I like the products, but would rather have a refund for a product, instead of store credit.

My experience with their no refund policy (not disclosed until I attempted to make a return) at Holland Gardens includes refusal to offer store credit or refund if they sell you a defective product that doesn't work. I purchased a brand new set of custom lights with a total price tag of $48.95. There were 4 sockets in the set that would not light up. The ONLY solution they would discuss is splicing new sockets into the strand to replace the nonfunctional ones. I did not want to keep a set of defective lights that required alteration to make them work before I ever had a chance to use them. Why would I risk throwing good money after bad on a set of lights that didn't work to begin with? I declined to have them repaired and requested a refund or credit instead. This is when I was told of the no returns or refunds policy. I don't think my case was unique. As soon as I approached the counter, the clerk grabbed an extension cord she had right beside her and very matter-of-factly plugged in my lights to assess my complaint. She did it as if she had done the same thing many times before. Her response was prompt, dictated, and well-practiced. The counter clerk and management on duty dug heels in refusing to make good on the defective product they sold me only 1 week earlier...no refund or credit. They have a good supply of a plants if you want a one stop shop, but they will charge more than Lowe's or Home Depot. Some might say that it's because they are a local business, but even their neighbor Home Base has a better price on plants. Though they really lack in customer service. I've been there a handful of times and they care more about me not parking my car near the front to load plants than about helping me find what I'm looking for. Weather they are busy or not, it doesn't seem to make a difference in their customer service. Almost as if it's a bother to be there in the first place. read more

I've been going to Holland Gardens and buying things for years. I went today to get some Christmas light shingle tabs as we were in the middle of putting our lights up and we had several that needed to be replaced. I called ahead of time to make sure they had them before I went all the way across town to get them. They told me on the phone they closed at 5:30 (it was Sunday) but they did have them. I got there at 5:20. The doors were already locked, but I could see people inside and so I waited outside. Finally at 5:25, a lady that worked there came to the door and unlocked it and asked if she could help me. I told her I had called a little after 5:00 to come purchase some shingle tabs. She said they were closed. I told her the lady on the phone said they closed at 5:30. She said they go by their time clock when they close. I looked at my watch and it said 5:25.... she saw my watch when I held it up to check the time and then said, well there are people still here so you can come in. I went in, got the tabs and checked out. When I was checking out, the lady checking me out asked the lady that had been rude to me if there were any more shoppers still in the store. She said there were and the lady asked her are they even buying anything? I'm stocked a local store would act this way to all customers that are there at closing. I would expect this from a large franchise store. They clearly didn't want their customers at their store at closing time, but aren't those the customers that keep local stores up and running? The only employee that was helpful and kind was an older man working by the house lights. He helped me find what I needed and even offered to get me a basket to put them in as I was carrying my newborn baby in a carrier in one hand and carrying the tabs in the other. read more

Great selection of anything/everything Christmas but understand that anything you buy is final- if you want to return anything, the only option you're given is store credit - I haven't been in this store in over 30 yrs and now I have to go back and try to find something to by for $50. Great marketing tactic making sure you never issue a refund so all dollars stay in your bank account but lousy customer service option. I'll only shop here one more time to get my $50 back read more

I visited this store to start my vegetable garden this spring. The customer service and selection surpassed my expectations and the quality of gardening stores. Holland Gardens will now be my go-to store! I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for gardening supplies, as long as they aren't searching during the Christmas season! read more

Staff is super rude all the time! I want to love this store, but their arrogant staff keeps me from buying anything. Yes, they have a large selection of cool stuff, but that does not make up for their attitude. I live in Fort Worth my parents live in Lubbock. At Christmas time we always go to see the amazing trees that are decorated to the max!! It's amazing the love that goes into your Christmas trees!! You should be on TV every day during the season. Hope you are. We )have given many gift cards for my parents, Father's Day just this week. Dad was so happy with his purchase. Great place to get what ever you need for nursery supplies. Wayne Holland has the prettiest Red Crape Myrtles in Lubbock. Everyone at Holland Gardens have always bent over backwards to help us with any plants, feeding Supplies, fertilizers or anything we have ever needed. read more

I bought a couple Dept 56 pieces from them via phone. One was on sale 40% off and the other full price, they charged me full price for one, lied to me saying it was for both pieces then shipping costs was $150. The one piece ended up costing me $270 and they wont return emails and never sent me a receipt for anything. Such a shady way to run a business. read more

If you are looking for Christmas decor you can't go wrong with Holland Gardens. They have everything you could possible want, Christmas trees, lights, ornaments, etc... The people working were very helpful but everything seem to be expensive. I think you could find things cheaper if you are willing to take the time to look elsewhere. I also found out they will set up all your christmas decorations for you and take them down, for a price of course. read more

A visit to Holland Gardens has been a family tradition during the holidays for years. We would take our grand kids to look at all the beautifully decorated trees and purchase an ornament for each of them and a new one for our tree. Not sure what has happened to the store, but we definitely have taken it off of our list. Every single person we encountered that worked there was rude and had an awful attitude. The store looked and felt dirty and tired. There wasn't much by way of new stock, everything they had looked like it had been dug out of a box and slapped together without much care or thought. Don't know if they have changed management or what happened but It was definitely a far different experience from years past. Can't blame everything on COVID. Rudeness and care come through a mask loud and clear. We left without purchasing a thing. read more

I've visited Holland Gardens a few times since I arrived in Lubbock in 2012. They have been mentioned as somewhere I could find items I have asked coworkers about. I actually have purchased a few items there, even though I have left empty handed more often as their selection was not as complete as it had been described. My REAL complaint though is that every time I have gone pretty much every employee has greeted me as if they smelled something bad. I have detected particular disdain and dismissive behavior from the counter personnel. From speaking to people around town they seem to be well thought of, just hasn't been MY experience. read more

Closes the store 5 minutes early and turned us away along with 6 other customers. If you are going to say your open until 1 on Christmas Eve than stay open for your customers. This is a retail business that requires you to work on days as such to please customers. I did it for 10 years and understand, but your manager couldn't have been more rude or careless about the principle at hand. Poorly handled, little did he know he lost a major customer of many decades. I will be spreading the word of his careless lack of leadership and service. read more
