Yeah! Not the place you want to be on a Saturday night! And some of the pictures posted here! YIKES! Well, I am glad I have this institution to take care of me! I find it very hard to believe that this department, a very fine department, doesn't have a higher rating! Well it's 5 stars for me. Not even going to read other reviews! The Kaiser San Leandro Emergency Room IS a FIVE, 5 ***** star facility! Was logged in, seen and released within 2 hours of showing up. All facets of this facility are well covered from security, administrative, nurses and nurses assistance, the doctor, plus the custodial team was about. I've been to this ER at least 10 times for myself or other and I can not recall a negative experience! Rock on Kaiser ER team!

My son, who is attending college, wasn't feeling well and ended up at Alameda Hospital. On our way to the Bay, I read some reviews about the hospital and started to feel nervous. But I'm here to say that our experience was the complete opposite. The service and care were beyond what I expected from a hospital. My son had a collapsed lung and needed a chest tube. The ICU doctor personally called me and my husband and clearly explained everything that was happening and what they were about to do. He was compassionate, patient, and reassuring. He promised to call us as soon as the procedure was done and he did. What felt like forever, but was really only about an hour, he called back to let us know everything was successful and that our son would be admitted for observation. We arrived at the hospital around 11 p.m. Security initially hesitated to let us in, but once they confirmed where our son was and understood that we had just driven over four hours, they kindly allowed us to go up and see him. Our son stayed in the hospital for three days, and I truly have no complaints and only praise. Every doctor, nurse, and staff member we encountered was kind, understanding, and accommodating. Everything the medical team said they would do, they did with little to no wait time or delay. Even the security personnel at the entrance were friendly and compassionate each day we were there. I am beyond thankful for this hospital and deeply grateful for every employee who showed us such kindness during one of the most frightening moments of our lives. I will forever be grateful.

They diagnosed a bowel blockage as an aortic aneurism so they said just wait until your Drs office is open next week. Severe incompetence. Her cardio thoracic surgeon was very upset at such an obvious condition was missed entirely. Basically med school day 1 and they couldn't do it. Not to mention that they also couldn't even find a wheelchair to take my mom inside for about 15 minutes. Really? No wheelchairs at the entrance to the ER? Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, Oakland…read more This review is for the 3rd floor, Surgery Intake. Upon checking in, I was called in pretty quickly and was seen right away. The care I've received was phenomenal! The first nurse who registered me in was super supportive. I didn't get her name but she was a G.I nurse prior and a nurse for 20 years, she wore all red, has short hair with cute glasses! She was very informative, helpful and direct. It was a great experience! There were many staff who also help me to relax about the whole procedure. I honestly don't remember the surgery but remember the after care. The staff who cared for me were Chris, Gia and Senora/ Cinora. Chris made sure I was awake and aware when the anesthesia wore off before sending me to the recovery room where I met nurse Gia. Nurse Gia helped me with understanding the after care instructions, made sure I was well and okay to leave. It was cool to get to know her as well, we have very similar birthdays and I think that was cool! Senora/ Cinora was very kind and sweet. Overall, I had a great experience with 3rd floor- Surgery Intake and would highly recommend them to other people. Thanks to all the medical staffs and doctors also!

Every staff and nurse we've met so far has been helpful and friendly, especially in taking care of my elder parents. So far no issues. The inside and getting to the medical office is like a maze though. Haha You can easily get lost like I did. The parking is an issue for me as you have a garage parking but can only be validated for a few hours for free and then you pay. It's expensive. There is also valet but that is expensive. Why do we have to pay parking for patients? Your appointment is never under two hours; you would be lucky if it was. The street parking is the cheapest and so far I have been lucky in finding one close especially, for my parents. All in all, I appreciate the staff here in trying to help us the best they can. I also worked…read morein the healthcare industry and would like to have compassion for other healthcare workers, but this doctor is definitely not a people person. Due to both arms and my right elbow injury, his diagnosis was that it was due to my bone structure and genetic makeup. This was new to me since I had never heard that before. I am a larger guy, I don't use my hands and arms for strenuous work, healthy, and work out 3x/week with an experienced coach--nothing out of the ordinary. Working with thousands of people in healthcare and other fields, we come across many different ailments, injuries, and stories. At first, I took it as new education and considered that perhaps my DNA structure and genetics were contributing to my injury and pain. I mentioned this to colleagues, other doctors at work, and experienced professionals, and they said they had never heard of this before. While not completely ruled out, it was unusual. 3rd visit: After receiving my MRIs and X-rays, I showed up for my appointment and waited close to 2 hours, which is excessive considering it was scheduled. When I was called in, Dr. Stein did not greet me and instead commented about having to skip his lunch break due to a busy day. I understand demanding schedules, but there was no acknowledgment that patients are also taking time out of their lives--missing work, managing responsibilities, and traveling to appointments. A simple courtesy call from staff to let me know he was running behind would have gone a long way. Yet, I remained calm and open-minded. When I went in, I asked if he could check my other arm, as I had started experiencing soreness. He immediately dismissed it, saying nothing would show up and did not examine it. Within a week, that same arm developed increased pain and numbness, despite avoiding heavy use and refraining from working out. I've met many professionals like Dr. Stein, and it was clear that his level of expertise contributes to an ego that comes across as dismissive. He appeared rushed and condescending during all visits. When I had a few additional questions to better understand the procedure he said he only had limited time to answer. After waiting over 2 hours, I would expect at least 15 minutes of clear communication before a procedure that carries risks. I understand his practice is a business, but business also requires trust, communication, and respect. Patients want to feel confident in the person operating on them. Comments he made about preferring certain insurance because they paid more were unprofessional. Regardless, he may not get paid as much as other insurance companies, but he's going to get a paid a large sum for the surgery. While I believe he has the technical ability to perform surgery, I am not comfortable with someone who is rushed and potentially distracted. If appointments are rushed, it raises concern about the level of care during procedures. And he may even rush through the surgery to get to another appointment or procedure, which leaves more room for error. The reality is doctors cannot guarantee outcomes, but they are responsible for proper care, communication, and follow-up. Once you sign surgical paperwork, you waive many rights--even in cases of error. If there were stronger accountability systems, I believe Dr. Andrew Stein would treat others with more respect. I am aware there are legal avenues if something goes wrong, but I would prefer not to be in that position due to lack of accountability or care. His staff appeared disengaged and under pressure. I've worked in environments where teams create a welcoming atmosphere--this did not feel like one. The way he spoke to his staff suggested stress and tension. It seems like a 50/50 chance of a smooth and full recovery without complications from him and his staff. After reading additional reviews, my experience seems consistent with others, which validated my instincts to seek another surgeon who felt more respectful. *To previous and future patients: trust your observations and instincts. If Andrew Stein feels like the right fit, he may help you. If not, you have options. Sometimes going a little further for the right provider makes all the difference. Appreciate everyone who has shared their honest experiences.
