?? She asked me if I'm adding thickeners to his food? I said I just got here Sat after a social worker named Ebony called me in N AZ on & said you need to get here to take care of your dad because he has dementia with no worry that he'd just had a stroke and walked out of his apt while on the phone with me to leave him alone! My dad is sharp &'doesn't have dementia. I animatedly said while she stood by his bed "whatever we are doing here I'm not liking it!" She immediately got even more ugly and said we don't have to give him care or something to that effect. I was going to switch with his friend and his friend had left and a security guard escorts you everywhere with one more reason to wait. His friend came back because I have no car here. I can't see my accidental injection site and it's hurting more with each minuteI. I think I sat on a needle. Vallejo ER is a night mare! To be cont.
