I have always ejoyed buying my supplies from Sutherlands. I have had great customer service from Gilbert and Todd. I recently went in to but 10 in paving bricks for a new flowered. I asked for help loading them and Gilbert said sure and called a young man to help me Gilbert said to pay for how many I needed and this young man would load them on a cart and then into my pickup. The store manager,David Berry, called me to his register and was immediately rude and offensive because I asked for help in loading the bricks. I told him I was 100% disabled and he told me he didn't care and I could load them myself. This man has the customer service skills as a badger with a hang nail. I will never darken their doors again as long as he is the manager.Beware when and God help you if you have to deal with this man Pitiful pitiful service for such a great company. dt read more

I hate that i have 2 put a star to write a review... Do NOT SHOP At this place... We experienced a horrible situation & ended up losing $200 For a item tgey sold us & refused to refund ir exchange it... It was a weed eater Sthl product & due 2 their sales person the item lasted less then 1hour & NEVER turned back on we bought it Saturday the day before Easter Sunday & Monday was told told there would be no refunds.. Or replacement... I had 2 call the manufacturer 2 get any help... Please unless you got money 2 lose Do Not Shop THERE.... No customer service or gratitude 4 paying customers either...... We've used Southerlands for a few things, mainly decorative backyard items (wind chimes, pillow cushions, etc). Sutherlands, aside from Ace Hardware, is the only hardware and home improvement store in our town. Both Sutherlands and Ace have horrible customer service and have staff that is illiterate. We purchased an entire pallet of monkey grass from them and upon getting it home and taking them out of their containers, we noticed the entire root system was dried out and crunchy. I called and spoke to the lady in charge of the plant department and she said that Lily Turf/ Money grass is very hardy and to plant and give it about a month or so and see if it takes root. She said she didn't have any other monkey grass but to call back if it didn't take root and shed get us more. Well it all started dying, I called back, And to my surprise there is no refunds or discounts for plants unless it's brought back the next day. We spent a lot of money on sick plants and they died. They didn't even try to help. Home Depot and Lowes as well as local nursery's have given tips on plant health as well as tell you to bring them back if they die within a certain timeframe. read more

Place is a junk heap and nothing is priced. You have to find someone to ask them how much something is. After finding someone, they don't know. The garden center is a dumpster fire as well. Nothing priced, plants dying and dead because of a lack of water. All this while there are three or four people up at the register texting and talking on the phone. As other reviewers have said, employees are totally not helpful. They are not familiar with any of the products. You can ask whatever you want, like "Is this a garden hose?" answer: "Sorry, I don't know". Management is zero. I don't know how the heck they hire management. They actually make it a point not to help you. I try to buy a couple of blue point junipers since April, they would only have to make one phone call to the nursery, the guy just shrugs his shoulder and says "Sorry, I don't know". read more

They have a great selection of products, including handmade furniture. They also tend to have specials going on all the time, good for stocking stuffers. I like that they carry pet products as well, I'm not aware of other home improvement stores that do that, at least not to the level Sutherlands does. read more

Great hardware store, helpful staff & good selection.

Used to love this place but has really gone downhill. Today my daughter went in to buy over $200. worth of merchandise. Had multiple photo IDs, and credit cards, but assistant manager - Gilbert gave her a big argument about not looking like her ID, even after he looked over all her identification and credit cards and sent her in line to pay. Seriously who does in a home improvement store? (Her hair was up, and no makeup and in her ID it's down with makeup) Not only did he argue with her about it three times, but asked another employee to verify that she didn't look like it AS THEY WAS SELLING HER THE MERCHANDISE!!! (He was standing behind the cashier as she was checking her out) Not sure what the issue was but he just lost a customer of 12+ years that has bought literally thousands of dollars of merchandise there, including a garage package! Too many home improvement stores around to put up with attitude. For what it's worth - I've bought thousands of dollars of stuff at one time and never been asked for an ID! read more

We purchased a Frigidaire refrigerator on Sunday, February 17, 2013. We SPECIFICALLY asked if they would hook up the water line for the ice maker and water dispenser. They young lady at the counter told us that they would try to get it as close to where we wanted it as possible, but they could not hook it up for us. When the delivery guy brought the frig we were informed that they are not insured to go into our home and they would unload it in the garage. So, we were charged $65 for dumping the frig in my garage. Since we are not in that line of work, we dented the door on the frig trying to get it in our house. I called the local manager, David, to let him know the situation and that they should better train their sales people to make sure that they knew what they were talking about. He became very rude, saying that the girl had been their long enough to know and that my wife must not have asked that specific question. I manage an automotive service center and know what customer service is all about. To take the attitude that it must have been the dumb customer and not offer to re-train the employee and apologize for the problem and the misunderstanding tells me ALL that I need to know about Sutherlands. I can tell you that after this experience, I WILL NEVER darken the door of another Sutherlands since this is the type manager and attitudes they have running their stores. I am VERY, VERY disappointed in my experience and it completely undoes any value added in getting a good deal. read more

My husband & I were very disappointed in our experience at Sutherland's. We we charmed, at first, by the small business vibe, but it turns out that customer service falls severely short. They do not keep employees trained in their departments, so by all means, find something at a cheaper price, but don't expect to be able to ask a question. We were assured that we would receive a call when our order arrived and to check back in a week or so. We went in today - 10 days later - just to check in because we hadn't been called yet. Our order was "lost" and the "manager" David is simply the poorest excuse of a manager I've come across in quite a while. When asked why our order was lost, he said there was "nothing he could do about that, soooo what do I want" him to do about it? He then engaged in what I am sure he feels was an intimidating staring contest. He just stared at me! He broke eye contact first (I win!) to advise me that I should "walk a mile in his shoes." I gladly agreed to do that if he would walk a mile in mine in return! Overall a ridiculous experience and I paid $40 more for a similar product elsewhere, but was treated with respect and consideration while doing it. read more
