Based on the gushing reviews here, on trip advisor, and the lonely planet book, however, we were expecting a more gourmet and inventive breakfast. We got eggs, sausage, potatoes, fruit. Tell me again why that's such a noteworthy menu? It stays light in Alaska till late in summer, and we were in need of some additional window coverings to block out the light where the blinds gapped in many places, plus a fan bc it was a warm evening. When we realized this, we felt it was too late to text the owner, and since we saw not a soul on the property that day, we had no idea where to go to ask. We slept badly all night bc we were too warm (the one night in Alaska when it's was warm, I guess!) We paid 200.00 for one night and we were not at all impressed or satisfied. There are many places to stay in Anchorage that cost less or more than this; with such a selection, 11th Ave. B&B did not deliver the expected level of service we had anticipated for the price.

We stayed at 8 different bed and breakfast places during our trip touring Alaska and they were the best hosts! There is an understandable reason that Alaska House of Jade is #1 on Trip Advisor. The booking process was a breeze as it was facilitated by our travel agent Juxia from Homer. We stayed in two different rooms during our stay and both were great. Private bathrooms were a wonderful thing to have as not all B&B's have that and you have the daily morning fight for the bathroom. It is hard to get a feel of a B&B just from the pictures and reviews but after spending some time here I can highly recommend staying with Krista and Zack. They are perfect hosts and a wealth of information for your trip to Alaska. As this is yelp I will also mention the delicious food we had as well. On the first night we checked in late because our flight didn't arrive until past midnight but Krista had cookies out for us on the kitchen counter. Breakfast the first morning was sourdough pancakes, fresh fruit, yogurt, homemade granola, bacon, and delicious eggs! The second morning we got delicious homemade cinnamon buns with eggs and sausage. Overall the best breakfasts and hosts from our trip to Alaska. Pro tip: book early as they fill up quick

We stayed 3 nites at the beginning of our trip and our final nite. We ended up having our flight departure time changed from 4 pm to 11:30 p.m....but we still had to turn in our rental car early.....Krista was wonderful & invited us to hang out at the house, fed us dinner & Zack took us to the airport, it was like we were hanging out with family. The house is beautiful, breakfast it ridiculously tasty, and everything is clean & well appointed. House of Jade is your home away from home, you will not want to leave!

No one was there yet, so we waited outside until 4 o'clock. When the designated two-hour checkin time arrived, we were greeted by the owners who were lovely and accommodating. Our room was as expected, though we felt a bit like we were visiting our grandparents' home. (No shoes allowed, and the home was eerily quiet.) We had hoped to relax and unwind in our room, but we discovered that our room did not have cable, only a DVD player. I believe some rooms have cable, but ours did not. There was a common area with cable and we were able to utilize it. It wasn't the same as relaxing in our own private space, but it worked for the one night we were there. Breakfast in the morning was family style, which was unexpected for us. The meal was great, the hosts were outstanding, and the company turned out to be exceptional. We actually stayed beyond the breakfast hours, as we were having a great conversation with another couple visiting the area. So, overall it was a great stay. The only downgrades are because we couldn't access our room ten minutes early, and because we didn't have cable in our room.

We walked those routes many times during our stay. It was also very conveniently located within walking distance of the Alaska Rail station. It is not located near any grocery stores, however, so we did a big Costco shop shortly after our arrival in Anchorage. Our room was on the top floor and we had a great view through the living room window. The bedroom has plenty of closet space as well as a comfortable queen sized bed and ceiling fan. The bathroom is small with no bathtub, but has an awesome rain shower. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Because we stayed as long as we did, we did not receive the bagged breakfast offered to other guests. We were asked what we would like and were given fruit, bread, eggs, yogurt, butter, bacon, bananas, apples, oranges and granola. Basically, everything we asked for, we received. It was great being able to make our own breakfasts! Compared to the price of hotels, many of which are located only a block or two away from the Arctic Fox, this place is a good deal. As well, as the privacy of your room, you have access to a large outdoor deck with tables and chairs as well as a grassy area with a table and chairs and there is a common room and a laundry room. A cab to/from the airport cost us just $25. Now, as for the negatives. Anchorage has a homeless problem. Many homeless are attracted to a soup kitchen located within a block of the Arctic Fox. They did not harass us or approach us at any time, but they are there in numbers and it wasn't all that pleasant having to walk by them as often as we did. Most nights we didn't hear them either, but there were a couple of nights where they kept us awake with their shouting. This b&b is also located near the train tracks and during the day, especially if you have your windows open, the trains can be noisy. We were not bothered at night, however, because the bedroom is on the side opposite to where the tracks are located.

It's about a 20 min walk from the downtown area. We didn't mind walking around but if you want to be close to restaurants/shops this may not be the place for you. It doesn't look like much on the outside but once you're inside, it's pretty. There are no elevators so if you have bags they will help you carry them up. The common area is on the 2nd floor and so was our room. Some rooms share bathrooms. We didn't want to share so we requested a room with your own bathroom. When we checked in, Carol took good care of us, she was our host during our stay. She was a sweetheart, every morning she made breakfast and it was good. Yes, your stay comes with free breakfast. If you can't stay for breakfast just let your host know the day before and they will prepare you a bag and have it ready for you in the morning. House keeping was great! Our room was spotless! The whole place was spotless! The only complaint I have is that the walls are thin. It's an old house, I understand. We are from the east coast so we were in bed by 8pm. When other people came back from dinner we could hear them loud and clear, the walking and closing doors, etc. This was our first time at a Bed & Breakfast so we didn't know what to expect. While we enjoyed our stay we have discovered that we actually preferred hotels over B&B's. If you like B&B's and don't mind walking to the center of town or driving, then I would say give this place a try.
