I am so glad that I just so happen to look left when I was stuck at the PCH light because I found Michaela! She's absolutely fantastic. Not only did she give me the cut I asked for, but the moment she did the first bit, it made me so happy because it looked great already! She is very talented. The salon itself is so nice and inviting, and they are very welcoming of everyone. You can book online which makes it really easy. I started coming to Sutra Salon a few years back, because my stylist took a space there. This review is for both the salon, and my stylist, Gilberto. 1) The salon- Every time I walk in the energy is so positive. The lights are bright and inviting. The music playing; everything from 1980's Debbie Gibson, to 2025 Lady Gaga, it's always an energizing mix. Whatever stylists may be in that day, (they all work by appt) are inviting even with me, a non-client. Sutra is consistently clean and very comfortable. There is pride in all the stylists that have taken up space, and I love this! Honestly, everyone seems pretty happy to be working there. 2) My stylist, Gilberto- He's amazing! Gilberto has been a licensed cosmetologist for a long while. He keeps up on trends, color, and cuts. He is a straight shooter when talking hair, and won't mix words. He is a true professional; so kind in his recommendations, knowledgeable, and is amazing with color correction! I've also had him give me a blowout a time or two for special occasions, and as always, they look fantastic. Gilberto's pricing is on par, he will take his time with whatever you want done, and is flexible on scheduling where he can be. He is one of the best stylists I've ever had. I trust him 100%, and will follow him anywhere. If you're looking for a new stylist, definitely call Sutra Salon. So glad I found Shannon at Sutra Salon! After several disappointing hair appointments at other salons -- wrong color, unexpected chops, and stylists who just didn't listen -- I was honestly hesitant to try someone new. But Shannon completely changed that. She added extensions that blended naturally with my hair, bringing back the length I'd lost and softening the harsh color with a more natural mix. She explained the different types of extensions, how they're applied, and how to take care of them, which made the whole process feel easy and stress-free. My granddaughter was allowed to get her hair done as a reward for good grades. She was so excited! When she came home, she was very disappointed. You could only see very slight glimmers of color. Her stylist had told her the "sun would lighten it." Antonio, of Sutra Salon to the rescue! I sent him the photos of her hair and what she wanted and he said he could help. We had to wait a little while for an appointment, but was it ever worth it! Her hair is gorgeous and exactly how she wanted it to look. He did a spectacular job. Anyone who knows anything about girls on the cusp of being a teen knows they can have terrible self esteem and be incredibly self conscious. My granddaughter walked out of that salon with a huge smile on her face and her head held high. Seeing her reaction was priceless! Thank you, Antonio! You did a really good thing there!! An acquaintance of mine recommended me this salon since I wanted a lightening/coloring service. I naturally have thick 2C/3A hair and my inspiration was bright merlot with more of a purple hue on only the very tips of my hair (4 inches max from my ends) When I called to make an appointment, I described the color I wanted and even suggested coming in to show the color but they assured me that they had the color. I show up to the appointment and they didn't have anything close so I decided to go with redken shades eq 5RV. My stylist was Jackie. From a stylist to another, you need to listen to what the client is telling you, be observant of the consultation. She gave me a dimensional foilyage, alternating teasing and highlights. Her teasing wasn't even teasing, you saw three different knots all spaced out on one section of hair. She started lighting my hair at the nape and I felt/could see her putting bleach about 1 inch away from my scalp and I told her at the moment, it's only the tips and she told me it was. Like I'm not stupid, own up to it and wash it out. With this look, when I put my hair in a ponytail tail, I didn't want to see any color on the base of my scalp which was done, except the back of my head where she lightened really close to the scalp, you see streaks of color. (Photos are included). My hair is about 26 inches long with layers so I understand some strands of color will be higher up on the head but with some of the strands, it almost to my scalp and I repeat, when I specifically asked for the tips. We go to the shampoo bowl to wash out the lightener and put on the toner. As she puts on the toner, one of her colleagues asks her what mixture she used. I hear 5RV and ?RR. I was pissed, I specifically told her I wanted more of a purple hue but I was fine with RV so why would she add RR to the mixture. My back was drenched. We go back to her seat and she was going to round up my hair but I asked for diffusing instead. She claimed how much she loves diffusing but she didn't even own a diffuser...she borrowed from one of her colleagues and all she did was shake the blow dryer into my scalp leaving my hair frizzy and still wet. I didn't want to pay for the service at all but she put her time so I did. The only thing I appreciated was that she didn't fry my curls. We searched on yelp for a good colorist, because she didn't want any unnecessary damage done to her hair. Sutra Salon had solid reviews. We made an appointment with Shannon and my daughter took pictures of what she liked and didn't like. Shannon was really easy to talk to and together they came up with a solid plan. Elias gave me a haircut and I highly recommend him. After many years, I decided to grow hair. I was very unclear what I wanted, but Elias has a sixth sense to read what you are looking for. He is very patient and adept at keeping you comfortable. He used a combination of shears and cissors. The cut came out really well. I think the real test of a cut is how it looks after some growth, my hair has not been better (and not unruly) after two months form the cut. On a side note, he also does a lot of community service work with pro bono haircuts for homeless. I really enjoyed chatting with him about his travel adventures and community service work. I walked in off the street to set an appointment and knew they were the right place to be. Cool atmosphere, friendly staff, good music, etc. They were able to book me in the very next day for an appointment with Elias. I adore Liz! She is absolutely the best! She has been doing my hair for years. The few times I've had to go elsewhere, I have immediately regretted it. I'm a natural redhead, but my hair has...um..."ashed out" as I've gotten older. She is one of the few people who really understands the natural tones and highlights of red hair. Everywhere else I've gone in recent years has left my hair tinty. I even had one girl who gave me wine colored hair. It's pretty in the bottle or glass, but definitely not on my head. Liz also does great cuts! My hair has been both short and long with her, and it always looks stylish and beautiful. It was my first time coming to this salon and my experience was amazing. Jozef was my hairstylist and he knew exactly what to do the moment that I sat down. I was pretty traumatized the last time I went to a salon because they did a horrible job on my hair. So I came here to see if they would be able to fix it and he did not disappoint.
