I needed a hair cut and my normal place was booked. I found this place on Yelp, and I was able to get an appointment with Max Toba. He was super friendly, and I liked the way he cut my hair. I usually don't like people cutting my (straight) bangs because they would cut too much and I look like a little kid. However, Max did a great job on my bangs. When I called to make an appointment, Max told me he was charging $50, but when I was paying, he charged me $55. It's only $5, which isn't a big deal, but it's the principle! read more

Finally was able to go in for a change. Due to the pandemic I was not able to go, salons kept getting closed. It is my first time getting my hair done at this salon. I have been following Maggie on IG for some time, a few friends on my IG get their hair done by her. Let me tell you I went in this past weekend and I still cant get over how beautiful my hair came out. Maggie is amazing and honest if your hair cannot go through certain chemicals she will let you know. I have been following Maggie for 4 years now and she is absolutely amazing! I have gotten previous work done by other stylist and my hair never EVER came out the way I liked it until Maggie! My stylist Maggie recently moved here from another salon in the area. My bad, I haven't seen her in 6 months and my color and cut came out amazing (see photo). After a majorly stressful week at the office, her assistant gave me the most relaxing scalp massage. The space is calm and quiet compared to her former location at the mall and this location is so much easier to get to because you can park right out front. I was in need of a good hair stylist and colorist, and had been naughtily and lazily cutting my own hair and coloring it for a few years now. I know, right? What a dunce. Well, my grays are about half my hair now, and being dark-haired, I had to keep up with those awful grays every 6-8 weeks, and the home coloring had become a nightmare - none of the store-bought colors looked nice, my hair was over-saturated so the ends were a lot darker than the roots, I didn't do a good job so the color was patchy, and on and on. So I looked online and decided to try a place nearby. I called Encore and talked to the owner Marliese, who suggested I see J.J. J.J. questioned me thoroughly about my needs and issues before getting down to business. I showed her a couple of photos of the cut I wanted. She cut, colored my gray and highlighted my hair - explaining and discussing each step with me. We discussed a long-term plan also, as I am getting too gray and annoyed to keep my hair looking good myself. After the cut and color, she gave me a fantastic blow-out. One reason I have not been to a salon for awhile is that I am picky, and also I don't really like sitting in a salon for hours. J.J. is very quick and efficient. She's very experienced, so she knows what she's doing and gets it done. I've had stylists in the past take sooooo long to do anything. (You know the type - they piece out each little section and eyeball it for seconds and then cut really slowly. Gahhh, I just don't have patience or time for that.) Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 27/100 My half straight/half wavy hair led to bad haircuts for most of my life, until I met Max. I've followed him to 3 salons over the past 15+ years. I used to search for photos and spend so much time trying to explain to hair stylists what kind of cut I want. I don't have to do that with Max. I just tell him the general length and style and he does his thing. The best part is he's fast and also the way he cuts allows my hair to grow out beautifully so I don't have to come often. It has something to do with how he layers. He's also amazing at styling hair and hair color. The color is more natural and doesn't start changing colors with sun exposure. The one time I cheated on Max, I paid a fortune and my hair was a disaster. It took 8 months and two cuts with Max to fix it. Now, no matter how far from his salon I move, I always make time to see him. My sisters come here and so do some of my friends now too. Went to Maggie and my hair got so damaged! After about a week my hair started to feel like if gum got stuck on it. (I don't even use heat, i stick to rollers) Pictures look nice on insta because she puts you under a light that makes the colors look nicer. She's super nice but honestly didn't do a good job. I'm so surprised that she has such great reviews because my hair literally got so damaged because of her work. I've been having my hair cut and colored by Alison Kanjo for some years now and feel so remiss in waiting this long to write a review. Let me echo what others have said: Alison is an artist when it comes to hair!! She is attentive, really listens to what you are asking, and honest and expert in letting you know what will and will not work with your hair type, face shape, etc. And her skill at hair color is better than any I've experienced at several local upscale salons I patronized for years. Don't misunderstand: Alison and Encore cater to a mostly monied clientele, but she is such a delight to just "hang out" with for the few hours you are having your hair done, and so without pretension, that you feel like you have just spent a couple hours chatting with a best friend who just happens to be a genius in the art of hair! I have never left Alison's chair without feeling as though I should have some place special to go that night because my hair looked so good! And Belinda, Alison's assistant, and a stylist herself, is equally as charming and helpful. She did a beautiful job on my daughter's hair extensions and color correction. My daughter is anxious for her husband to be transferred back home, to Southern California, so she can start seeing Belinda on a regular basis. I didnt even need to show him a picture he just knew exactly what I needed. What I got done was difficult, took precision and alot of time. He stayed after 2 hours to finish my hair. The entire staff on Sunday July 21st 2019 (I say the date because I didnt catch the other two names) was amazing. They were polite and very helpful to each other and it was just a very pleasant experience not to mention the total cost amount was way less than expected. I can't express in words how talented Maggie is, but I'll try. I was first referred to her by my friend who had naturally brown hair and was able to get it to a beautiful shade of blonde, in only a few sessions, thanks to Maggie. The second I got her number I sent her a text and arranged an appointment (by the way I love how she takes her appointments by text message, so you don't have to call and then later find out that they don't see your appointment, etc.). I have extremely thick hair and normally get charged over $200, so I was pleasantly surprised when it was only $150 (plus tip and I had her add Olaplaex for only $30 more, which I highly recommend for going any shade of blonde). She did an amazing job of doing Baylage on my hair and blended it perfectly. I had been to several other people before and their work did not compare to the quality she provided. She has a quickly expanding clientele, so when I went to make another appointment it was a two week waiting period. I decide to take a chance on someone else, which was a huge mistake! It wasn't horrible, but it was no where near the work she does! I ended up having to make an appointment with Maggie, so the colors would appear blended and less brassy (even if I had to wait a month I would have). She did an absolutely perfect job of taking out the brassiness and made the colors blend so it didn't look like grown out highlights (like it did when I walked in). She said I was her 4th baylage/ombré appointment that day, which explains how she dyes hair so quickly and accurately! I wouldn't recommend going to anyone else if you want quality work for a reasonable price! Thank you so much Maggie. I have come to this salon twice, and both times I had services provided by Tracy. The first time I needed a hi light job, and the second time this past Thursday I just needed a haircut. I have found Tracy's haircut to be perfection for my hair. I had the same style for many years, and found that Tracy's suggestions to a bit of updating were very helpful. My daughter will be trying the salon out as well in a few weeks. It is very nice. Coffee, tea, or water are offered. The experience is a nice one Update 09/17 Unfortunately, when I got lowlights in the past few weeks, my experience here did not work out. There were not enough hilights and the darkness of the lowlights was a bit overwhelming for me. The haircut was a nice one, but I don't feel like I was treated very nicely as a customer. I just think there wasn't truly enough time to do what really needed to be done when I returned to the salon. I was hurt by the treatment, but just figure sometimes people are more interested in making money than actually working with the customer. Sad things couldn't have been better, but definitely need someone who is respectful to deal with in the future. read more
