Review is for today's visit (Tuesday, 12/10/24) to Kaiser ER San Leandro. Sister had a freak accident and gashed her hand to the point of hitting down to the flesh. Yeah, it was pretty bad. Fortunately, this stuff doesn't make me squeamish and was able to accompany my sister throughout the 4 hour process of waiting, getting blood pressure checked (90/45 as she was in shock), cleaning her wound, getting local anesthesia and stitched up. Oh yeah I saw it all and found it fascinating! The waiting room wasn't too busy (about 12 people) but the ER area (in back) was pretty full so sister was put on a gurney to wait in the hall and where Dr. E Hartnett and staff took care of her. Everyone we encountered: advice nurse (she stayed on the line: 20mins until I reached my sister's place), admission/discharge staff (Martha V), triage nurse (didn't get name but saw she was an Air Force veteran) ER doctor (Dr. E Hartnett) and ER nurse (Angelina P) all were very professional, friendly and kind. Then off to CT scan and X-rays while I waited in the ER as they wheeled her back to ensure nothing else was damaged. Overall, with the constant flow of patients in the back I found staff to be very efficient, professional and empathetic. No complaints and sister agrees with her ER experience. read more

I visited the ER on Feb 6th, 2025 around 6PM. I had previous been at a doctors appointment in UC when my NP told me my symptoms were too serious to be treated and that I needed to go to the emergency room. My NP was insistent on calling an ambulance for me, but I told her I can get someone to drive me to SL ED instead. When I arrived, we found parking quickly, and found the ED to be screened by security which was a nice peace of mind. To say emergency departments are understaffed in general is an understatement! Having worked as a paramedic, I fully expected to wait a long time as I know its super busy. Notably, I also underplayed my own situation, as I am so desensitized to seeing way worse, it didn't entirely dawn on me that my situation was bad. I spoke to the receptionist and she took down my information as we chatted about dogs. Then I waited in the waiting room, which was unexpectedly full(it wasnt even a full moon tonight)! There weren't many available seats so I stood against a wall, and was called within 5 minutes. The ER nurse doing triage took my vitals and instantly took me back to do a EKG. My HR was at 150 with BP of 170/101, and sinus tach on the EKG, so it was quite serious in numers term(though I was most asymptomatic). I heard the nurse show the ER doc my EKG results in which he probably said, "Oh wow, bring the patient back here". So, they brought me back and promptly did blood draws and covid test. Then moved me to a room, did an XRay, in case I had a blood clot in my heart. Which I really applauded the ER doc for thinking of other probable causes for my elevated vitals. They also checked for infection, etc. They had me sit in a chair, and gave me fluids and then Metrolpolol to bring my HR down. Then they did a CAT scan. Then they almost did another XRay, but the doc canceled it last minute. The only reason I'm giving them a 4 star instead of a 5 is because of how poorly understaffed they are, I wish KP would just give nurses better incentives and apply so they would retain more staff with KP. The poor nurses, techs and doctors, running around trying to get things done. I didn't leave until 11PM, but if metropolol didn't work, they were planning to keep me overnight and administer more medication via IV. So, im glad my heart decided to respond to the medication! They also redid a covid test, 2 blood cultures, 2 blood tests, and a urine test because it wasn't logged in the charts. Overall, I appreciate all of the hard work and thank you to the ER techs, nurses and doctors for trying to work as fast as possible to get me out of the ED! Nonetheless, great job! read more

My girlfriend just has facial feminization surgery, one of her first male nurses after she had gotten to room was incredibly unprofessional. He proceeded not to check in on her for HOURS. And when we had asked for help for her to use the bathroom 3 separate occasional times we had to wait 30-45 mins for him to even try to get to her and by the time had came she had already been taken care of. I wish i got his name because it was extremely rude and incredibly unprofessional, i was very shocked. The rest of her female nurses were absolutely incredible and i am so so grateful for them read more

I understand that nurses, physicians and hospital staff all do a very important and necessary job. I understand that it is an exceedingly tough job that sometimes never lets up. But that does not excuse the sheer rudeness, sarcasm and snarky, "I'm better than this" attitude that the nurses and staff have here. Absolutely inexcusable. read more

Based on our last visit here and dealing with Doctor Lee we had a 0 star experience. My mom had severe leg pain and her doctor informed us if it was to get worse to go to the ER. We came in at about 2pm on Fathers Day, waiting room was empty so we were called into the room for assessment. We met with Dr Lu who wanted to know why we came and he told us we would be getting an ultrasound because it sounded like a blood clot but he couldn't be sure until he got an inside view. We went back to a room and went straight over for ultrasound, the technician was really nice and accommodating for her pain and position. He called the new ER doctor Lee to see if he wanted her to go to X-ray or MRI because he seen the orders from our primary but she said no. We went back to the room and waited for the doctor to come see us. Instead of her coming she sent the nurse with discharge paperwork Umm what?! Mom mom was still clearly in tears and pain She finally came to the room and agreed to get an X-ray order in, then she came back to say there were no breaks and that we need to just go home and take Tylenol (which already wasn't working at home that's why we came here) It was already about 9pm so we were just ready to go. Upon discharge Dr Lee had Omar (really nice nurse) educate us on reasons you go to the ER for which was ridiculous and humiliating, trust me we already know why you go to the ER, you would think my mom having horrible leg pain and not being able to move her knee would be a reason but obviously not! So we went back home in more pain than when we came in. A complete waste of time. read more

The Kaiser San Leandro Emergency Room IS a FIVE, 5 ***** star facility! Was logged in, seen and released within 2 hours of showing up. All facets of this facility are well covered from security, administrative, nurses and nurses assistance, the doctor, plus the custodial team was about. They put me in a non emergency area. They don't clean the bed they just put paper on it. The girl that did my EKG said that they never clean the bed. Wow so nasty. read more

Customer service and cleanliness NONEXISTENT! It's a haunted house. come in pain leave SCARED and still in pain! Talked to a supervisor named Tanya Parrish to express concerns. She had a nasty attitude and couldn't have cared less. Pay close attention that her last name is Parrish (because you may perish!) Honestly, stay away. They have zero compassion, no pain management (they won't bother asking until you're being discharged LITERALLY), I had to ask them to switch gloves between patients several times. Filthy! read more

On December 14, 2024, I went to the ER in San Leandro. My 6 year old daughter had a very high fever. I took her in just to see what's going on with her. I got there at 8:15 in the morning. They checked me in, I was in the lobby till 9:30 AM and they finally called my daughter's name and took me in the room. I was waiting another 30 minutes for the doctor to come in. The doctor finally walked in at 10 o'clock. 2hrs+ later. The doctor's name is RODRIGUEZ, RICHARD ZAMARRIPA (M.D.) came and he asked me about my daughter. I said she has very high fever, to which he said to me that "she is the third child this morning with the same symptoms". Completely belittling my child and my problems. He said that he would do a nasal swab on her to check for any viruses, and he advised me to give her medication for fever. I asked the doctor to check my daughter's throat, just to be sure. I didnt feel confident in the initial checks that were done and I wasnt confident in the doctor's concern for my daughter. He surprisingly said, "oh I can do that...". This tells me that there were no plans or deep concern past just the common cold. After that, they still didnt take a swab, they just observed it. They then brought me the paperwork to go home. They sent me home without examining her lungs, ears or anything past that. Absolutely nothing! The doctor barely examined my child. I was not even close to satisfied with the check up done. What a terrible experience ... we came home after 2-3 hours and my daughter started complaining the she has pain again. Her pain brought her to tears and my husband and I didnt sleep all night. I really didn't know what to do. I gave her medication right after that. Throughout the night, she only got worse and her fever got higher. In the early morning, well past midnight, my husband and I decided to go to another ER at the Oakland Children's Hospital to find out whats causing her the fever. Once we got there, we told the doctors that she was seen the morning prior in ER San Leandro but she's having pain pain and the fever is not going down,so they did all exams. A lot of exams that werent initially done! What they needed, they obtained and they found out that my daughter has fluid in her ears . My daughter has an ear infection!! San Leandro ER, KAISER DID NOT CATCH THIS! San Leandro Kaiser did not do their job. I would not recommend ER San Leandro to anyone... I can't believe that I have to go to a different ER to find out what's going on with my child...I am not sure where they got this doctor and staff from but it is unacceptable. Every doctor should be expected and trusted do their routine and the bare minimum of doing a thorough exam. I would rate their staff and my experience a solid 0. read more

The problem with them are nurses inside like Luz & Liza. They mostly disoriented and not very smart they can't handle stress & prioritize patient in need. Wednesday morning, my wife so soak in bed for almost 3 hrs & this on duty Filipina nurse Luz just keep ignoring & neglecting the request to change her beddings. She been in the room will just talk saying she has 4 patients. So, this watcher in uniform at the front door sent me to head nurse Terry & Terry talked to Luz Terry sent Liza who came changing beddings BUT complaining & yelling she's not supposed to be there coz she has other patients! Liza was very rude & disrespectful she sounded like very irritated coz got pulled from other area. Luz & Liza should get more trainings coz other nurses are fine to respond though they hiding their names.They must make improvement here its no longer an ER its a DR delayed room response. read more

Absolutely not! Do not go to this emergency room. You will wait, wait, wait and possibly die before they see you. The staff is on another level of rude, lacking compassion and could care less about your pain. The nurses, security and the whole team are beyond unprofessional. They were chatting and laughing the whole time we waited. Got upset when I called them out. I took my daughter that was in agonizing pain there, she was there for an hour and a half before I lost it and took her out and drove to Fremont where she was seen in less than 15 minutes. This emergency room is a disaster and should NOT even be open. I will be contacting patient services and the hospital director. It should not be like this. Why is Fremont so professional and they are so trashy? All Kaisers should have the same level of service and professionalism. read more

There was a Nurse that attended to me in the ER. His name is Rama S. First impressions of Rama, you could tell he hated his job, he did not want to be there helping others. I came in with a deep cut on my hand. It was so deep that my fat was bulging out of my skin. It would not stop bleeding, even after hours of pressure and trying to close the wound. Rama sprayed the opening with what appeared to be alcohol and attempted to rub the open wound with gauze. Naturally I pulled back and yelled out "shit" due to the pain. Rama immediately stopped and told the Doctor was being irate and that he couldn't clean my wound. Doctor Park told Rama to clean my hand under the sink with water instead. As we were walking to the sink, Rama told me that I had to watch my language moving forward. I apologized and told him that it hurt too much to open the wound and rub it with cotton. I asked him if we could numb my hand first and then clean it out. Rama stated that he is not a Doctor, only the Doctor could numb my hand and that we would need to ask Doctor Park first. Rama continued to walk down the hall towards the sink, which was away from the Doctor. I asked Rama, "How are we supposed to ask the Doctor to numb my hand first, if we are walking away from him?" Rama stated we were just going to clean the cut under the sink and he continued to walk further away from Doctor Park. We get to the sink and start to wash my hand. He asked me to open my hand so he can wash out the inside of the cut. I told him that it was going to hurt too much. As I opened my hand he tried to open the cut under the running water and I jerked my hand in pain (I did not swear or say anything out loud). Rama sighed and immediately turned off the water and said, "Never mind we are just going to go back". Rama expected a Human to show zero reaction while opening a deep wound? The Doctor then numbed my hand and stitched me up. During the stitching, I was bleeding rather heavily and pools of blood gathered on my palm and dripped to the back of my hand. Doctor Park told Rama to clean my hand and dress the wound. Rama came in and wiped off some areas of blood, but there was so much blood that I asked him if we could rinse it off in the sink. Rama's exact reply to me, "Oh now you're going let me put your hand under the sink?"... First off, my hand is now numb and I cannot feel anything. Second off, the wound is stitched up and I highly doubt you are going to open up the wound and try rubbing the inside with gauze. His comment was ridiculous and uncalled for. Rama then said he was just going to clean my hand some and that I could do the rest at home by myself. Rama then dressed my hand and afterward, told me that I can clean around the dressing, but I cannot clean under it. I have pictures of everything, my hand was wrapped nearly 80%. How was I supposed to clean all the dried up blood when 80% of my hand was covered? Rama then stated that I need to elevate my hand above my heart to reduce swelling. I then asked him, "How long do I need to keep my hand up?" Rama replied with, "Until you take the stitches out". I thought to myself that 2 weeks holding my hand up was a long time and most likely difficult to do. When I went home I googled how long I should keep my hand elevated for and my research showed 3-5 days. Rama was a complete ass to me from start to finish and gave me false information about my recovery. He probably jeopardized my wound becoming infected by not cleaning all the dried blood after the stitching. read more

7 days after i had my "accident". my wheels was ready to roll. called Kaiser to schedule an appointment with my physician to check my "damages". ER was adamant i go immediately. i told them i had to get my wheels that i no friends, relatives that could drive me. essentially true since my so doesn't want to drive me anywheres while the reverse is expected. exam showed no rib damage, just brusing. everything went expectedexcept for "blacking out" incident when i got home...(this seems this most logical explanation). cost of exam was reasonable. read more

WORST POSSIBLE PLACE TO BE. Security guards are high and smell like marijuana and you can bypass security by letting outsiders in the side door. You couldn't pay me to be a kaiser patient. They took my mother back, refusing me access so she is without a patient advocate. read more

I was brought to the emergency department on Friday February 3, 2023 in excruciating pain. After further testing, I was diagnosed with kidney stones. The urologist explained that I needed a urethral stent procedure, he Informed my family that it needed to be done to avoid the infection to get into my bloodstream, as that can be threatening due to my age. They removed the liquids through my iv as they were preparing for the procedure to begin at around noon. The procedure kept getting put back . My family checked in again around 3pm, and the nurse informed us that it would happen at 5pm. At 6pm my family went back to check and still no answers as to when the procedure would take place. I was then admitted to the hospital still waiting on the procedure at 9:20pm. We waited 2 hours to get moved to my room, once we got there we noticed the room was not clean. There was health hazards of used medical instruments and used mouthwash from the previous patient. In addition, all of his medical paperwork was left in the room violating HIPPA. Once settled in, the procedure didn't take place until the following night 2/4/23 at 8:30pm. Please make note that this entire time I didn't receive food, water or any liquids through my iv, as they kept saying I was next for the procedure. This whole time I was given morphine for the pain, however I was still in pain. Once the procedure was finally completed I was given water and a box of juice and they never offered food. The last time I had ate food was at my house on Thursday 2/2/23 at 8pm. Following my procedure, the Nurses did not take my breakfast order and my family had to bring me breakfast even though the surgeon approved/cleared me to eat. I wasn't given food until Sunday at noon. They reviewed my blood work , my WBC kept increasing even on antibiotics. This was due to them delaying my procedure. The level of care at the San Leandro facility is low grade. It's completely unacceptable how they treat their patients. The staff are overworked and understaffed causing medical issues to their patients. I'm giving them 1 star bc I can't give zero. read more

Spoke to a extremely unprofessional lady by the name of Joann at the vital statistics office, EXTREMELY RUDE. First she couldn't hear me but I was able to hear her well. She hung up and called back.. I told her I needed a copy of a proof of birth for my child since I need to get her birth certificate done. She told me we don't do birth certificate at Kaiser you need to go to the office, I told her I KNOW THAT. I need a copy of a proof from Kaiser that says I gave birth because it's needed for birth certificate application online. Something from the hospital. She said you got the paper when you got discharged, I told her I couldn't find it. Than she goes give me the date of birth, I said Nov 10, 2019, she goes give me the exact date properly so I could pull out the information. How is Nov 10, 2019 not a "correct date " i than said 11/10/2019 and she was able to than pull up the information. First of all how do people like this get hired at Kaiser, they think the hospital belongs to them and they can talk to anyone how they like. Than she says you can come to pick it up from the hospital, I asked when will it be available, she goes you can come anytime you like. Gave me information on where to pick it from while her tone had all the attitude. KAISER PLEASE HIRE PEOPLE WHO ARE THERE TO ASSIST, not people who think they are too good for this job. read more

Tbh, I don't even know what the nurses are doing in there? Where the doctors even on site? Who knows...all I know is that I was nearly dying by the time decided to call me. Took partner here tonight with Severe pain in chest/stomach area. He's 71 yrs old. They would not let me stay with him at the ER waiting room even though he was in pain. He just now texted me that they finally took him back to the ER after about a 2 hour wait in the waiting room. I am shocked how badly this hospital has gotten in the 9 years since it opened. Absolutely NOT how a hospital or any medical facility should be operating and certainly not in 2023. We are NOT a third world country. read more

I went to Kaiser ER with which I thought was stroke symptoms on July 22nd. Actually, I was told to go to the ER by a doctor who is not my pcp(my dr was not available). I get to the hospital, the Dr starts asking questions he believes it's migraines not a stroke. He tells the nurse to start an IV and to give me Tylenol, Benadrly, and Reglan. Once the nurse gives me Reglan that was it, I could not sit still, my body got ice cold,I thought I was losing my mind!! I called the nurse she said I was having a side effect( no really?you think so?) She gives me more Benadryl and this time Ativan. I go for an MRI, I'm claustrophobic I couldn't go in the machine, so I was given more Benadryl and Ativan !! That knocked me out. All I remember after that was a nurse waking me up telling me I was ready to go home. Huh? The Dr didn't even come back to tell me what he found if any. The next day (July 23rd) I'm at home ,having I'm guessing withdrawals from all the medication I was given ,I don't know what is happening to me all I know is I'm nervous, jittery, nauseous, I'm feeling like I'm going to pass out then around 7pm I had a panic attack says the paramedics and firemen. I go back to the ER . I was given Benadryl and Zofran and told to breath. While there alone in the room I had another "panic attack " that lasted what felt like forever. The nurse comes in sees me crying, shaking and trying to breath like they told me to ,which does not work!! Anyway, the nurse comes back with Ativan, I refused to take it, so I was sent home. This hospital wants to drug you up and make you believe you are mental. I went in with a bad headache and numbness tingling on my right arm and leg. I came out worse than how I came in. read more

this is my worst visit ever! i went to emergency because i was and still having a chest pain. i came 9pm. they did my ekg and after that i was asked by the nurse what is going on. i forgot her name but she was so rude!!!! I waited in line to be called and I was assisted by other staff. She placed me in a room where the doctor is suppose to be checking with me. We were three in the room and all of us asked to go out and be transferred to other room because the doctors are shifting shift. Come on i've been waiting for 4 hours and when I asked for an update, the staff asked me to wait outside of waiting area. Really Kaiser? I went to emergency because I am in pain and I was about to die before you assist me. I walked out at 1:00am and still nobody came to help me. My wife was diagnosed with Covid-19 and she start having bad headache and her nose start bleeding her legs was full of red dots her blood pressure was high and i took her to káiser emergency in San Leandro ca after they got her info she waited for almost four hour and nobody came to check her so she decided to go home . in the morning she called the kaiser to talk to the nurse after an hour waiting on the phone finally she was able to talk to the nurse and explain her condition the nurse told her that there is a chance for stroke so go back to the emergency and that's what we did I dropped her off around 12 noon . no one came to help her again after three hours she start calling for help that her headache is so bad please if you don't have any bed available at least give me some medication for my blood pressure and pain that's when the doctor on duty came and told her that we don't have any bed available either you have to wait for another two to three hours or go anywhere you want my wife ask for mediación for her headache and doctor said that I can't do that the doctor left the room and snap the door behind her . That when she called me to go and pick her up and that's what I did . for last thirty years we are paying every month to have coverage for when we need it and this is the way they treat us is this what we deserve ? read more

I went into Kaiser and San Leandro with chest pain they found out that it was a heart attack since they're not specialize in heart attack and the one that I went to they send me to Saint Rose Saint Rose said to them they need to do an operation on me because I have multiple clogged on my Henri and when they were sending me back Kaiser said that I cancel my insurance from them while I was in a bad in tears not knowing what to do when I've been a member of Kaiser for years I pay my bill on time and that's true, California don't get me wrong I do love Kaiser the nurses and the doctors are fantastic there but the staff are ridiculous nobody wants somebody that needs an operation but Washington Hospital healthcare took me in with no question I'm here trying to figure out how to pay it and they told me don't worry Kaiser threw me away like a piece of garbage I will never forgive Kaiser Hospital they threw me like a garbage out read more

My son Ayden broke his wrist at school and the ER crew from check-in until my son got his splint on was AMAZING!!!! Literally the fastest checkin ! & everyone was so kind and caring !
